(July 26, 2006) San Francisco, CA-Nikita Clothing announced today the addition of surfer Darlene Conolly to their International Pro Team. Conolly, who has been surfing since 1993 and competing pro since 2005, is the first surfer to be signed to Nikita’s pro roster.
“We always have our eyes open for talented surfers that might be right for Nikita,” says General Manager Rúnar Omarsson. “This Spring we heard about Darlene through a mutual friend who swore she was the perfect girl for us. We started talking and before we knew it things were falling into place.”
In May Conolly attended the Summer 2007 photo-shoot in Hossegor, France where she met her teammates as well as the in-house staff for Nikita Europe.
“I have always been into Nikita Clothing, but meeting everyone in France and getting to know about the company really confirmed everything for me. Nikita is an amazing company, and I couldn’t be more excited to be on board.”
Heida Birgisdottir, Nikita’s owner and designer is also pleased to welcome a surfer to the team. “Darlene fit in so well when we had her to our 2007 Summer shoot. She’s an amazing surfer; full of energy and style. After spending a week with her at our European headquarters we new she was the right fit for our pro team. We look forward to working with her for a long time.”
Conolly’s most recent surf results include first place last May in the Volcom World Championships where she was awarded with $5,000, as well as first overall in the 05/06 Volcom Surf Series in San Diego. Last fall she made a solid debut as a pro surfer on the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) when she received fourth place in the Op Newport Classic, walking away with $500 in cash. Her other sponsors include Salomon Wetsuits and Surfboards, Dakine, Soda Sunglasses and Etnies.
