thanks for standing up for your beliefs and in my opinion the beliefs of the majority. i'm sure this isn't the only reason not to accept military advertising but it hits closer to home for those of us on this site. we all support the troops and are glad they made the decision to defend our country but they can only obey orders and those orders are misguided.

i am surfing this site on my phone (i know how "khul!", huh?), so i cannot get the link.
all i gotta say is there is no difference in predatorial tactics of drug pushers in highschools and military advertising in magazines that target youth.
...we cannot just walk out of iraq and afghanistan, that's what sucks. there is a civil war going on in iraq and the taliban has resumed control of most of afghanistan.
i can understand going after al queda who were/are basing their operations in afghanistan, but to go into iraq was just idiocy...but given the current 'leadership' of this country are you really surprised we used a “blow the whole place to bits until we snuff out the few thousand of them-everyone else will understand” theory? didn't think so.
and yes, i don't know a person who does not support all the kids, men and wome over there.
Following orders is doing a good job in the military. I just question the people who are coming up with the orders (and skipped out on Vietnam.) It is a shame that people like Bush reflect on the enitre world's view of our country and effect countless kids in the military and innocent people around the world.
support the troops and not the administration. or this war
i served my time as a US Marine and the most wrong thing is following bullshit orders from douche bag commanders. i am happy i'm done but i will always be a marine. and i dont want to see military ads here. no way
I'm with you all in what you have expressed in this thread. Snowboard mag, thank you for choosing not to run military ads in the mag and on this wonderful site. Military ads in snowboard magazines have always bothered me. Especially the ads on snowboard websites, they seem to be on every page you go to or they have little pop up window that won't go away unless you close them, only to pop up again when you go to the next page (very annoying). Once again, thank you.
From a european point of view it always strikes me how much advertising TWS and Snowboarder have in comparison to our mags . . . i remember when i first saw a military advert in TWS, my heart sank as nothing exemplifies selling out to me more than the appearance of this ad, and whilst i appreciate advertising pays the bills, a line has to be drawn somewhere. People often slate core companies for selling out when they become too big, or Shaun White or someone else for selling out for taking money from mountain dew etc, all of which have been debated to death on this site, however military advertsing is just too far removed from our sport, and the nature of the adverts too much of a lie as to what military life involves and means, that it just leaves a nasty taste in my mouth.
I have nothing against the miltary, and have the utmost respect for anyone who puts their life on the line for their country, but what pisses me off is the military trying to portray signing up as akin to participating in an extreme sport. In britain their have been a series of adverts recently that basically portray joining the army as participating in the ultimate extreme sport, which is about as far from the truth as you can get.
On a side note the British army actually has an annual snowboarding championship, encompasing both alpine and freestyle disciplines, and a couple of my mates who are in the army spend on average 2 months a year shredding as part of their training ! Does the american Military actually alow you to Snowboard if you sign up, or do theyforce you on to some lovely telemark skis ?
I'm stationed in Alaska w/ the army and yeah... My First Sergeant told me that if I get hurt snowboarding I'll probably end up getting punished (rank stripped, pay taken, etc...). They say you're okay to go snowboarding as long as you don't get hurt, but nothing I've done in the military has been close to an extreme sport, next to walking 20 miles with a 60lbs backpack and rifle...
Eski, you obviously have not seen our 'go army' advertisments on t.v. where they show a group of army doods getting aggro through the woods, when all of the sudden the find themselves lost. Luckily, one pulls out a g.p.s. device and guides the rest of his snowboard platoon to safe shredding. Now if that does not want to make you sign-up, I don't know what will.
There is so much to look foward to; getting shipped off to one of many foregin countries where they hate you, getting the chance to kill someone or be killed at the ripe age of 18, etc.
thank you
