D..
My boards so far
It's always nice to go down memory lane. If my memory serves me right I have ridden the following boards:
86-87: 4 home made boards. 2 from 10 mm plywood only, and 2 made from 4 mm plywood laminated with boat fiberglass and polyester resin. Bindings were cut up ski boots.
87-88: Made our own boards called Advance. Rode two different ones. A 165 swallowtail and a 170 with a square tail. Rode in the Swedish mountains and even a week in Kitzbüel, Austria.
88-89: My first "real" snowboard. A Sims 1710 Blade with red Sims bindings.
89-91: Sims 1625 Halfpipe w pink/yellow Sims Bindings. T-bolted the second season because I wanted a bigger stance
91-92: Nidecker Airpipe 158, T-bolted w purple Sims bindings
92-93: Sims 1711 Blade, painted black and T-bolted w black Sims bindings
93-95: Morrow Multipro 175 cut down to around 167 and T-bolted w the same Sims bindings as on the previous board.
95-96: Train WMCJ 159 with Emery bindings (my first board with 4x4 inserts and bindings with rotating discs)
96-99: Gnu Sissy 164-166 with brand new Emery bindings (still own those bindings and I haven't replaced as much as a bolt).
99-02: Lib-Tech Litigator with the same Emerys as on the Sissy. Got a pair of Drake F-50 in 02.
02-03: Glissade Big Gun 175 w Drake F-50
03-04: Glissade Big Gun 168 w Drake F-50 later replaced by a pair of Flux Advance.
Since 04 I have been riding a lot of different boards and bindings since I have become the Swedish distributor of Glissade, Trilogy Arts, Compatriot and Flux. From 06 I am also the Mervin distributor so I have many choices.

Same boat with the braincells...
This took a while to compile as many of the seasons melded together, northern or southern hemisphere????, which years model in which year???? ...it was a bit difficult in the Lib JL era... I just know I went through a bunch of them.
These are the main boards that I remember, from 96 on I rode for the Australian Mervin distributor... then I started working there so that's why the list is so Lib/Gnu heavy.
1988 - Home made.
1989 - Rossignol with Bi Plane on it... effectively a very fat heavy ski.
1990 - Kemper Kid 135... got abused by some Vail locals for riding a "skateboard"
1991 - Kemper Freestyle 155
1992 - Mistral P57... funny wobble cut nose...Super fast graphite base
1993 - Lib Tech Emma Peel... Sick skull & moon graphic
1994 - ???? not sure
1995 - Division 23 147... with flaming Dice and Poker chips.
1996 - Gnu 155... can't remember name... was flesh pink with luck dragon graphic from never ending story.
1997 - Gnu Todd Schlosser Pro 154 or 5_?
1998 - Gnu Riders Choice 158
1999 - Lib JL 157 & Gnu Temple 162
2000 - Lib JL 157
2001 - Lib JL 157
2002 - Lib JL 157
2003 - Lib JL 157.... OK so i liked them alot.
2004 - Lib Dark Series 158
2005 - Lib Dark Series 158
2006 - Lib MC reissue of the 94 Surf/BMX graphic ...
as of next week I'll be riding the 2007 Forum Destroyer 154... just for a change.
Lib's Lynns
Lovely Lib Tech Jamie Lynns (154 & 157/58's) for the last 9 years here too- great ride for sure, LAROO.
Last two seasons its been the Phoenix Blue Girl.
Pretty sure my first deck was a Kemper- that board is long gone. Sad? Then there was the Gnu Barrett Christy- gone too. My Lynns are pieces of art- I'll never get rid of those.
Next.. not sure yet.

Sims Blade
The first one was the 87-88 model, red with golden stripes and wooden sidewalls. I used a lot of epoxy glue that winter to prevent moist from going into the board. It had inserts but of course only one stance option.
The second one was the 89-90 model with an uplifted tail, ABS-sidewalls and full wrap steel-edges. No inserts though. I remember talking to the guy in the shop about the stance. I wanted him to mount the bindings with a 20 inch stance. He said it was too big and persuaded me to go with a 18.5 instead. As soon as I got home I demounted the bindings and T-bolted the board. The stance? 20 inches of course!!
Boards, Boards and More Boards
I have ridden many, many board over the years... I think my collection is between 70-100 boards currently, but I stopped collecting after I went to Dennis Nazari's house.
I have ridden many different boards over the years but for the most part, find them to be more similar than different. There was the early era with long noses, the freestyle board era, the cut down, the caps and now, our modern sidewall era. Most of these boards ride pretty similar with the exception of the oldest ones.
There are a few, though that stood out for me, beyond having specific memories of powder days or learning tricks tied to them.
Here are a list of the ones I found most remarkable.
1) Flite UFO- Flite along with Gnu pioneered the central stance, modern shaped board. While the Craig Kelly is credited with bringing it to the mainstream- Steve Derrah and Mike Olson were on it first. Stevie Derrah is the true unsung innovator of the sport, intyroducing highbacks, metal edges, vertical lamination etc.
2) Storm Board - this board had the original shape of the first twin tip, the Barfoot Twintip (not actually a twin, but had a prononced kick tail). The Storm utilized a flat lam construction like the Sims and Barfoots of the day, with the major difference that Neil Daffern and his crew hand sanded each ply so it was paper thin toward the tips. The final board had something like an 1 1/2" of camber. It was crazy, but rode well. Man I wish I still had that one.
Skipping a few years...
3) The original Lib Tech Matt Cummins - this board was super light and employed a cap construction before anybody else. Great shape, great pop, fun to ride, super light: a cult classic. The cool thing was that each successive board lasted longer than the one before it (I rode for Lib for a long time). The first board lasted a month, the second two months etc. until about three years later they were indestructable.
Skipping a bunch more years...
4) Unity Dominion- I have never road a board like the Unity that can hold speed as well. You can chanrge moguls at full speed and they give. Extra comfortable(extra damp), heavy and stiff, these boards go against much of popular board design, but work better than some featherlight chatterstick if you ride fast. Plus, I have a unity board (the first one I got) that is seven years old and still rides like the day I got it.
(This season I found out that Never Summers also ride like this.)
5) Unity Schwacker- My favorite board ever. This takes the super solid unity construction and mates it to a tapered sidecut (ala Fish). The difference is that it is built much stiffer than a fish, so it can handle speeds comfortably above 40mph. It builds speed quickly, than you can let the tail go and "SCHWACK!" lay down a curb hit or slash. Super fun with a tapered shape that makes it willing to turn on a dime without being twitchy at all. Sweet on hardpack or pow. This, for my riding, is a board perfectly suited to me. (It should be, I helped design it.)
yeah yeah- But who named it ??-----SChwackk!!!!
uh huh!
Schwack
is a true Gary-ism. A word that Gary came up with to describe a slash on a snowboard- sort of like crossing swords from a WuTang song combined with a deep gouging surf cutback. Gary was also involved in the concept and execution of the Schwacker along with Unity Pete and myself. It is a cool story with some pics that we will have to repost.

