rome is becoming just a little too corprate, i mean like rome is my favorite snowboard company and i love their mottos like corrosion of the corprate, but they them selver are becoming corprate, even dumbass girls in my school who dont know a thing about snowboarding exept how to ride one are wearing rome stuff, dose anybody else think this or am i just crzy
congrats
you've been victimized by a marketing expert
ROME snowboards are so UNDERGROUND and anti-establishment, bro. They're only out to produce good snowboards and their company really identifies with the "young hardcore shredder"
What a joke
blah blah blah
Have you ever ridden a rome? if you had of ridden one you would understand the main concept behind the company, legit product. let the marketing campaign matter to those who dont snowboard everyday. If you are actually out there everyday shredding and down for snowboarding then worry about the quality of the ride. All "core" really refers too is people who are down for snowboarding. Rome is the epitome of that, they genuinly care about those who are out there fullfilling their love for snowboarding. why do you think they put on so many events throughout the year, too shred with those around the globe who love to do the same. Ever meet anyone who works at the company? They are the last ones on the hill everyday they get the chance. Dont get me wrong they still have a job to do, but the fact is they love there jobs (despite the stress) and put in their utmost effort to make Rome what a snowboard company should be. And yes image is a part of that, but for real, those guys live it. give respect where respect is due!
(.)(.)
oh man, i hope rome's marketing department doesn't read this, it will prove their cheeseball marketing is working@!
is snowboarding really anything more than riding one?
Really what else is snowboarding? Its sliding snow......and it's ROME SDS. Thats the thing you like, the Snowboard Design Syndicate. People involved with the end result snowboarding, running a company about snowboarding. Don't read between the lines, don't make a fun, simple activity/lifestyle anything more than it is. Rep what you like, it's OK. If you don't like something becuase you see another person you don't deem cool repping it, and that makes or breaks that product to you, fine. What makes it corprate, people outside your circle backin something you are presently backing. Just seems like a weak statement with no validity. So i'm leaning on the crazy side but thats just me.
I'll say this i'm not a marketing experiment that you bought into, i'm really just a snowboarder.
"collective addiction"
Wait - you're upset that girl
Wait - you're upset that girls WHO KNOW HOW TO SNOWBOARD are wearing Rome gear?
You are a tool.
Uhh... Yea Man
Exactly. You should be stoked to see girls upping that ratio on the hill. Especially if they can link turns or just get down the damn mountain standing up. Its never been a womans world up there and you should have respect for any ladies getting up and taking a beating from the glorious hill that you respect so much. They have a rough enough time getting respect as it is trying to keep up w/the boys without ignorant comments like yours.
And one of my favorite lids is a Rome product- they've got some style. I've never ridden a Rome deck, but I do appreciate that they throw events to keep kids active 'on shred'. Kids show up and jam out (3 yr olds hit that box.. 3 yr old GIRLS by the way!) and I freaken love it that they love it. And I love the fact they are just doing it.
I'm not hear to dish out a bashing, I love the 'idea' of independent too. But understand this is a business regardless and money supports that product and the marketing to get it out there for you to enjoy it. This whole 'corporate' term gets taken way out of context too often. Its not easy or affordable to stay independent these days- props to the ones who can, and props to the kids trying to keep a good product alive.
Haha, are you serious?
Haha, are you serious?
Wow.
So they were underground and anti-establichment when you bought Rome stuff, but now that some GIRL(dumdumdum) who rides knows about them, they become "corprate". Somehow that changes how the company does business. I'm sure you bought your board before thet had done any marketing.
same old story
i think this topic was covered about a year ago with the whole robbie sell/flux issue. Rome is a great company, ran by people who generally care about and our looking out for the best interest of snowboarding. "core" does not mean it's underground and no one knows about it. "core" means they are in it for the right reasons, not just to make a quick buck cashing in on the popularity of snowboarding. Everyone is trying to make money. If that means some "dumbass girls" are going to buy a Rome Tshirt, then so be it, it doesnt take away from the fact that Rome is still a rad company and does its best to stay true to the roots of why we all started snowboarding... Its a lot like having a favorite band that nobody has ever heard of, then one day seeing someone else with that band's t-shirt on, and blasting it from their ipod... sure, you feel a bit of jealousy that it's not "your band" anymore, but at least maybe a bit of the joy and excitement that you got when you first heard them is going to be shared with others. Get off your high horse about Rome being corporate, go skateboarding, meet some girls, and have a good time...
