Resorts of the Canadian Rockies Focuses on Terrain Park Safety with an Industry-Leading Initiative

Calgary, AB – November 8, 2007 - Resorts of the Canadian Rockies Inc. (RCR) is recognized as an industry leader in providing world-class guest experiences at its mountain resorts throughout Canada. In doing so, RCR believes that safety in its mountain environments is one of its most important values. Supporting this mandate, RCR is moving in a new direction that will enhance safety at all of its resorts.

RCR cares deeply about the well-being of all of its guests and takes responsibility for their care very seriously. "We are undertaking an industry-leading initiative," says Matt Mosteller, Senior Director of Business Development for Resorts of the Canadian Rockies. "All man-made snow jumps will be eliminated from RCR terrain parks this season."

"We have found that one of the main issues that increase the likelihood of serious injury on our mountains is big air," says Mosteller. "When we are making decisions about safety at our resorts, the big jumps in the terrain parks always come into the equation. We decided to make a change."

Continues Mosteller, "We are committed to providing our guests with a safe experience at our mountains. We realize that this change may disappoint some guests who regularly use these man-made jump features. However, we believe we have a strong moral obligation to not compromise the safety of our guests."

At the same time, RCR will be making an increased investment in new rails and features for RCR's terrain parks. For example, this year's RCR TELUS Park at Lake Louise Mountain Resort features the highest-ever investment in new, state-of-the-art rail features that will cater to a wide variety of ages and abilities. RCR will have rail parks this season at Lake Louise Mountain Resort, Fernie Alpine Resort and Nakiska.

With the new rail park format, RCR will host a Rail Jam Series that will take place at Lake Louise Mountain Resort, Fernie Alpine Resort and Nakiska. Features used in the Rail Jam Series will be suitable for a high level of competition, while also adhering to safe practices.

For the past three seasons, RCR has also worked hard on developing its
family-friendly terrain parks. These unique parks, separate from the larger parks, feature small rails, boxes and rollers, encouraging learning, safety and fun in a non-intimidating environment. The feedback on these parks has been positive and they will continue to develop at all of the resorts.

lame

i've seen more people get hurt on rails than on jumps.

focusing on safety with an industry leading initiative? i've heard of more people getting hurt and fatal accidents going thru the trees. will you be taking down the trees as well? don't think so. ain't leading shit - pussies.

RCR rails parks? Who really wants that?

At the same time, RCR will be making an increased investment in new rails and features for RCR's terrain parks. LIES LIES LIES!!! It's my third season at Ski Louise, and my last one for sure if they don't change their mind! First of all, where are all those new rails they promised us?!? And where is the safety for those rails?!? The only thing they did this year is to only put some of the rails they had last year. Plus they got rid of the park staff that were taking care of the set-up of the rails, to have them scanning the stupid park pass at the entrance. So now we have a smaller park, with no jumps, less rails, and icy patches around the rails! And we all agree that rails are more dangerous than Jumps! I've been snowboarding for 16 years now, and I never injured myself on a jump, only on rails. And the hazardous rails at Lake Louise made my season a lot shorter! Why is RCR don't want to make a park pass for the jumps? Safety? bullshit! The only thing they want to do is to save money on their insurance. Every hand-made jump, RCR built, they have to insure it. But for rails, it's way cheaper and it's one insurance for all of the rails in the park. Again, RCR is full of bulshit saying it's for safety. Money is the only reason.

SAVE RCR PARKS!

RCR's newest Slogan

RCR... Leading the INDUSTRY...

New slogan to read...

" EXCUSES AND LIES SINCE SUPERPARK 9! "

you hit the nail on the head

you hit the nail on the head patterson, lies , lies ,lies

Lies, Lies Lies

Hey guys. I was in charge of the park at Lake Louise for years.. up untill the season after we hosted superpark 9, and they decided they were cutting the halfpipe and tried to downsize the park. This move has nothing to do with safety. RCR is trying to save money. there are a bunch of old goats running the show that HATE PARKS / SNOWBOARDERS / and have been trying to shut down the park since before we had our first invite to superpark years ago.

This move is $$$ related, not safety..

They advertised jumps/parks to sell passes until the day they made the press release.

Horrible move, horrible company.

Huh?

There are going to be A LOT of unhappy Albertans this season. And it looks as if Whistler is going to be even busier with all of the transplants.

Lake Louise park crew really had their shit together with the way they built their jumps too.

Just a big corporate mistake if you ask me. That or it's us Canadians trying to be too damn polite.

Bump

I'm sending this back to the top- THIS A TRAVESTY!

))< = >((

I wouldn't miss the jumps if they could guarantee 30cm of freshies everyday. Other than that, this sets a bad presidence. RCR ought to be spending more money on a good lawyer rather than on "state-of-the-art rail features".

rcr pussies

wow, go from hosting superpark 2 years in a row, to being a bunch of fags, murray edwards needs a slap upside the head. and i cant wait to see the state of the art rails, i bet they hover and have flashy light and glow sticks. pfffft

Bummer...

I don't think that all the money in the world invested into a bunch of rails will ever substitute grabbing "big air." Hopefully this doesn't become a trend. Surprising, cause Canadians aren't sue-happy like us lazy Americans. Lift ticket purchase=waiver.

Wow...just wow.

"Industry leading"??? God, I hope not. Ski patrol is going to have a lot of fun with people taking things into their own hands. If I lived up there I would spend some serious summer time making ninja-stealthy improvements on my own. What are they going to do about people building their own jumps all over the mountain? Are they going to frisk people for avy shovels?

Its a shame that lawsuit is having such severe repercussions. I felt bad for the family at first even though it was obviously the riders error in judgement that caused it. I hope that family chokes on their settlement.(well, not really, but c'mon...)

I think if RCR wanted to lead the industry in a good direction they would have implemented a special pass accessed only version of the parks. This is an absolute shame. Do they think kids falling off the rails are any less likely to get hurt?

AND WHOS FILLING LAKE LOUISE'S SPOT AT SUPERPARK? Because they officially have no business being there anymore...

what a we got our asses sued

what a we got our asses sued piece of bullshit. rail parks. who the hell wants to ride shity park rails all day.

Umm....

Kids from Utah?
(I keed, I keed...)

I'm still in shock that they took it this far, RCR is a bunch of pussies.
Yeah, I said it.

the booter...

...doesn't deserve neglect...ride'em large and icy...

oh yes,

...and they dont deserve anything but all the crap we can throw their way.
