Beef with Holden

I have a problem with Holden charging more for their Eco line. Why is this, and what dose the company hope to accomplish with charging more money for their eco friendly outerwear? It seems if they were realy concerned with the enviroment and climate change, they would find a way to keep their prices down.

What???

I'm going to leave evrything else alone. But would you please explain "It seems if they were realy concerned with the enviroment and climate change, they would find a way to keep their prices down."?

I'm trying to see anything connecting those two. Can you explain how low prices help the environment and aparrently the climate in particular?

that test makes me feel good bout myself!

i know this might be out of the blue but...

if you want a cheaper product, isnt planet earth real similar to holden? i know they are both ran by the same company or so i believe, and planet earths prices arent too bad, not as high as holden in my opinion.

Me too....

Scored a 100!

That's pretty funny FC.

I don't know why they would c

I don't know why they would charge more, from what I hear there made in china. I bought some of there camo pants a couple years ago and they looked sick but after 2day and spending $200 they were pretty much rip and torn to shit. I mean common this stuff is supposed to be designed for snowboarding right? Anyway I'm not buying anything from them again.

Torn to Shit?

My ass, i bought a pair of Holden Berlin Pants(walnut) last season and i've fell on rails so much, i even accidentally spilled ice tea all overt them ,which it just wicked away without a trace it was ever there. I don't know what your buying but it doesn't sound like holden, My jacket is the same, it holds up to anything i throw at it and looks brand new still. Holden making the most durable products i've ever seen from a snowboard outerwear brand.
Furthermore, about the ecoline costing more...it costs more to produce so it makes sense they would charge more or else they would lose money..and lets be serious, you need to be able to make money to keep a business afloat.

Please complete this test before posting any further comments on the message board. Thank you.

Ohh my bad Home slice! Sorry

Ohh my bad Home slice! Sorry my grammmmer so shitty. Thats what I get for growing up speaking 3 different languages and English as a 2ed language. And from my personal experience with Holden is THERE stuff sucks. But if it works for you then all the more power to you bro.

i just got a 100, sick.

me too.I feel accomplished.

me too.I feel accomplished.

business 101

materials cost more= higher production cost= higher cost to consumer.

Ever wonder why buying organic food is so much more expensive than everything else.same principle.

charging more for enviromenta

charging more for enviromentaly friendly product essentially does nothing. by doing this and charging more for organic food, enbles only the wealthy to participate in consumer activism. nobody is going to pay $75 dollors more for the same product. mayby the guys behind holden will learn to take pay cuts for the benifit of mankid. i heard mickey say in an interview he was a consumer activist, haha.

Provide some facts to back your opinions. Everything I have heard and read is that demand has outstripped supply for organic / ecofriendly threads. I know for a fact that this has happened in other eco happy industries. Since I make a career of buying all sorts of electrical/power crap, I can tell you that every renewable product, be it wind, PV, or cow crap has skyrocketed in cost in the last year. The following quote is from last year but I believe retains relevance to the discussion.

From Newsweek

"So the challenge isn't the demand—it's the supply. Organic-cotton production in the U.S. increased by 8%—and was up 7% in China, 25% in India, and 40% in Turkey—between 2004 and 2005, according to an April, 2006, Organic Exchange report that lists the top four producers. But demand for organic-cotton fibers by clothing makers increased 93% in the same period. As a result, the growing number of retailers wanting to offer eco-friendly clothing is facing a crunch."

you are living in a fairytale.

That sounds like a really nice idea. However, the point of a business is to make a profit.this really isn't difficult to understand. It's called supply and demand. Before you go throwing around phrases like "consumer activism", you should learn the basics so you don't sound like an idiot everytime you put your fingers to the keyboard.

if its just a buissness than

if its just a buissness than why worry about making eco friendly products? why dont you tell lablanc to stop throwing the word "consumer activist" around? hes the one that claimed it. ive heard him say, "it dosent matter how cool your set up looks if we dont have any snow to shred on." lifes about money, nothing else matters, right?

LIfe is a race...

Everyday is a competition, Time is money!!
I understand what you're saying, and it absolutely sucks that only the more wealthy are able to participate. But it is a supply and demand issue. That newsweek blurb above says it well. Were also in the beginning stages of eco-friendly products. Hopefully they will develope better production methods in the future enabling us poor people to be consumer activists too. I think the guys at Holden have the right idea, but economics says that the price will be high! Maybe its not Holden but the raw material producers (of eco-friendly materials) that should take the price cut. At least somebody is doing something, instead of driving around in fancy inefficient cars that improve their social status. eph that!

maybe im getting two different issues confused, cause im a snowboarder and not an economist or an active consumer, though i try, but i think its ironic that againstme will complain about manufacturing in china, and then turn around and complain about high prices. if these pieces were made in the states, i guarantee they would cost a lot more than they already do. since the issue is so important to you, pay the extra money for your outerwear (and maybe buy a snowboard that is a season or two older), so that more companies will start using the fabrics, then more other companies will start making the fabrics, and the prices will eventually drop. if not, shut up, cause a) no one here really wants to hear your opinion, even though you have one on EVERYTHING and the "right" to share it and b) youre not as active as you say

and i could be wrong about this too, but isnt holden owned by k2? cause then you shouldnt even care since theyre owned by a ski company

and i also think its funny that he spends sooo much time worrying about fashion-related issues

i spend to much time worrying

i spend to much time worrying about fashion related issues? mayby your to stupid to understand this issue is more important than just a fashion issue. and if nobody cares about my opinion than why have 20 people responded to my post? everything is run my corporations, the computer your on is made by a corporation. what we have to do is force them to adopt ethical human and enviromental rights standards.

cause i know when i have 20 people telling me how much of an idiot i am, it really makes me feel war, cozy, and like people care about me. and in the original post you mentioned nothing of human rights, it was all about the high prices.

and i know its kinda kicking a dead horse, and has nothing to do with this argument, but dont call me stupid when you cant spell for shit. hows that old proverb go? "it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt"

dude, look at all your miss s

dude, look at all your miss spelled words from the last two posts. i called you a dumbass because you basicly called me a dumbass. what the fuck dose this mean? " blah, blah, blah, it realy makes me feel war, cozy, and like people care about me." i have no problem with corporations that have put in place etheical standards, and have made human and enviromental rights a top priority. so im not going to hate on something just because its corporate.

sorry, my bad. i meant "warm, cozy, and..." everything else makes sense to me. but i dont see any other glaring errors in my posts other than that one, but i guess they could be there.

and i cant tell if you really didnt understand the rest of it, but it was in reference to your statement of 20 people responding to your post. i was pointing out how 20 people did respond, but the vast majority of them were calling you stupid.