The important question is are
The important question is are these girls hot?
yeah they are
yeah they are
OK.. Once Again... You Silly Small Testicled Boys...
I think the fact a chick is on a deck is hot period. Initially at least. But then again, thats just me. Its who they are, what they do, what they represent that makes someone HOT in my opinion. Not your physically limited visual views of things. Physical beauty doesn't last- its an internal thing, homie. When you figure that one out, you'll be alot happier in this life and luckier w/the ladies. Haters get what they give... if thats what you're lookin for.
Karma can be a bitch. Or a beautiful woman. However you want it.
Angry words makes me hot grrr
Angry words makes me hot grrrrrrr!
You Jane??
Me TARZAN!
HA. Classic. Silly boys... gotta love em. ;)
then you probably should be f
then you probably should be focused less on why theyre wearing the rome shirt, and more on why that rome shirt isnt on the floor of your bedroom.
but in a totally respectful, equal, non-sexist sort of way, cause its whats on the inside that counts
yes
yes i have ridden rome, i have a rome artifact, and its not only the fact that some dumbass girls have a rome tshirt, its that they are trying to be the opposite of burton and they are now gonna have boots, i mean i know that everyone is trying to make more money and the only way to realy do that is to become bigger, its just that i realy liked rome like three years ago when only snowboarders that realy knew about snowboarding and that acutaly were realy realy inot snowboarding, knew about rome.
If it's somewhere on the Inte
If it's somewhere on the Internet, it's probably not 'core.'
Rome Marketing
"Corrosion of the Corporate" The marketing has no logic. Drink PBR, get tattoo's, wear tight jeans or be thugged out. Hate the man. I believe their new slogan is "Propaganda and PBR". I love looking at 12-15 year old kids trying to look hardcore rocker because they look in a magazine and see that. That is why I am not buying the movie from a corporate snowboard company that is the best/worst anout acting anti-corporate. Please stop pulling that card. Your probabally all 30+ years old still paying rent somewhere still angry with the "man". Snowboarding is a corp. game now a days. The only core company's died off in the 70's and 80's, the only true core company in the game left is Burton. Because they had no idea what sort of market, profitability, and interest there would be. Rome is nothing of the sort. Sucka's.
Yea...
"The Marketing has no logic" So that means that Josh and Paul, both two ex-Burton employees (marketing and product design) who felt Burton was going too corporate when they noticed Burton was taking over from a buisness standad-point rather than pushing for innovative products? I'm sure you already knew that. If you don't understand "Corrosion of the Corporate", then don't make some uneducated comment about Rome.
Bro
I did know that rome is backed by ex-burton guys. But you cannot tell me that Rome has a better product than Burton. Hands down Burton has pushed the industry to where it is, you like the base on your snowboard? Thank Burton. No matter how corporate you think burton is, rome is in the same game. Making money. Only difference is rome markets all sterotypes involved with a "core" snowboarder. Snowboarders drink PBR, wear tight jeans, sleep on floors, hate corporations. They bend over and take it from the man, like everybody else. nuff' said
Like it or not, it's logical
Like it or not, it's logical marketing by Rome. Burton already has the mainstream market cornered. Newbies, celebrities, rich people, all demand Burton when take up snowboarding. What's left of the pie, Rome has taken a good stab at it, the kids who think they are hardcore snowboarders, those who just want something thats quality and not Burton, etc. Of course everything is superficial, but its working because Rome is the fastest growing company in snowboarding. It's given them brand identity which is really important. You don't grow and survive in this industry with just a love for snowboarding. It takes brains and knowing what needs to be done.
(.)(.)
I am surprised Rome has succeeded despite their IDIOTIC and HYPOCRITICAL marketing, they are trying to grow into a big giant snowboard company, or at least they should be because thats what a successful company does, and good companies do it in a good way and sh!t companies fall by the wayside
the antiestablishment marketing angle is tired as fxck, the only company with interesting marketing is Libtech, they have mastered being tongue in cheek and serious at the same time
if were talking hypocritcal campains how about un-inc?
i believe there was an interview with jp solberg that went something like this "yeah its totally separate from burton, un-incorporated. they lets us do what ever we want for shapes and flex and give us as much money as we need for artists and graphics"
not a direct quote but im sure its out there somewhere on the net still and itll be something like that.
who gives a floosie?
