i'm a fan of danny kass but first oakley, then nike, now a bud commercial. does it seem to anyone else like he's selling out? maybe oakley's been with snowboarding for a while but he's riding for a basketball shoe company run by people who dont know what a snowboard is.
You and I and everyone else here would do the exact same thing in his position.I have a feeling that Nike threw a considerable amount of money at him being a two time medalist in the olympics.Wearing Nikes doesn't make him any less of a ripper.the dude shreds hard on everything.I'm with ljj on the pbr thing though.
Nike is one of the hottest things out right now. SB's are so hot they hurt to wear. I agree, I wouldn't ever put a swoosh sticker on anything I own, but the kicks are tight.
I'm kinda getting tired of seeing those Nike's around on every hipsters feet. There are cooler shoes around. Plenty. I'm suprised they're as popular as they are in a sport like skateboarding. Whatever, same conversation were having here I guess. Yea that will be very weird to see swooshes on peoples snowboards.
i would have totally cashed-in, we all would have in here, if budweiser came to any of us and said, 'yes, we are going to offer you a shit-load of d'argent for a lame hod dog-ish t.v. add....'
yeah, the advert is kind of silly, so what (most likely he had no say in how it was going to be) and oneof our own was able to make mad bank from, god dare i say it, 'duh man'.
bottom line is, kass fucking rips shit from cement, to b.c. booters to dude tubes round the world.
my only wish is that he did a commercial for anchor steam (or even p.b.r.) and that he would ride for a company like bluebird.
You guys probably already know where I stand on this. Here is my question had Danny been riding for Oakley, Budweiser, Nike, and Quiksilver prior to starting Grenade, would Grenade be as successful? There were quite a few small glove companies trying to get going at that time, Celtek, Defcon, and a few others. My point is that DK built not only an image but also a company based on an anti-establishment, anti- corporate appeal. I know many people that supported Grenade because it wasn't Nike, K2, Burton, Oakley, etc.
To me it kind of sad to see one of the sport's true individuals go to the highest bidder regardless of the company. I don't personally fault him, I don't know if I could turn down the numbers he is seeing. I just don't think it is in any way good for snowboarding when deep pocketed companies with no history in the sport start buying up the sport's best and brightest.
And if you are going to roll with the cheap brews, it has to be Miller High Life - The Champagne of Beers. I would sell my soul to Milwaukee two times over for those clear bottled beauties.
I know, I know, very true, Wrangler, North Face, Vans, the mighty VF. Of course Vans total team budget is in the neighborhood of what Nike pays one rider. I know this can be argued every which way, but you have to admit that DK has significantly changed the style of his sponsors. Like I said I don't personally fault him, get the money while you can, snowboarding careers can be very short, I just personally don't like it for snowboarding as a whole.
i'm a bit confused on his moves lately. don't know what to think of them. regardless, Danny is a solid rider and kills it everywhere. much respect. Tawnya20 should interview him. that way it all out in the open.
That shit is halarious... and as for selling out... are you kidding me... if I could ride for any out of industry sponsor it would be Nike and Budweiser... Nike is tite, you should see all the kicks and shit he's got now... and i'm sure he can get anything from golf clubs to Tennis rackets from them... how many of you would turn down the opportunity to work for the number one name in sports equipment and apparel... And as for budweiser... that is the first person that is being true to his game... drink is what snowboarders AND skiers do during the winter,,, and summer but the beer keeps us motivated and warm... and who wouldnt turn down money to drink beer... come on... that is most of our dreams at one point or another, let alone being able to snowboard for a living... but now he gets to drink for a living... Big ups to Danbo for that one,... now he just needs to get fully sponsored by a seed bank or HighTimes or something... then we'll have a full sponsor list for the 4/20 games hahahaha... tite shit
Fact is surfsking is a professional sport these days whether you like it or not, and just as the top football, baseball et etc pros sell them selves to the highest bidder, so must the top pros if they dont want to end up back flippin burgers after the hype dies down. I dont like it , but thats they way it is, and no one more than DK exemplifies the shift in the sport, for the one time posterboy of all thing core is now playing the game, and fact is if it was me i would be doing the same. I do think its a bit of a smack in the face though to all the kids who supported Grenade because they were "by core boarders 4 boarders" but like ive said before core is just a marketing term that suckers kids into dropping dollars on gold plaited forum keychains and they like.
What i cant understand is he can grab all the dollars he wants - but no amount of money would persuade me to rock the steeze he has in that advert, gaper represent.
1. this commercial is old and I think it was already posted here? fuck it, this discussion is good.
2. Homeboy can shred, but not act. His show coming up is going to be painful to watch.
3. maybe his maturity is his progression? Yes he did come in as a rebel punk from jersey, but everyone changes. Maybe now he realizes he could very well be a huge face in snowboarding. Sure he is enormous as far as us snow-heads are concernced, but he has two olympic medals and regular america only knows the dude with the red hair. Personally I see nothing wrong with his move. But I'm sure many of you want the bad-ass-kass back, and I totally see where you are coming from ... (sorry.)
i dunno what to think. i like mr. danny kass, he's really nice.
nike can give all the money in the world to everybody twice, and then maybe three times, probably not four though. they save a lot of money by working those little kids in china.
anywaaaaays, rapper's argue about this kinda stuff.
i love hip hop. so that's kinda cool.
swooooooooooooooooosh!
k so Nike SB's are sick and limited and all that shit. so they're nice. but that zumie's 6.0 shit's the problem.
I'm neutral on Nike.
they seem to want to stay limited, they're only gonna be sold in 40 shops across the U.S. the first yeart. i will continue to be neutral until they come out with a 6.0 version snowboard boot. then i will be so disappointed.
but danny kass doesn't belong on Nike. period. give them shaun. and then some more burton kiddies.
which raises one more question...
what's our friend Burton gonna do in 2nd place?
they are no longer the leading company.

How can hip-hop be dead if Wu-Tang is forever?

Just to put things in perspective
Vans is just as corporate as Nike will ever be. VF Corp...it's even in the name.

I once thought that the guys who ride around at a resort with a huge cumbersome backpack, or just a backpack in general were the hugest doofuses ever.
Come to find out, that's just how they carry their day's ration of refreshing barley sodas! What a fool i have been.
Wearing dorky backpacks inbounds, the hottest mountain trend for 08.
