NIGHT OPS!!!
Mountain hours- thurs-mon 9-10 tues, wed-9-4

First things first- how to get here!

Lets say your in the fine state of Washington on the west side of the Cascades mountains. Find out if your are north or south of Everett.
If your north of Everett, go south on I-5 until you hit exit 194, take that, and 64 miles later your there.
If you are south of Everett, get onto I-5 going north and take exit 194 in Everett, and 64 miles later your there.

Now if your on the east side of the mountains, Find out how to get to Wenatchee, or better yet Leavenworth. Take highway 2 from both going west. 58 miles from Wenatchee, 37 from Leavenworth.

Second things second-The lodges!

So stevens is pretty unique in the fact that its such a small mountain, but for some reason they have 3 different lodges RIGHT next to each other, weird no? ill go lodge by lodge for you all. Ps. Take this all with a grain of salt, if your poor. Eat at the mountain as little as you can, bring your food. The only reason I eat there is because employees get half off, and I still think its expensive. 8 dollar burger? I think not.

Granite peaks lodge (middle lodge)

This one is the sweetest lodge of all. Nice and new, and has some decent food in it. The bottom floor doesn’t contain much besides a services desk, and the
T-bar Market!
This is the place to get some coffee, its always hot just like the babe-licious staff that’s always workin there. Definatly get a raspberry scone and a Matte latte. The mattes are some weird tea with uber caffeine. Try a matte with soy milk and chai. Best pre shred meal ever.

Upstairs- Cascadian kitchen!
This is pretty much the stock cafeteria that every mountain ever has. The tortilla pizzas and bread bowls (tomato bisque) are good.
Bulls tooth pub and eatery!!!
This one gets three exclamation points cuz its my favorite food on the mountain. You seriously cant go wrong with anything in here, including the beer selection, and totally cool bartenders. The only reason it costs more than the Cascadian kitchen is because you tip your waiter if you have a soul at all. Go here for sure.

Tye Creek lodge (west lodge)
This ones good, I spend most of my time in it because the basement is employee lockers and junk. It also contains-
Rentals
This is the only place to rent just on the mountain.
The edge!!
This is the snowboard oriented shop on the hill, totally cool. Everyone who goes in should defiantly buy a spacecraft beanie and some casual industries clothes. Have a nice chat with the staff too, theyre the coolest cats who work indoors on the hill.
The deli!
Basicly this has yummy made to order sandwiches and some nachos that will put hair on your chest. Also in the stairtower theres a little espresso stand. Tip well
Foggy goggle bar!!
Newly renovated last season, this place is very very cool. Very good double meaning for a name, very good booze.

Pacific crest lodge (east lodge)
This lodge is only good for food and a ski oriented shop. There is ice cream, super good pizza, and on weekends the outer limits grill which is tasty.

Third things third- In bounds on the hill!

I shall go lift by lift and let you know what is going on. Refer to the trail map if you get lost. Ill be sticking to the less obvious things other then just riding a groomer down and doing it again.

Skyline (high speed four pack)
Skyline is pretty much one of the two main lifts on the hill. Its accesses a lot of terrain and it can be enjoyed thoroughly by a beginner or any expert. Wave to your liftie when dismounting and if you decide to go left, theres another lift and much more waiting for you there. That is one recommendation for steeps, cliffs, chutes, and hopefully powder. But to the right off the top of the lift lies a faster way to the park then taking the park lift. Cruise down barrier ridge and see all the little chutes going down at skiers left. Those are the Winnie chutes, a fast shortcut, but also risky. Youll only make it to the park if your straightline about half of it.
Anyways, from skyline you can also reach 7th heaven lift, the whole base area, brookes, hogsback, and daisy lifts easily. Big chief with a bit of pain. Lit up at night!

7th Heaven (fixed grip double)
7th heaven is the shortest and gnarliest lift on the hill. Its only accesable from skyline and takes you up nearly to the top of cowboy mountain. On an early powder morning, this is where you would love to be first chair. Everything on this lift is double diamond too, so make sure your up for the task. Id recommend the bobby and nancy chutes as well as meadows, and the cliffs and chutes below it. Everything on this lift is super badass with pow. Win win. Not lit up at night!

