Snowshoe to open this Thursday

Snowshoe, W.Va - Opening day is set for Thursday, November 23rd with 3 Lift and 6 Trails More than 65 snow guns are blowing and we hope to have six trails and three lifts open by Thanksgiving Day to celebrate and give thanks for Mother Nature and much more! We will be hitting the slopes at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, but before that, Lindsay and I want to tell you about several new and interesting things you may find intriguing and even worth sharing.
The most exciting development of our upcoming winter season is the brand new Soaring Eagle Express, a detachable quad lift. Replacing the old Widowmaker Lift, the new Soaring Eagle Express won't add to the lift total of the region's largest four-season resort, but it will allow skiers much more time for turns. Reducing the ride time from over nine minutes to less than three, the high-speed lift can move more than 2,400 skiers every hour. Most importantly, the state-of-the-art machine will open a gateway to the resort's developing South Mountain area and the possibility for ever expanding terrain.
Speaking of, the new staple of Snowshoe's South Mountain area is the immense Soaring Eagle Lodge. Featuring 140 spacious homes, in only phase I, along with retail, lounge and two restaurant facilities, Soaring Eagle will bring the resort's already top-notch lodging, dining and entertainment experience to the next level. With personalized service, unique activities and an unmatched view of the Village and basin areas, Soaring Eagle offers the complete vacation experience. The theme of Snowshoe's newest gourmet restaurant, Ember, pretty much sums it up, "eat.live.lounge."

Even with all the buzz about the resort's new developments, locals are most excited about some attractions that are "back by popular demand." The mountain's infamous Comedy Cellar will be making a comeback this year, along with the ever-popular Auntie Pastas Restaurant. All experienced resort goers know to enjoy the most complete and authentic experience you have to follow the locals…. Also, visitors should not forget about the return of the15,400 square foot interactive family fun center, The Big Top, which will be making its return this winter.
In our time of war, Snowshoe's top-notch adaptive ski program, The Challenged Athletes of West Virginia, has found a way to contribute to our nation's struggle. Striking a partnership with the Wounded Warrior Sports Project of Disabled Sports USA, the CAWV will be providing recreational opportunities for severely wounded service members from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts and the Global War on Terrorism.
