Words/Photos: Matty Vanatta If you tell anyone in North America that you live in or are going to visit Seattle, Washington it will most likely evoke stories of endless rain and the sweet sweet sounds of grunge rock circa 1994. If you happened to be in Seattle on October 27th for Snowboy Productions Downtown Throwdown you were treated to a weekend of beautiful crisp fall weather. I don’t know who at Snowboy has a direct number for the Sun Gods, but they put in the call, slapped him with a twenty spot and produced some of the best weather us Seattle locs had been treated to in the last month. Now I’m not saying Krush Kulesza and his faithful crew where directly responsible for the forecast, but they were directly responsible for throwing the first class snowboard event that transpired. The setup was oh so sweet and consisted of a thirty foot double barrel down rail, and a down flat down rail that fed into a double wall ride.
The snow was perfect and the temperature that night was just right as to not melt all the snow or turn it into ice cube death chunks. The rider list was a who’s who of the jib scenes elite and included the likes of Zac Marben, Pat Milbery, Jed Anderson, Jordan Michilot, Johnny Miller, Sammy Luebke, Gus Engle, Jake Olson-Elm, Austin Hironaka, Nick Visconti, Pat Campanaro, Scott Stevens, Ben Bogart, and a handful of others. The whole vibe of the night was as cliché as it sounds, epic!
From the autograph signing to Red Bull hooking us up with their VIP suite right on the grass of Quest Field. It was more than entertaining watching twenty dirt-bag snowboarders lurking and getting excited about free pizza in a VIP area usually reserved for the rich and famous. When the crowds gathered on the front steps of Quest Field the boys emerged like a group of shaggy gladiators ready for battle. There might not have been precipitation in the air but it was raining hammers as each rider started letting lose a barrage of tricks that left even the most hungry trick or treater satisfied.
At the end of the day there could only be one winner and one man clearly stood above the rest and even though he might be a young lad his riding would have had even the most established pro shaking at the knees. Jed Anderson rode with smooth style and had a bigger bag of tricks then anyone else. It’s no wonder the kid won the weekend before in Portland, congrats Jed. Well it was a great weekend overall and definitely sealed the deal for Snowboy throwing one of the most legit events of the year, I wouldn’t miss it next time if I were you. I didn’t ask but I’m guessing Krush and the staff at Snowboy would like to thank all the sponsors, Jesse Burtner for his microphone antics, Sean Genovese, Zach Leach, and Jon Kooley for being the celeb judges, and most importantly all the fans that came out to support, none of us would have jobs if it wasn’t for you. Keep it Classy.
1st Place: Jed Anderson Best Trick: Nick Visconti |

You are correct sir.
You are correct that Jed ANDERSON won. I didn't catch his name that night, and haven't met Jed Anderson, so I got the name mixed up with Jed Hoffman who was also riding that night...my bad. Too many Jeds.
My apologies for implying you were drinking. You were probably the only one who wasn't by the end of that night.
