Downtown Salt Lake City came alive with booze and shredding for the Fat Flake Festival rail jam. Hundreds showed up to partake in the fun and madness that is snowboarding. If you’ve ever been to Utah, you know that we have some strict drinking laws, any excuse to drink out in public is a good one and this contest proved to be no different. With MFM and Knucklz on the one’s and two’s hypin' the crowd up, the riders where throwing down, feeding of the energy of the crowd.

The contest was sponsored by Monster energy drink and rideutah.com. Monster was free flowing throughout the spot enabling this 6 hour extravaganza to keep the masses entertained. Part of this had to do with what was taking place in center stage, a rail jam. The set up was a three story drop in to a couple of boxes. The first was an up, swoop to down and the second was a gap to down.

The finals where held at night with Zak Hale taking home $800 for first place with his steezy rail dancing that would have made “Dancing with the stars,” fans jealous. Second was Eric Fernandez who absolutely destroyed the gap to box with his backlips and backtails. Taking down third was Benny Hernreich, his overall consistency was hard to miss, not to mention his dance moves on stage. Benny quickly threw is prize package into the crowd causing an entertaining fight amongst the masses.

For the women, Stesha Damico took home first for her leather jacket and jean get up. Oh and she also destroyed everything in her path including a front board through all the kinks on the up, swoop, down box thing. Alicia Trujillo finished second with a sick ass gap to nose press. Last but not least Alice Owens finished third with her maneuvers.

The after party was off the hook with Knucklz killin it on the beats... but you know what they say about an after party. “What happens at the after party stays at the after party,” So we’ll keep it like that.
