Amidst falling Fall foliage, “The Meeting” kicked off in Aspen, CO yesterday, with hundreds of people from the ski and snowboard filmmaking community in town for the weekend. The Meeting is a chance for photographers, filmers and riders to get together and check out the fresh crop of movies—as well as plan for the upcoming winter season. The NEPSA Video and Art Awards was the first evening’s big event at the Wheeler Oprah House downtown, with a welcome party held afterwards at the swanky Sky Hotel.

The NEPSA Awards invites athletes to independently create their own 8-minute film to compete for a grand prize of $3,500. The results were often funny, entertaining shorts put together by skiers and riders showcasing their action and acting (or lack thereof) on the same screen. Colin Langlois and Mitch Reed aka Grymetyme were up in the balcony to see last year’s winner Wyatt Stasinos. Mitch and company held it down, heckling every entry leading up to Wyatt’s hard before trying to cheer him onto victory.

Unfortunately for Wyatt, the noise didn’t sway all the judges, and although inside sources later revealed that he actually ended up with the highest score—local skier Ted Davenport walked away with the money with Wyatt taking third. Could the heavy skier presence in this primarily two planker-dominated town have had an affect on the judging? We’ll never know…

The Wheeler Oprah House is a cool spot to watch movies, and was packed for the award show.

Wyatt's film closed the show with GrymeTyme's strong vocal support from the balcony.

Some of the judges: Tess Weaver, Jeff Baker, Troy Michels, Dirk Collins, and Curt Morgan.

After the show, it was on to the hip Sky hotel for pool patio pimpin' and free drinks in the VIP lounge upstairs. Free Red Bull and Vodka of course, Bud and even booze. Just our kind of party.

Some of the locals.
