Vernon, NJ (January 14, 2010) – The 3rd Rail kicked off their 3rd season at Mountain Creek Resort this past Saturday, Jan 9th. Named after NYC’s the most lethal subway rail, the 3rd Rail is the country’s illest rail jam combining elements of hip-hop, urban street culture and snowboarding.

Mountain Creek’s Park Crew spent 3 days pushing snow and building out the multi-tiered course specially designed for this event. Over 130 competitors showed up on Saturday morning to throw down in this winner-take-all event. Competitors competed in 4 open divisions: juniors, girls, skiers and best of breed, each group having a 45 minute qualifying jam to showcase their skills and make it through to finals.

The weather on Saturday was clear and cold, but it didn’t seem to matter as skiers and riders of all ages lined the fence to watch the competition unfold and take in the 3rd Rail vibe. Throughout the day DJ Pat A spun music while graffiti artists created murals featuring Slick Rick, the after party’s headliner and tagged the water tank bonk. After a heated on-snow MC Battle where local MCs competed for a chance to open for the Ruler later that night, the winners were announced. When it was all said and done here’s how it shook out:

Tara Eminson – Girls
Sean Neary - Juniors
Dhane Knakkergaard – Skiers
Tim Kempson - Best of Breed.

The four winners were awarded prize packages including boards, outerwear, accessories and a hefty sum of cash money. Word to the Third
