"Brian Head is poised for a major transformation, similar to what Mammoth, Squaw Valley and South Lake Tahoe have gone through," said Michael Jabara, owner and CEO of Las Vegas, Nevada-based Brian Head Development Company. "The Brian Head area is a fabulous location that's only three hours drive time away from the fastest growing city in the country, Las Vegas. I believe that there's great interest here for a development like 'Summit at Brian Head.' The town gets more than 400 inches of the driest powder in the United States, it's heaven in the summer for mountain bikers and ATV'ers and there have been no condominium projects built in more than two decades.
"Our resort will capitalize on what we see is pent-up demand for quality resort living and we plan to lead the growth in that area," added Jabra, who is also a driving force behind a $500 million 700-unit luxury high-rise residential project in Las Vegas.
Summit at Brian Head will be a master-planned community built on 42 acres near the southern boundary of Brian Head. The overall complex at completion will consist of 420 condominiums, 34 town homes and a signature clubhouse. Pre-development financing is in place for the project.
The town's namesake ski resort is also has in place a 10-year expansion plan which calls for a golf course, another chairlift, and housing projects of its own.
The Brian Head Town Council this week approved a $3.7 million special improvement district and awarded contracts to Feller Enterprises of St. George, Utah and M-13 Construction of Springville, Utah to construct and manage the project's municipal infrastructure.
With Brian Head Development Company dedicating the required land, the town will begin roadway and utility work next week, sales will begin in early fall and the developer will commence vertical construction in spring 2007. The first units are planned to be delivered to buyers in late 2007.
"We've seen more construction activity underway or planned this summer than ever in the history of the town," said "Dutch" Deutschlander, Mayor of Brian Head. "It's clearly driven by the growth of Las Vegas and the need for their residents to get away and escape the heat in the summer or to enjoy our snow activities in the winter."
Summit at Brian Head will be central to all Brian Head's activities in all four seasons, including access to skiing and snowboarding at the nearby Brian Head Resort, direct connection to the town's ATV and snowmobile trails as well as hiking, mountain biking and other summer activities. In addition, the resort complex itself will offer numerous other family-oriented recreational activities on-site, such as two-level spas, fire pits, bocce ball, basketball and others.
