Whistler, BC – Whistler is experiencing the tail end of a huge snowstorm, receiving 77cm of snow in the past 24 hours, bringing the current snow base to 296cm or 117 inches. With 769cm or 303 inches of snow so far this season, Whistler Blackcomb is the snowiest major ski resorts in the world.

“With the huge amount of snow we’ve had in the last 24 hours, our crews are working hard so that skiers and riders can reap the rewards of this storm,” says Doug MacFarlane, Whistler Blackcomb’s Mountain Manager. “We are now seeing the tail end of this storm and heavy periods of snow will be replaced with more moderate winds, and even periods of sun later this week, making for prime skiing and riding conditions.”

The Environment Canada Alpine Forecast is calling for 50 to 75 cm more snow on Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain through Saturday. With the inaugural Deep Winter Photo Challenge, presented by ARC’TERYX and Whistler Blackcomb January 3 through 6, conditions for competing photographers to capture the essence of the legendary winter storm could not be better. Whistler Blackcomb started off the 06/07 season with the snowiest November on record with 416cm of snow. The previous record was in 94/95 with 272cm. December received 275cm of snow. So far this season, Whistler Blackcomb has seen 12, 15+cm days.
