BURTON ON SALE @ COSTCO!

Yup that's right! Staying core & staying true.....check the link
Granted someone could have graymarketed the stuff, but is the 500 lb. gorilla the culprit? I don't know but you decide.

I heard BURTON bought those a

I heard BURTON bought those all back from COSTCO. It came through the graymarket. Welcome to last week.

Yup

according to the press release Burton has bought them back.

Still there

I was in Costco yesterday getting diapers for the kid and there are Burton Custom 154 & 162's still there for the taking....retailing at 399.99....100 bones under retail. If they are taking care of it why are they still on the floor????? Just an observation thats all.

(.)(.)

weird, i was there yesterday too and not one in site anywhere? shit talk, methinks??

hahahaha

In the press release they claim they took it back.. whatever. Their fancy NY marketing agency wrote the press release after the boys in Vermont received 1000 phonecalls from their retailers who obviously found out about the costco adventure. But hey.. flagshipstores, direct online sales.. it doesn't matter really.. increase miminums and keep on overproducing to get your cost per product down and increase your profit over the back of your retailers that built the brand !

Well done !

grayer every day

If Burton really did cut a deal with Costco to get those products back, then they would have been pulled from the site by now. My site indexes snowboards from Overstock when they have them. I see 8 Burton Decks right now.

wow 7% off!!!!! holy shit !!!!

Who #!@^$&% Cares!?!

I had to register for this one. WTF! Who gives a shit where it's sold. I'll be the first to agree that Burton sucks, but does it really take a press release to inform you that Burton is a corporate whore? For a sport that claims to have some 'core' people there are certainly a bunch of primadonna punk wannabee's.

You want to be core? Make your own damn snowboard out of wood and lacquer it with whatever, otherwise your still buying a brand from someone who will eventually make money off of it, enjoy that money, than try to find out how they can make more money.

I bet if any one of you 'purists' were offered 10 million to never board you would never be seen on the slopes again.

STFU, don't worry about where it's sold, none of the money is going to go to 'enriching the culture' or whatever would make someone core, and Shred. Shred on a plank, Shred on a Burton, Ride a K2, who gives a shit. just buy a board and enjoy yourselves. None of us are qualified to define where shit should and shouldn't be sold, and if you really have a problem with it, take it up with that which is truly at the cause of it all: Free Trade and global capitalism.

And if your worried about the slope tourists: Population increase is to blame, not burton or Costco. Just like the roads are going to continue to have more traffic, the lines at disneyland are going to get longer and longer, etc.

Face it. Snowboarding is fucking awesome, and the more people that see how awesome it is, the more demand will fuel supply. It's not Burton, Costco's, the Media (well, maybe the medias fault), or anything else.

Capitalism. Accept it as inevitable, spend the rest of your life getting more and more pissed off, Or become a mad scientist and eliminate half the population, but those are your choices.

holy crap....that's church ri

holy crap....that's church right there!

Care Bears

i don't think its about being core. i feel that the ones being affected by this the most are the board shops. how can they compete and try to make their numbers if costco is selling the same product for $100-$150 less. i've heard but don't know if its true that board shops have to purchase a certain amount of burton product to carry it in their shops. so if costco is selling them cheaper how can board shops sell the boards they have in stock? shops carry burton because it is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, selling brand in snowboarding so they depend on those sells. in the long run this could cause your beloved board shop to close its doors.

board shops have supported snowboarding and burton since the beginning. so if burton is cutting a deal with costco to increase income and distribution, then that is a big slap on the face to all board shops. if burton has not cut a deal with costco then i think they should be taking better action and have them pulled immediately from all costco's and their website.

i'd like to hear from any shop owners on here how or if this affects you in any way or not.

Boards

Yeah. I can see your point there, but it goes back to free trade and capitalism. All things will be affected, and all brands too. Sooner or later, the 'core' brands will be forced to accept large distribution deals just to stay alive, and I guess what irks me is that when they do, they will be labeled as sell-outs, but if they do not, they will cease to exist. So accept distribution deals and be branded as traitors to the culture, or cease to exist at all..that's a no win situation, unless of course the culture stops worrying about where the product is being sold, and starts being concerned with how it is being made and how it affects their ride.

As for the small shops, they will have to find a way to adapt and take a service oriented approach to survive. their shops will become increasingly niche and supplemented with services relevant to the snow culture, and as a result, the snow culture might even be enriched through this adaptation. Yeah, it's a stretch...just trying to find a bright light to capitalism, not that I think it's right....but...then again I live in carbondale, so all we have is small(ish) shops. I probably have no credibility in this subject...just ranting. That and I had some dumbass tell me my board sucked yesterday so I'm sensitive to people judging gear for where it's sold today.....

burton did buy as many of them back as they could

we went to all the nw costco's and purchased every burton board they had. almost $80,000 worth of snowboards. burton didnt sell the boards to costco or to overstock.com, someone else did. its not illegal for them to sell burton in their stores or online but it's definately not cool.
