skate banana vs. gnu riders choice mtx

I am looking for a new board for the season and i am stuck between these two. I am 5"7' and weigh 120 lbs and was looking at buying either the SB 152 or the RD mtx 151.5. I am looking for an all around board that can also hit up the park and ride well in powder. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

skate banana

Thanks for all the help. I just ordered a banana from my local shop, i'm stoked!

RADD

Enjoy!

I've ridden both boards (non-

I've ridden both boards (non-MTX Riders Choice though), and both are all-mountain freestyle slayers. However, if you're thinking of hitting up the park or dig jibs, get the Banana. The Riders Choice is actually pretty stiff for hitting jibs and rails, but the Banana is great for them, yet still has that all-mountain versatility you're after.

In short, if you don't set foot in the park and like a stiffer stick, get the Riders Choice. If you occasionally get your jib on and aren't limiting yourself to stiffer decks, get the Banana.

08 riders choice or lib tech trs banana series???

wich is the beter board all around the gnu riders choice with the banan tech or the libtech trs with the bananna tech???....i need help because im gettin one of those boards and need to find out wich one is the beter board.....and is the riders choice alone without banana beter that the lib tech trs banana series

Ditto that, anyone out there to comment on SB vs. RDmtx?

My son is 6' and 125 lbs, size 11 looking for a half park half all mountain, that can get through occaisional pow if necessary. Learning towards 157.5 Riders Choice mtx or 156 SB. We will be getting him a separate board, the Malolo for strictly pow days. He is attracted to the Banana Tech and MTX but hasn't ridden either nor have I. Recommendations and Comments appreciated, oh he has 5 years experience about 15 days a year, has outgrown his 152 Custom X and wants to ride some park and some all mountain, and wants more flexi board than the stiff Custom X. Rome Slash?

Wow. You must hate

Wow. You must hate your own son if he only weighs 125lbs and yet you're thinking of putting him on a 156 or 157cm board. Height is nearly negligible compared to weight. Yeah, he's got some 11's, so he might need a midwide (depending on his stance), but with his body weight and leaning toward freestyle, get the shortest midwide you can find, like a 152 Skate Banana. That'll still be a bit long for his weight and the type of riding he wants to do, but hopefully he eats more and grows into it.

He'd rather drink Rockstars and play WOW than eat!

Thanks for your comments, looks like the 152 would be the best choice this year for him, I had the same goofy growth pattern as he does, I was 6'1" and 130 senior year in high school and put on 60 good pounds over the next 3 years. So his 11 will go to 12 and he will be starting to put on the pounds after next year. But for now he has 11's, and by January he might be 130 to 135 if we start force feeding him. What are the recommended weight ranges for the 152 vs the 156?

I checked Lib's 07/08 catalog

I checked Lib's 07/08 catalog only to find that they didn't include weight ranges. You can get away with riding the Banana a little shorter than your average stick though, even if he puts on some good weight over the next two or three years, he should still be good. (And by that time, it might be time to get a new stick anyhow.) Lib's new customer service center in UT is pretty good at prompt replies and information, so you could give them a call for those weight ranges.

6 foot 125.Jesus Christ.Start with some hamburgers and doughnuts and fatten that kid up.Now on to the serious stuff.I've ridden both of these boards a few times and I really like both of them.I'd say get him the banana. The board is the most playful thing I've ever strapped my feet in.It seriously can do it all,it's not hype.I ride the TRice 157 normally and have a banana now as well.MTX is a must as far as I'm concerned.Either way you go I don't think you'll disappoint him.I've never really ridden anything from Mervin I didn't like.

Seems unaminous on the Skate Banana - 152

Thanks for your comments, looking like the slopes will be very yellow this year! 2008 is the year of the Banana! Nice job Lib Tech, cutting into the Burton Pie! Even though my son is 6 feet tall, you are still recommend going with the 152 right? and not the 156?

...

Definately a 152 if he only weighs 125.The waist on the 152 is 25.2 which will be just fine for his size 11 boot.I ride the 156 but I'm 5'11 180lbs.

Word. I demoed the 156 this

Word. I demoed the 156 this April when I was 185lbs and it was dreamy. Yup, dreamy. I picked up the 156 and will be happy with it, but I kind of wish they had a 154 as I'm now 168lbs and still dropping.

Can I Quote You On That?

Thanks. Smiling

"I've never really ridden anything from Mervin I didn't like."

That is word.

Mervin boards are the HOLY GRAIL of snowboarding!

I'm not just saying that because they are my personal favorite. I'm saying it because they really care about the rider and their experience, not just about the bottom line. And they hire snowboarders in America to make snowboards....novel concept, eh?