Hogsback (high speed four pack)
Little lift with a lot to offer. If you like to jib little stuff on the mountain, this is where its at. Endless little secret squirrel runs and jibtastic stashes. My favorite is just going straight under the chairline on a pow day. Its not even advanced terrain but theres just so many little options and stashes so low on the mountain youll be surprised. Great small drops to spin off of, trees to bonk, even a huge tree jib, and a pillow cliff if you know where to look. If you don’t have pow, just ride the sides of the trails and in the trees right off the side of the trails. Try to find the natural boardercross run in the trees under tye mill. Lit up at night!

Tye mill (fixed grip four pack)
Awesome pow stashes on this one too. First thing, don’t try to hit the first big cliff you see under the chairline. That’s tye rock and unless theres a few feet fresh your knees will hate you, trust me on that. Heading to the backside from here is fun, Tye bowl always, just know how to get into it, theres some sketchy shit going into it from higher up the hill. Very sketchy. If theres no pow, skid road is another fun little jib run. Lit up at night!

Big chief (fixed grip double)
Sketchy lift right up, normally bumpy ride down. Hit up the chief trees far skiers right of the lift. Fun with pow. Lit up at night!

Double Diamond (fixed grip triple)
Killer pow in chief bowl. Go down the path youll see everyone else packed out and hit up the main entrance into the bowl if you don’t have a guide. If you do have a guide, why are you reading this? Theres always a couple great windlips in chief bowl. Great for soft pow landings and learning new tricks. On the other side of the lift, chairline is fun, just don’t run into the poles, they hurt. Schims and wild katz are aweeeesome in fresh pow. Good first run if everyone else has beat you down the backside. Not lit up at night!

The backside lifts

Southern cross (fixed grip triple)
ANYWHERE IS WONDERFUL WITH FRESH POW! The backside is primo shit for a pow morning, waiting a while for first chair is totally worth it. First tracks down this chairline are coveted. Makes me salivate just thinking about it. But anywhere on this lift is money with fresh snow. Without it’s a journey and a leg burner to the bottom. Don’t get stuck at the bottom of this lift after 330. either the lifties will hate you or your in for one hell of a hike. Not fun either way! Not lit up at night!

Jupiter (fixed grip quad)
Great pow lines too. Corona bowl can get hairy, go in there following tracks with caution, best with a guide. The cat track is actually fun and the powerlines are always cool no matter how many times you’ve been under its buzz. Aquarius face is money. Same with southern cross, with pow its epic, without, you might hurt a bit at the bottom. Not lit up at night!

The park!
I excluded brookes from the lift summary because the only reason anyone ever rides this low speed double is for the park. You have a great view of people bustin shit the whole way up, and its wonderful for harassing gapers who are sitting on the knuckles. Do me a favor and harass park crew if you see them hanging around the building just to the right of the lift as well.

Stevens park is pretty much the best in Washington. Our Rails are quickly coming up to the quality of snoqualmies, our jumps are by far the best built, safest and biggest in the state. And with this next coming winter our pipe will be the best in the state as well. Word is were buying a Zaugg, and that comes from everyone as high as marketing directors to park crew. So our pipe will be off the chain, as will our QP. No longer will this be considered a big air (which sadly it has been in the past)

As for our rails and boxes, they are everchanging and evolving. Youd be surprised how many little combos and variations are made out of them throughout the year. You can hit anything from a 3 foot flat bar in the kiddie park to a 50 foot down flat down concoction that is scary as hell. The selection is only getting better and this next year will hold a new wall ride (16 by 16 I think? Don’t quote me) and many many more rails and boxes. Youll be stoked.

If jumps is what you want, you wont be disappointed either. These are always moving around the park, getting bigger and smaller, being replaced by hips, single jumps turning into triple lines, who knows whats gonna be up there. The only 100% steady thing in the park is the signature waterfall jump. This beast is always huge and scares most of the people who set eyes upon it. Beginning of the year it may be only 30-40 feet but it can get up to 70-80 at the end of the season. Check it out.

