Thanksgiving Snow for Vail's Opening Day

Vail Resorts receives up to 6 inches of Snow at Breckenridge and Beaver Creek, 4 inches at Vail and Keystone and Cold Temperatures during the Holiday

VAIL, Colo. – Nov. 21, 2007 – Thankful skiers and snowboarders celebrated opening day at Vail Mountain today with an extra treat, 4 inches of fresh snow. Tuesday night’s storm deposited 6 inches mid-mountain at Breckenridge and Beaver Creek and 4 inches mid-mountain at Vail and Keystone, as well as delivering single digit temperatures which are perfect for snowmaking.

The storm hit just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday which will allow the Vail Resorts in the Colorado Rockies to open more terrain for the weekend. Beaver Creek plans to open for the 2007-2008 season Friday, Nov. 23.

Breckenridge opened Quicksilver chairlift and the Silverthorne trail today with plans to open another trail, Cashier, and another chairlift (Mercury) tomorrow, bringing their total offering to four trails serviced by four lifts for Thanksgiving Day. More terrain is expected to open Friday for the holiday weekend

Keystone is planning to open its second base area, Mountain House, on Friday with more trails and the Peru chairlift. And, the resort will extend its ski day until 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday with the kickoff of night skiing.

Vail plans to open a Magic Carpet and beginner terrain at Eagle’s Nest on Friday.

The forecast calls for a chance of more snow tonight and then again on Friday at Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone with chilly temperatures ideal for snowmaking through next week. Longer range forecasts are calling for another storm at the end of this month.

The resorts are gearing up for a feast of early-season and holiday events with the Beaver Creek Gingerbread Competition and Holiday Tree Lighting at Beaver Creek this Friday, The 36 Hours of Keystone Nov. 30-Dec. 1 and Vail’s Snow Daze event Dec. 3-9 with headliner concerts and a snowball eating contest. Beaver Creek is also preparing to host the world’s fastest skiers at the Charles Schwab Birds of Prey World Cup Nov. 29-Dec. 2.

To sweeten the pot, Vail Resorts is offering early-season deals like the Vail Snow Daze lodging package that offers a 25 percent savings. For $374 per person Nov. 24-Dec. 12, get one free night of lodging at Vail and one free day of skiing at Vail when you purchase three nights of lodging and three days of skiing for a two-bedroom Vail condo with quad occupancy.

At Beaver Creek, book two nights of lodging and two days of skiing and get a third night and third day free for just $370 per person in a two-bedroom condominium with quad occupancy Nov. 24-Dec. 18.

Hotel rooms at Breckenridge start at $86 per room, per night Nov. 29-Dec. 20. The Lighting of Breckenridge is set for Dec. 1 followed by caroling and a Santa parade. Visit snow.com to book this holiday package at the Great Divide Hotel or the Village Hotel.
