im fucking up snowboarding by wanting corporations out of the industry? i think the commercialization of snowboarding is driving people out. remmember a few mounths ago people were applauding chad for riding for small board companys and for not being corporate. now people are bashing kids who are calling him a sellout.

and i know rossi has roots, but, at the end of the day, its still a ski company. the only experience ive really had with rossi is the old skiers at my home mountain flashing their bulges in spandex, which will put a sour taste in anyones mouth, and the rental boards we have.

As a eurosteezer i can tell you that Rossi have been into snowboarding since day 1 and have been making boards since before the likes of Against me was born, both under their own brand and sub brands - for Burton in the US think Rossi/Quik in Europe in terms of support they give the sport - sure they dont have a Bro down image, but they know how to make a shredstick, even more so now that they have access to Mervins experimentalism . . how many companies do you know that would give Jeremy Jones the amount of support to hit up Alaska like he does given the relatively small media exposure that side of the sport gets?

Sure they are now part of a corporation - but that corp is Quiksilver, probably the original boardsport company, who plow millions into standing sideways on snow, surf, and sidewalk and have kept shit going when dark times have fallen . .

Save your wrath for the likes of K2 and the Payless Shoe co . . . or better still just shut the fuck up, go shred and like bluebird said let this played out jock sport play itself out . . .

I agree with you eski mutha. Quik in general has been board driven from the getgo and has a smookin combined team of thuuper talented riders and some fine masterpieces under its belt now (a belt with some well earned notches in it!)

Congrats to the boys- they are both talented and they more than earned it for getting out there on the hill and sharing their steeze. Snowboarders are just trying to ride and make a sandwich (from just one broke-ass snowboarder to the next). If you have an opportunity to do as much of both as possible, you're golden. True grassroots sprout up with a little love, but money helps too- so why not get it while you can and move toward what you would 'want to see' in the wild world that is snowboard. As long as you keep your vision true, I say hustle on!

dude, how long has chad been riding for small board companys? im sure he didnt wake up one day and was like, "im hungry, i better sign to a huge corporation so i can afford to eat." he did just fine on academy, if he couldnt pay his bills he wouldnt have been riding for them for so long. if you rode for rome, sessions, airblaster, celcius, union, celtek etc. you'd be able to live comfortably. you dont have to ride for a mega corporation ski brand to support yourself.

Those smaller companies do not pay well.
And academy was not paying well.

ok chad otterstrom has been shredding for a long time, he was on M3 for years and he was getting paid good cause the company had a large budget to work with and then he was on forum and that was only for a year, after that he had no board, boot, binding or outerwear sponsor, then he went to academy and bonfire i dont know how much he was getting paid on academy but he definately wasnt getting close to what he was getting on M3 and forum(so i guess). but i know that academy wasnt the one that paid for his defective part nor his mackdawg part(which is not cheap), and after those vids i havent seen footage of him since (probably cause canadian distribution companies didnt sell whatever video he was in). also why do you think he wants to start his own brand? not many people want to do that cause you'll probably have a bigger chance of losing money then gaining it and who wants the headache? he probably did his best to help keep academy going but he has to make money somewhere and with less exposure im sure his bigger sponsors would be offering less on future contracts. im not against getting paid, but i dont think riding for a ski company is the way to go. you can make money riding for smaller companys, companys that actually care about snowboarding.