Here is a picture of the entirely handmade prototype of the first Schwacker.
starting in 86
85 Burton Cruzer with the split tail, skags and shitty bindings
86 sims switchblade with crappy sims bindings that popped open on hard landings
90 or 91 Burton Air in 91
rode that until I got a
95 Santa Cruz RC 168 (perfect for tahoe)
then i went through a bunch of Libe emmagators from 98 to 2001
then burton Cnayons, rome agents, a fish or two etc
now i'm on a trice 161.5, fish 160, malolo 66, twin 57, mainly
we are not worthy!!
The honorable lists continue....
Question: How did you finally keep the "cummins" from breaking? Mine (complete with the fish scale topsheet) broke like a twig in the cold minnesota winters....
Thanks!!

pamida
cant remember the years exactly
1986-black snow. no edges. from Pamida...both bindings came off on a high speed roller.
1988-sims switchblade 140 something. bought from kingwill.
1990-sims pocket knife bought straight up fresh. then that same week pitman bought the craig kelley with the first twin style. i was so bummed. i had barely missed the revolution that year.
1991- got hooked with kemper. i was like 4'9 riding a 163.
1993- i paid $200 to get on the solid "team". 150cm jeff wastell
1994-mounted up a kurt wastell 145cm way in the back seat. basically it was a fish.
-----rode solids until the last day.
i think around '98 i got on Type A. rode all that shit , all the protos. actually this one proto that jeremy jones gave me was the best board ive ever ridden. actually maybe i just wasnt drunk that year....those boards were nothing to mention.
Then Illuminati boards.
2006/07- mcmillon 164.5 beatch!
there were a few libs. the one with the cat. they kept breaking but they kept sending new ones. it ruled.
So many boards I wish I could

My biggest regrets are that I never owned an original Joyride snowboard (the flower on the bottom ridden by Roan, Dale, Jake, TJ) or a Santa Cruz asym like Chris Roach used to rock.
Joyride!
I also wish I had had the money to buy an original Joyride. I was so into the one with the flower growing up from a toilet on the base and I was sooo close to buying the one with Nixon on the base. Unfortunately I was always poor and didn't buy a fraction of the boards I would have wanted to. I have ridden an asymetrical Santa Cruz though. A friend of mine had one and it was really the coolest board at the time and we watched "Critical Condition" all the time with Roach and Ranquet riding those boards in epic Mt Baker conditions.
this is no doubt the best thr
this is no doubt the best thread I have read in about 4 years of professional messageboarding. I'll have to think about this and get back to you. Surprised we have not seen any mentions of Morrow Spoon or Rossignol Seone or Crap, remember Crap?

liberace technologies litigator: learned to go really fast, and any time I'd hit a rock and the edge would pull out, my pops would take me over to their spot and they'd fix it for me
then an emma peel, that was THE board
and then a cummins
and then two more emma peels
burton blacktop: it was like it had twin shape and double edges or some shit
burton rippey with some native american graphic: that was a GOOD board I don't care if that dude was on weirdo jockstyles
man then I think I had two ride timelesses in a row, when they were free
oh and a ride brushie what had color changing logo in the base.
by this time, all the snowboards were the same, so I stuck for three years with a broken Option 161 something or other
gnu altered genetics offa some bmx homey
I still have that and last year I cold copped a snow mullet, which has become my daily driver I mean come on have you ridden one of those things?
I'm stoked boards are wilding out again, it actually makes me want to go buy some new ones...they used to be fully shaped differently and shit, then they just became all the same for like a decade...upside down cambers and bringing back blunt noses and swallowtails and all that, that's bomb...well, maybe not swallowtails comeon...
but yeah, my favorite of mines was one of the emma peels, it had one-off graphics that were all orange...
I'm considering breaking out the paint pens on the mullet like I'm 14 again, we'll see what happens...
