need to fix my board

delam!!!

i delam my board, on the tail to metal edge is coming out. i already tried to warranty it from capita but they could not help. they said to send to a shop to fix. i dont trust the shops here in socali. i wax and tune my board myself. will i be able to fix it my self? any help will be great!!

delam

Looks like the p-tex is coming off on the bottom. top sheet delams are easy to fix but p-tex is a little more difficult. You might be able to do a patch job with some epoxy and clamps, but it's more of a temporary solution. wait 'til bumblebee sees this post, he knows what to do. What area of socal are you in? There are a few very good shops down there.

the doctor is in...

First clean the entire area inside and out, rubbing alcohol and carb cleaner work great as they evaporate at a high speed. Next pry out any dirt or material and scuff the inside the best you can, including the metal edge. This will help the epoxy grab onto the p-tex, and the top sheet. Use a 24 hour epoxy and mix well on a sheet of foil. Heat the area with a hair dryer and let the epoxy soak in and flow. There are two kinds of c clamps you can use, the first is one used within the snowboard industry and has a center screw that pushes in the metal edge. The other option is duct taping the edge in place with a good taunt wrap. At this point use as many c clamps as you need, but before putting them on use a sandvik metal scraper on both sides as you will get a much better uniformed bond. Let the board sit 48 hours, the longer you wait, the better the bond. If you ride hard or are abusive, it will come apart again.

Best of luck,

Bumblebee

I knew it

Is there anything that Jonny B doesn't know?

LOL

Yeah, trying to make a living at snowboarding, I flunked that!

Jonny B pro model

At least you have that to claim, even if Joyride never did paid up.

Thanks...

For the reminder! It sits in my room and I look a it everyday, I can remember at Hood when I just could not ride that thing in the pipe and cut it down. Next day the french fry who owned Apocalypse was at the pipe and shit a brick "you ruin board, no boards for you".

Thanks to Kurt Wastell for my only Jonny B model. He traded a kid at Breck right in the lift line - His own Solid board. Back home he hid it in my room (we were roomys) and later told me he had broke my flytying lamp. Pissed, I marched up to my room to see the damage and there was my board. All I could do was laugh and smile, even shed a tear I think.

More stories to come...

thanks

snowboarding is FUN

i fixed my board with the expoy. it worked great. i havent rode it yet but im sure it will hold up.

location

i live in la verne, about 40 miles east of la. could you recommend a shop. i brought the set up at active but i dont trust them to fix my board.

repair

Are you skeptical of your ability to carry out Jonny B's explanantion? You can do it, I have faith in you.

epoxy?

is there a certain brand, i have j b weld that works. i know i can do it, if i mess it up a new board.

Epoxy

I like Hardmann 24 cure epoxy, stay away from 5 minute epoxy as you want a slow curing agent for the strongest bond. Check out the hardware store and ask.

glue

Hardmann! Hu, huh. He said hard.

Your...

WRONG! Just kidding Pancho. Hardmann used by men like Tim Boren.......

same problem

After taking the nose of my board into a box i had the same problem, except my rail was sticking out about an inch out of the board and my base was spilt from the rest of the board. Funny thing is that i still rode and didn't notice any difference in performance. So instead of taking it to a shop to get it fixed i got my hands on some Smooth-on instant (5 minute) epoxy. Mixed some of that stuff up and used a toothpick to get it into the crack. I put more than enough in there and slowly clamped the nose back together to it's original shape. I used some scratch paper between the clamps just incase, so i didn't glue the clamp to my board. I wiped the excess epoxy and let it sit for like 30 minutes. Then again i used some more epoxy to fill in the cracks between the layers. After an hour i busted out the xacto knife and cleaned up the globs of epoxy and paper that was stuck to the board. I've ridden on it twice since i've repaired it and ran the nose again into another rail by accident and it held up nicely.
