An Additional Two Feet is Possible by Wednesday Morning

Aspen/Snowmass, CO., November 28, 2006 – A powerful winter storm dumped more than 18 inches of snow on Aspen/Snowmass allowing for more terrain to open. It is still snowing heavily and a winter storm warning is in effect through Wednesday morning. Forecasters are calling for up to two feet of additional snow before the storm moves on.

“We’ve gone from not enough snow to too much snow in the blink of an eye,” joked Rich Burkley, general manager mountain operations, Aspen Skiing Company. “Seriously, this is just what we needed. With this snow and the cold temperatures behind this storm we will be able to open more terrain throughout the week.”

Snowmass and Aspen Mountain are currently open with base depths ranging from 27 to 42 inches. More than 100 inches has fallen since the end of September. Aspen Mountain Powder Tours will open on Thursday, Nov. 30, a rare November opening made possible by the abundant early season snow.

The 3rd Annual Storm the Stars, presented by Saturn, an uphill race up Aspen Mountain, will take place Saturday, December 2 at 6 p.m. This year Aspen Skiing Company has partnered with the American Transplant Foundation and the Chris Klug Foundation to add a charitable component to this popular event.

Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk are scheduled to open Saturday, Dec. 9.