All in all, just shred the park and have fun, easy style it and be smart it there, its always a bummer when somebody messes themselves up, or the feature up due to their stupidity.

Backcountry!!!

So! First off Stevens has some of the sickest backcountry around. We might be Very Very overshadowed by our neighbor to the north Mt baker, but we still got the goods. A lot more so than you would think. We differ from baker in the fact that there is an open boundaries policy. You can go out there without your avalanche gear, but its not recommended. But unlike baker, ski patrol wont yank your pass if you do that, they’ll just wish you good luck and remind you of the minimum $1000 rescue fee. Heres a short little overview of my favorite areas for hiking, easily accessed from the lifts.

Tunnel creek!
This run is what you could call potentially the easiest hike for the best payoff ive ever seen in my life. And probly ever will. Theres two ways to get here, either hiking up tai stick and coming almost all the way to the top of cowboy then heading down, or my favorite, just heading straight up from the top of 7th heaven. 10 minute hike for a 20 minute ride down. It also takes you down to the highway where you can hitchhike back to the base area. (hitchhiking is illegal here, just so you know) you can see the highway on the right side of the pic below. When you’ve got a guide, tell him to take you here. My favorite. Heres a shot just above the first nice open pow field.

C-yodelin, Wenatchee bowl
Now onto my second favorite and easiest in my opinion. To get to these, all you’ve got to do it once you get off at dudlys (the top of double diamond and southern cross) head up the hill behind the ski patrol shack. Whatever you do don’t head down the chutes on your left when hiking out the ridge. Theyre called the death chutes for a reason. Your guide will know when your to c-yodelin. If your into purely trees, this is the run for you. Top to bottom tree riding, very much fun. But if you want potential cliffs and an open bowl, head a bit further (maybe 10 more min.) and hit up Wenatchee. Both these runs take you back down to the highway as well, just remember cops hate hitchhiking snowboarders.

Rooster cone
This little son of a is quite nice. Youll find it just off the backside. Heres a little shot from the cat track. Pretty much all of this peak there is rooster cone. I havnt ridden It all too much, but hopefully your buddy whos showing it to you has.

Hollywood bowl
Anyone have a guess as to why this is called Hollywood bowl? Because this is the sickest part of stevens for photos and filming, tons of possibilities for jumps and whatnot. The powerlines are right there, theres a super great backround view on nice sunny days and its not too hard to hike to. Take Jupiter or tai mill up, Head down towards the powerlines on the cat track, right when the trail splits to the right into skid row on the front side, and to the left the backside. Head up the track right in the middle, maybe 30 min later your there on your left. Youll know your in the right place from all the kickers ready to be swept off. Heres my own little Hollywood moment. Claimin!

Moonlight bowl
Across the street from stevens, this is what your staring at when your strappin in and wishing you knew what was up with all the sick lines over there. The easiest way to get here is to go across the highway on foot. Find the little cat track that goes up through some cabins and such, then just follow that as high as you can, and keep going. Don’t mess with the cabins or anything either, those are all the higher ups at stevens. Don’t piss them off. This ones kind of obvious with the name. On a full moon you can actually ride this. Riding pow in the moonlight, break out your clear lenses and enjoy the most surreal ride of your life!

Last things last-The scene!

Pretty much I personally don’t think stevens has too much of a scene. Theres a lot of hardcore locals who pretty much live up there, ride everyday, then get drunk in the same bars at night. But other than that not much. The closest town are Leavenworth (a Bavarian village) and Monroe (besides all the Podunk towns before it, including skykomish) I would recommend staying in Leavenworth just for the pure novelty of it. It has decent bars, and all the amenities youll need including a bus system, a safeway, and hiedleburger. Skykomish is kind of depressing in my minds, but with it being 20 minutes away from the ski hill, how can you lose? Other than the towns, check out these links for some sceney type stuff.

http://www.soundstrait.com/ this is a sweet film crew that films at stevens a lot. Sweetass!
www.stevenspass.com take a guess what this is.
