Silverton Resort Report

Wyatt Stasinos Checking Out Silverton

It was late friday night when I got the call from Mark at HQ. Silverton Mtn. Resort was having a film fest and bringing together some of the local Colorado industry to check out their latest snow conditions. Knowing Silvertons reputation for being one of the steepest and most advanced thrill hills in 'Rado I just had to say yes. Unfortunately for us Aspen locals, snow on the roads is a problem at the moment. However what was a problem for me wasnt a problem for Burton pro and big balling playboy Wyatt Stasinos. Wyatt had three old school Yamaha Phazers ready for just this scenerio. So like a scene out of Road Warrior or like bats outta hell we rallied these rickety buckets o' bolts straight to Silverton Mtns. parking lot.

Wyatt Stasinos Inside Silverton Lodge

As we shook off the trail dust and snorted out ice chunks, the face of Silverton Resort Jen Brill approached us with a big smile and hot chocolates, now thats public relations. Jen informed us that with the growing popularity of the most bad ass mountain in 'Rado, pickings are going to be a lil slim. But as avi bombing rumbeld across the valley floor we knew they must have something going on up top.

Silverton Mtn. Chairlift

Jen checked us over for the required mountain safety equipment, shovel, probe and beacon. Check. Thats right kids, the only way your getting on this mountain is if you come fully equiped. But you dont have a beacon. No worries, Silverton Mtn. Resort can out fit you in the latest and most fashionable mountain safety equipment. As we are loading a two man chair that is more comfortable riding single than double, the lifty double checks that you have your beacon on transmit once more as your swept away up 3000 verticle to the summit.

This mountain doesnt really have trail maps to hand out quite yet so locals knowledge is key here.

Wyatt Stasinos Hiking Up

You have the option of riding this overwhelming back country style resort with a guide or just going Jedi on your own. We waited around a bit for Silverton Mountain Manager Aaron Brill to show us some of the goods but unfortunatley for us he was having entirely way to much fun with dynamite about 1000 verticle above us. Screw it, Wyatt knows the way. Lead on.

Justin Bartle Nethod Stahl

The views from atop of our hike were breath taking. Justin Bartle couldnt hold back this nethod stahl after straping in and peering down a run only known as Horsecock. Thats one of the advantages of being an independently owned ski resort, you can name the runs what ever the hell you want, like Hells Gateway or Mandatory Air. Sounds inviting right?

Justin Bartle Wow!

Strap in and go time, Wyatt was the leader of the pack into our first descent on Silverton.

Wyatt Stasinos Slashin

This slash was the last of the day for Wyatt. The lifeguards warned us about the sharks and this one grabbed hold of Wyatt pretty good snapping his T6 and ending the day early for us all.

Justin Bartle Swingn

Justin and I managed to find one more feature to hit up right before we split. Funny thing is that this photo actually came out awesome and Im going to have to save it for the mags. Switch bomb drop tho, stomped and ill. All in all Silverton is an experiance not to be missed out on. Another reset button of three more feet and it will be on for the rest of the season.

Next Time You Are...

... At Silverton, you should hook up with my buddy Skylar... he is a local guide, who is a JEDI MASTER. I meet Sklyar this summer shredding Las Lenas and the Andes at SASS, where he is one of the guides and I was shooting photos.

Not only an incredible soul, hiker and amazing rider (does 720 B-Rodeos off icy 70 foot kickers), Skylar is the one of the easiest going dudes ever. Just ask for Skylar when you head back and he'll hook it up.

Oh, and Skylar if you read this - my bro Stouffer from Fuel and I are headed your way this winter for some serious shred... so get ready to show the goods, that I promise will not be photographed!!