seriously, i used to hate on every single person out there on the hill, and i ended up just coming to terms that everyone should just sit back and do their own thing. ALL the snowboard companies are out there to make money. private enterprise? rome just has an anti-establishment marketing campaign to lure in rebellious teenagers and people who live in a shack and drink all day. sure, these are stereotypes and shit like that, but there really are few companies out there that are small enough to be 'core'. companies that nobody has heard about, to get their shit you have to call them up and ask em to stop by, that kind of stuff. corporate is snowboarding, and snowboarding is corporate. even burton (as some may say they are the only core one left) then why do they consistently outsell any other brand and distribute to big box stores across the nation? you call that core?
and who cares about some gaper wearing a damn grenade or rome shirt and they don't even know what it means. snowboarding is about fun, not image. just my 2 cents.
✠™Core is overated
Its just a phrase used by big companies to sell stuff to 14 year old kids who rock a wallet with 4 chains, a xxxl 2-Pac tall T and their sisters skinny black levis.
All companies are corporate, its kinda unavoidable if you want to go into buisness - whats important is the people behind those companies and Rome is a great example of what a snowboard company should be.
dude, people have worn skinny
dude, people have worn skinny black jeans since rock musics conception. just as people involved with hip hop have worn baggy clothes since hip-hops conception. im comfortable in tight jeans so i choose to where them. that dosent mean ive fallen victim to a marketing campain. let people wear what they fill best represents them as an individual and the culture/music scene their apart of.
✠™
The fact that you have no discernable manhood and thus fit comfortably into your sisters skinny jeans is of no interest to me or anyone else round here . . i was not having a go at anyones style, hell i wore 5 key chains at 14, but your reaction clearly says that you have concerns about people not taking the steez you chose to rock seriously, in fact i detect a touch of insecurity . . ohh and people havent been wearing skinny black jeans since the beginning of rock, unless you count My Chemical Romance as the genisis point, its all about the leather dude, all about the leather . . .
um, no dude. look at the ston
um, no dude. look at the stones, look at the pistols. last time i checked they were older than my chemical romance. look at the styles in the 60s and 70s not just what rock stars were wearing. yes, i am very slender; skinny jeans fit me best. most people arnt stupid enough to make fun of me for the clothes i wear, just as would never critizize people for the clothes they wear. how old are you? when i was 14 i would probly of made fun of other peoples cothes too.
✠™ I am Rock and Roll kid
Are you seriously trying to have a conversation on snowboard-mag about the impact of denim on British rock through the ages ? . . . time for you to go back to My Space
are you trying to hold a conv
are you trying to hold a conversation about how my chemical romance started the 40 year old tight jean trend? music and art infuences snowboarding. so yes it has buissness being on this site. look at the clothes riders wear. listend to the music in videos. read the album reviews in the back of snowboard rags. and your the one who said my chem started the whole trend, i was just correcting you.
✠™ Sarcasm
Wow you are angry youth A4L - go buy some Volcom and sit on a street corner - you should excuse my humor as i am a 30 year old chap from london who has never seen a mountain, a pair of tight jeans or even heard any Rock music.
its cool. sarcasm is good.
its cool. sarcasm is good.
Runke made it corporate....
I think as soon as they hired Runke and gave that ass bag paddock a job they became as corporate as Salomon and Quik.... thats my 2 cents... Whammy
Man you're a dick
What's your new cell anyway? PM me bitch.
Fight for the little guy - Read SNOWBOARD Magazine!
hahaha... Yeah Pancho
I will send you a mail right now
Zoiks !
Zoiks again !
you should stop and smell the roses
rome and grenade are the roses of snowboarding
rider owned and rider influenced
they just have their shit together and work their asses off
what you are seeing is the result of hard work, blood sweat and tears
listen to cat power
i could do without paddock, over paid if you ask me
xo pinski
Let it go
If you like Rome as much as you say, let it go. Yeh, I know half the girls, (and Guys), out there don't have a clue what the company is or what it's about, they just know that it's cool, but... they are buying the product and supporting the company. That's what keeps the new stuff coming out. It only becomes corporate, when they let new people in and have to do serious advertising. At this point take the free advertising from the wing backs that don't have a clue. So I guess they are not so dumbass after all. (just followers, which is fine for the business) Your on the right track with your opinions though. Does make you wanna :barf:, when you see it, but now just smile!
poser....
