Pillow Party at Mt. Baker

Although everywhere in The Great Northwest is pretty good right now, no mountain beats The Legendary Mt. Baker when it comes to deep snow. It’s been pounding at Baker for months now, and lines are filling in all over making for some nice pillow rides, chutes, drops and just plain ol’ pow slashes all over the place. SNOWBOARD Editor Jeff Baker (pictured above) and I are always down to get in a good day at Baker, and last Saturday definitely qualified as a good day. Actually, it was great.

Nate Lind Drop

We hooked up with Super-loc Nate Lind (pictured above) once again for the full mountain tour. Nate knows all the misty lines around the mountain and we spent the morning lapping chairs 6, 7 and 8 getting our fresh turns in. There was plenty of new snow to go around, and even the busy weekend couldn’t stop us from finding face shots at will.

That's what I like to see.

The weekend scramble to get Chair 6 before it's played.

There's always some good memorabilia in the lift lines.

Everybody's got love for Mt. Baker Snowboard Shop.

It was actually half way sunny sometimes! Perfect conditions.

"Twister" was rolllin' with us too. She had the extra warm Oakley one piece on.

I was testing out the Airblaster/Grenade glove. A mid-weight leather glove with insulation, the Fingerblaster is excellent for chilly (but not too cold) days with fresh powder. The extended cuff makes snow down the gloves a non-issue, and the real leather hide softens and forms to your hand nicely with wear. As long as it’s not too warm and wet outside—which sometimes happens around these parts—the glove stays dry and toasty throughout the day.

Great pattern on the palm too.

Nate was poppin' and droppin' off everything in sight.

There were some good ones those first few runs.

Here's Nate pickin' up pace through the Willows.

And the de-celeration.

I'm starting to play with the sequence mode on the new camera...it's dope.

Baker had the Stepchild Ranquet pow board out and was killin it.

A soft touchdown.

The guardian of the bar.

Classic Mt. Baker parking lot local.

Baker even snapped one of me towards the end of the day. After a brief warming cycle, deadly high winds and another good dumping this week, it’s about to get clear and cold for the upcoming weekend. With massive cold fronts bringing the freezing levels down to sea level once again, snowboarders in the Northwest are straight loving life this year. All that, and this was only day two of my mid winter road trip! Next stop…yeah that’s right…Whistler, BC.
