Bataleon Review

Bataleon

I had the opportunity to ride a Bataleon "The Enemy" 160 yesterday courtesy of the fine folks at Pure Snowboard in Waitsfield, VT. I figured since this board is quite a bit different from the average board I would give some feedback. If you don't already know, Bataleon utilizes a triple base technology of their own design. Essentially, the tip and the tail are concave such that if the board is lying flat on the floor no metal is touching. Bataleon's website is much more eloquent in the description www.bataleon.com

Bataleon 2

The board is shorter than my usual stick and I did not have a chance to adjust the stance, as I was riding on my lunch break. That said I was very impressed with the board. It was stable at speed, plowed through the chowder nicely and floated in the limited powder. It was severely cold and I generally don't jump in the cold, however the few times I loaded the tail to ollie there was some real pop. This board utilizes both bamboo and carbon fiber stringers and it definitely shows. As a result of the contoured tip and tail, this board is a blast to butter with. I was buttering on the nose and tried to backside 270 out resulting in a backside 135 out, instead of the typical edge catch the board landed and tracked right out.

All in all, a very fun board to ride, definitely not a gimmick board.

bataleon evil twin

just got an evil twin 155 and took it out for its first spin last night at castleford indoor snow arena. as soon as id put it on i was shredding down the hill with ease, had a bit of trouble going off the kicker at first - but that could be down to the kicker being rubbish with a bow in the middle, anyway after flinging myself around a bit - i wasent quite sure if i liked the feel - it wasent the triple base tech - thats awesome its the actual feel of what it is made of - it felt very plasticy and cheap compared to my endeavor paavo - if all you want to be doing is carving down the mountain this is not the dream machine for you if youve been riding quality made wooden boards already,if you havent then you wouldnt know any better. on the other hand, after about 1+1/2 hrs i got more and more confident with the board - rails were easy - theres so much tweak and control with your feet over the board - on a rail you really can work it to your advantage, the board flexes very easily. as my confidence grew i then went back to the kicker and did a backside 180 tail grab - something ive only ever tried on a trampoline, thought i was gonna stack the landing cos i landed in a squatting position switch with my front end up like a wheelie backwards and simply rode out - I couldent believe it! next i tride buttering - again easy, so were wheelies and riding switch. All in all Id say this board is incredible - its totally designed for freestyle fun and easy to train and fogiving - and is just what i needed to take me to that next level with confidence and no fear of catching edges which is especially nice when ripping it up on a shorter board

Bataleon USA '05/'06

I can't wait until you all get to see next year's boards, the new additions to the line, the new graphics, the new team... We are poised and preparing for an onslaught of unprecedented effectiveness. The best part is that we don't have to think about it, the boards are doing all the work themselves!! Thanks to Jorgen Karlssen, the Mad Scientist, for developing the best technology ever applied to sliding sideways on snow!! Check with your local shop to see if they are going to be carrying Bataleon for next season, and if they aren't, ask them why not!! Seriously, though, if you want to try one out, call me!! 503-778-0409

Bataleon 05/06

I am considering one right now. Any reccomendations. I want a all around board for freeriding @ Jackson Hole. It needs to be a great in powder and spring mush. Handle the steeps and an excellent carver on hardpack. I was looking at the Hero but am not sure if it will be stiff enough. Do you have any details on the Core and carbon reinforcments.

.

boards have looked good since last season. i dig the sketch work on the top sheet.

nice

nice review, new technology is always fun.. didn't even notice the board egdes not touching the table in that 2nd pic til you mentioned it

.

you should try having your base done with a 1 degree bevel, especially if you do rails-less chance catching a rail.

Real good

I hear that these boards could change snowboarding.

bataleon will change snowboarding!

These boards are a revolution, and about time too! The raised edges are only from the nose and tail inwards as far as the bindings, and it works! It makes the board faster in and out of turns at speed, you can carve like a demon, and this was the aim, but the fact that you can hardly catch an edge is a side effect. And it makes it perfect for snowboarding!
I have landed so many tricks at 90 degress to the slope and not caught an edge, sick!
We are fully behind these guys in Austria , hope you guys back em up in the US!

Twin Tip?

This seems like an awsome technology, but I was wondering two things about them.
1. Are they planning on producing a twin tip board in the 05/06 line?

2.How well do these boards hold up on the realy steep stuff? Cause it seems that it may slip out more easily.

Snow Trooper GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Evil Twin...

The boards are absolutely stable, but do take some getting used to initially... There is a board called the EVIL TWIN available for the '05/'06 season, it will only come in 155 this year, but we will release a 151 and 159 in the Fall of '06. It has a true twin core profile, with a 25.2cm waist and up to a 24.5 inch stance.
