Yes, it's true Squaw did receive six inches of fresh over Memorial Day Weekend. Hell, I woke up to four inches on my patio at lake level in Incline Village... it was really hysterical. I had fallen asleep on my couch in a drunk stooper from the prior nights activities and woke up freezing. Wondering why the heater in the condo had kicked on during Memorial Day Weekend (I am from the righteous coast, Memorial Day is normally in the 90s and spent on the beach), I opened my blinds to see four inches on my patio and it was still snowing. I thought you have got to be sh!tting me bro... but it was true.
Anyway, I got my ass up to Squaw first thing the next morning to ride the six inches total that had fallen up top in 50 to 60 degree weather by mid-day. I shredded everywhere I could that did not allow to much hiking to get out. Did a lot of hiking to get to some secret stashes, and really enjoyed myself.
Here is a self-portrait with my Treo, that I took right before I hiked Granite Chief for the first time so I could jump off that small cornice in the background and shred the six inches of fresh below... SUPER SICK!!!
The day was a blast and was topped off with a few cold ones in front of the pool, watching all the hotness from the Bay Area lounging in their bikinis in the blazing the sun.
A few days before that storm, I was able to get out with a few of my buddies to do a late season mini-shoot. The shoot was kind of a bust due to having no real features to session and Sammy Luebke forgetting his board, but not realizing this until after he had arrived to the parking lot at Squaw... too funny!!
Either way it was a blast of a day, 65 degrees and "Simpson Clouds" in the air... enjoy the not so epic, but fun day photos:
Dave hitting the hip first... and with style.
Krizzler airing over Lake Tahoe, the kid was clearing the whole hip all day.
Dave was skying off this hip, but I could not find a good angle, so I climbed into the junkyard of old rails to hang with the herbs to try this angle.
Krizz-Dizzle was doing these whacked out, corked out, mistyflip-esque 540s... super sick, no one was touching his style that day.
Everyone was trying to do hanplants for this shot I wanted... too bad Sammy forgot his board, the kid is the King of Handplants... Dave trying his best for the camera.
Brandon, a young ripper for the M4 Am Team was sliently killing the pipe all day long and with a great attitude to boot.
:)
What a sick day and a great end to the Tahoe season. Time to Hike :) Love you Tahoe!
