Who makes the best "Gore Tex" Jacket?

I just found a great deal on the Sessions GT3 Goretex jacket online. For some reason, the retailers are slashing the price of these jackets in half, and i was able to get it for around 230.00

Is anyone familiar with this jacket? I had a Jamie Lynn Goretex Sessions jacket years ago and loved it. I know they make very good stuff, but does anyone know any dirt or good stuff about them specifically?

Or, a broader question, who makes the best gore tex coat? I was thinking about bidding on a Burton AK one, but for some reason, I cannot help but think Burton charges a little too much. The sessions coat is a top of the line jacket, which retails around 440. Anyone have an opinion?

hmm..

If we're talking strictly gore-tex, technically - arc'teryx makes good stuff..

also - sweet outerwear (literally) http://www.sweet.no

check out...

...the Bonfire "Command" Gore-Tex jacket. super functional.

Agreed . . Command is a great jacket for proper days up the mountain, and Bonfire have got their shit together quality wise.

Jeesus...

seems like you are obsessing about this too much..then I looked at your profile and saw you were in law school...sounds to me like you'll make a good one....seriously, any name brand jacket will work, they all carry some sort of warranty...and Burton is good; I rode the AK for a couple years, then went to Bonfire...and one more thing...bidding on an AK????, for crissakes find a good shop, become a regular customer and let them steer you in the right direction...and they should hook you up w/ the dinero...if you don't "lawyer" them to death! Hmmm... maybe time for "rasta" and an irie feeling?! Cool Runnings

ok....

Im not sure what to make of your post, but spending money on a jacket to me is a pretty important decision. This is why. I am sick of buying jackets that promise one thing then deliver another. I have owned ones from probably every major brand out there, and I havent really been driven toward one particular brand over another.

All i know is that for all of the shit talking that goes on about Burton and other "big name" brands, nobody really substantiates why they dislike them. It is usually "i knew a guy who knew a guy who's zipper ripped off..." or "my friend bought a coat once and he said it was too warm." I know these days, word of mouth between several or many consumers is usually the most "dependable" source for information regarding expensive products, but for some reason nothing concrete is ever said.

Like I said in my original post, I owned a Sessions Jamie Lynn Summit coat from a few years ago, and it was really good. But in this day in age, everything seems to be 3L Goretex with added features, and these "features" are usually things I know nothing about.

I appreciate your advice, but I still dont think there is anything wrong with asking a specific question regarding specific brands on this site to be "steered" in the right way. 99% of the time I go to the local shops, they blow smoke up your ass and really dont know too much about the product. IF you ask them "how is this coat", they will certainly respond with a "great" and list off 2 of the 10 things they were taught by the Brand Rep one early morning when they were still hungover and half asleep.

Its a flawed system. I hope that posing a question to you guys will yield better and more informative answers, hopefully even from experience. I could write about this for hours, but yes I will stop "lawyering" you to death...

Cheers.

Whooosh...

(big exhale) I was just poking a little fun at what seemed like someone taking the act of buying a jacket for snowboarding and turning it into a process...you liked the Sessions piece-buy the damn thing..if it doesn't work as promised, you seem smart enough to contact the company and get something that does work...as far as the shops go, I bet if you asked really, really nice, people could point you in the direction of a knowledgable shop in your area...seems like every good one has a straight edge that won't be irie or hungover...
and sorry, but I couldn't resist on the lawyer stuff...too easy a target...but at least I did offer up my honest opinion on what to buy.
Yes, I...Jah Rastfari over and out

we can agree to disagree...

but to me, buying a snowboarding jacket will always be a process...I hate being wet/cold/miserable on the hill.

happy shreds, jah-may-con.

Progression Session

Sessions has always been a solid, roots supplier for clothes and outerwear. I have that Jamie Lynn Summit and its been a great jacket (its just a little too big so I never wear it too much and wanna sell it). I'd have to recommend the Sessions, because they have always been solid to me for maany years. I was sad to see Jamie leave 'officially' for Volcom and stop throwin down his graphics on Sessions gear/clothes.

And regarding Burton, I ride mostly Mervin gear but have almost always boughten some Burton outerwear. They were one of the few back then that have stepped up on the outerwear and were a worthy investment in good gear. Even tho its pretty $$, check out your early/late season/pre-season sales- there are usually great deals on last yrs gear. They have them locally in mountain towns often, but check online like snowboardtrades.com for more affordable options. Or if you have something specifically in your mind, froogle it! tech jackets

if you want a no frills tech jacket. burton's ak line is definently of your alley. also, arteryx, mtn hardwear, cloudveil. but if you want the best gore-tex you'll pay a premium. like, $300 and up retail

cloudveil RPK for $400...

...a quality rip off. chunky zippers, terrible hood, bad barrel locks on the cords. forget about it, a terrible design. china's best. say hello to your ankles. bottom line, burton AK or salomon path line.

bullshit...

So I just got my jacket in the mail, and one of the buttons on the jacket was ripped off, so needless to say, I will be sending it back.

Back to square one.

..

Was it the Sessions you got? Was it from E-bay? Bummer dude.

nope...

no, not from Ebay, from a shop on the east coast. Im going to send it back though...
