Isn't this kind of unethical?

I know for a fact that mtn high is starving for photos but will not pay for any (there are plenty of good shots taken at high). They are now holding a photo contest to try and get free photos. The winner only gets a pass valued at 160 bucks. Of course if you enter it becomes property of them. Shouldn't huge companies such as these be paying photogs for their photos to support them? That's like snowboard mag holding a contest every month to get content for their mag so they didn't have to pay the pros. I was curious as to other people's thoughts on issues like these. I know this happens everywhere.

hm

yeah, that is kinda cheapskate-ish.

yeah it is

yeah i think it is. but im sure you are goingto submit a few photos. i hear mt high use people fotos without giving them credit. so whats new for a 2nd rate mountain.

I'm not submitting anything t

I'm not submitting anything thank you very much! I actually know a guy that got his photos used w/o credit by those guys. LAME.

screw that.

cheapskate mountain!

Easy there, guys.

I've seen plenty of photo credits on photos that Mt. High uses.
As for your lack of interest in the prize, have you ever entered and won a snowboard contest, just to walk away with a T-shirt and a few stickers? It happens, and life goes on. Not every contest is the US Open. Don't like it, don't submit. It's that easy. I think that the contest is a good idea, but some people don't recognize that getting their name out there for winning a contest where many photographers will be submitting photos is worth more than the $160 pass. That, and practice shooting photos makes perfect, right?

Honestly, I really don't appr

Honestly, I really don't appreciate or understand these kinds of "contests". Major photo stock houses have tried this kind of thing for years to try and aviod paying the photographers. Most resorts don't pay all that well to begin with considering the amount of money they spend on ads. Getting exposure is great and all, but the last time I checked a photo cedit never paid anyone's bills.

If your photos are good enough to use for advertising then they're good enough to pay for.

I totally agree with ya Tim.

I totally agree with ya Tim. Well said.

Lame Mtn. High

Ad photos should have photo creds and paid for. If you've had that problem, make sure you get the name of someone in accounting and make sure you send that person a bill. that helps a lot, don't depend on the marketing bro that did the ad to care whether you get your money or not. speaking from personal experience here too. Submit an invoice stating that the picture was a one time use for an ad. Web is different. don't expect money from a web photo in the action sports industry.

However.

If you don't like the rules, don't play the game.

yeah

snowboarding is FUN

there are lots of photographers that arre talented and take great shots. sometimes they need credit. but mountain should offer more that a pass to a crowded mountain. how about a job shotting for the mt. that thats a prize worth winning!!
