Board Setup Help.

Well, I just got my new board. Its a Burton Custon wide 162.

My prior board was a 157, and I feel so weird having a huge board, but Im a big kid and I ride everything.

Im about 6'2" 190-200 lbs and my show size is 13, hence the reason for the wide board.

I ride mostly everthing. Some boxes and park jumps here and there, and just go all over the resorts (Park City, Brighton).

I am really wanting to get into some more backcountry and powder riding, so I guess a big board isnt so bad.

Well, back to the topic.

About what width should my stance be?

I have all the angles for my bindings figured, but I cant decide on how I want my width set up. I know a wider stance is best for jibbing and park, but I only spend like 20-30% of my time doing park.

I measured a comfortable stance earlier this week and it was 18" from disk to disk. But that seemed too small. I am going to mess around with it more, I just thought I would ask for some input. Is that ok for my type of riding? Is that how I should measure it?

Thanks for any and all input.

my thoughts...

hey im 6'1 190lbs. with a size 12 boot. i ride a Indie burton 164. it looks like were close to the same size, i found that a wide stace you have better controll on exacuting turns with long boards, but lack comfort, I personally found that when riding everthing all day and night, a med. wide stance suited me the best. by the way trees can hurt if not kill you, make sure you have the up most controll when riding the trees and back country. if you lack confidance, wear a helmet... PEACE! hyer

go ride your new set-up with your old set-up stance...bring a pocket driver with you and adjust it when needed.

end of story.

A wider stance since you are a bigger guy with some duck would probably be good for what you ride. just a thought.
