07/08 TTR World Snowboard Tour Takes Shape

MEN’S SIX(6) STAR CALENDAR ANNOUNCED

The TTR General Assembly in May decided to cap the premium FIVE(5) and SIX(6) STAR event tiers on the 07/08 TTR World Snowboard Tour to consolidate the considerable progress made over the course of last season. This decision ruled that a maximum of six events at the SIX(6) STAR tier and ten events at the FIVE(5) STAR tier will be accredited for the upcoming 07/08 season. This, combined with the largest number of high value event properties applying to join the Tour on all levels, has made the difficult application process careful and considered. Following lengthy deliberation, the TTR Board is pleased to announce the official Men’s 07/08 TTR World Snowboard Tour SIX(6) STAR Calendar.

The accreditation process reviewed event applications evaluating major factors such as past performance, riding infrastructure, communication, event organization, TV product, rider participation, geographical balance, media services, judging and riding formats – amongst others. Each event on the SIX(6) STAR tier also guarantees to secure a minimum of $100,000 USD in prize money, may accredit a maximum of two contest formats and contributes a maximum 1000 TTR Ranking points per result towards a rider’s TTR Championship Title aspirations.

Following a highly successful 06/07 season, all events who featured on last season’s SIX(6) STAR tier remain. They are joined by a successful application from the The Oakley Arctic Challenge, where event proprietor and TTR Tour patron, Terje
Haakonsen, set a 9.8m Quarterpipe World Record last season.

The SIX(6) STAR events that have been officially accredited on the Men’s07/08 TTR World Snowboard Tour are:

Air&Style, Munich, Germany December 1st
Nissan X-Trail Jam, Tokyo, Japan December 8th– 9th
O’Neill Evolution, Davos, Switzerland January 2nd– 7th
Burton European Open, Laax, Switzerland January 11th– 18th
The Oakley Arctic Challenge, Oslo, Norway February 18th– 23rd
Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships, Stratton, USA***March 17th– 23rd
***Note: The Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships as the Tour defining event on the Men’s TTR WorldSnowboard Tour carries a 25% points bonus on both formats for the Men’s results.

The largest culmination of independent snowboarding contests globally, TTR World Snowboard Tour will again combine results of it’s four recognized formats of Slopestyle, Halfpipe, Quarterpipe and Big Air into one ranking system, crowning a Men’s and Women’s TTR Tour Champion by season end. A rider’s rank will be determined by the average of their best 6-results posted over a 10-month season from events rated from ONE(1) through SIX(6) STAR on the global Tour.

In launching the official Men’s 07/08 SIX(6) STAR Calendar, the Tour will offer a total of 9 possible results on the SIX(6) STAR tier. This breaks down to three possible Slopestyle results, three possible Halfpipe results, two possible Quarterpipe results and one combined Big Air and Quarterpipe result, spread over three continents.

The 07/08 Tour launches at the TTR FIVE(5) STAR event, the 4th Annual Burton Abominable Snow Jam at Mt. Hood, Oregon over the 10th to 12th of July. The Men’s Tour Title race culminates in March at the Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships, where the last SIX(6) STAR event of the season carries a 25% point bonus on the Men’s results in both the Halfpipe and Slopestyle formats. With the countdown to the launch of the 07/08 TTR World Snowboard Tour well underway, the event accreditation process continues. Following the 4th Annual Burton Abominable SnowJam the TTR World Snowboard Tour will move next to the Southern Hemisphere with high profile events scheduled in August and September.
