Estate LA owner hits the reef at Mt Baldy

With the blizzard dropping a huge snowbomb on Tahoe. Brett from Estate called me up late Monday night with the call 12-30 inches of snow had dropped on the Local LA range.

Its always a real crapshoot up here ...!

With the warmer weather coupled with high winds and fresh wet snowfall had created less than favorable conditions for some Pow shredding...
.. but we werent going to let a little low tide conditions ruin our fun.

Oh where is that Blunt at?

The views were awesome and we could even see Catalina Island in the background if we squinted hard enough

The ride up is gnar enough with the fuckin rickety ass 55 year old chairlifts.

But the snow laden redwoods and ancient pines have a really raw energy up here.

I found the blunt about here....!

Sweet cat track leads to the misty, or the danger!

Its really steep and has plenty of vertical

This place is like A Basin in CO, or Stevens in terrain availability.

This heli was doing avy control over The LA state hwy #2,

...but it looks like there could be some great lines in there on the perfect day.

Only one of Four lifts were turning so we headed for our standard slash zone about 40 minutes up the ridge.

and we kept hiking!

and hiking

Now to poke thru the trees a bit

Finally time to catch my favorite high ever.... riding some trees and slashing whatever is in my way.

I have heard stories about old school tele crunchers gnawing those same lines up on that ridge.

Looking at the parking lot at 1:30
Well the day was sweet after the hike we dropped in the magic ridge over to Old Mans Windlips for a few slashes and the turns were fuckin awesome up top with some breakable crust leaning to softer snow about 600 vertical down.

First run was epic so we charged up for a second gluttonous helping of the sacred chowder.

My run was sweet and we poked thru the fire road to the far drop away halfpipe gully and I was suddenly separated but hauling ass and hooting the whole way down. I didn't stop for the burn was intense and I selfishly rode all the way to the chair to unbuckle my pulsating arches and burning calves. I needed to sit down.
When Brett did not show up for the next 6 minutes I knew something wasn't right.

And when I finally saw Brett in agonizing pain holding his forearm, descending carefully into the chatter field, and handling uneven bumps into the chair loading zone, we assess the arm and it appears to be a huge bone bruise or fracture.
Turns out Brett was flowing the bottom section as soon as we split -he hooked the crust layer a bit in a high speed turn and then instantly caught a sharp shark tooth with his nose under the crunch layer which bucked him forward into another shallow reef protrusion. His forearm suffered a complex multi-faced fracture in two places and has since had surgery to place pins and reset the arm an ease the nerve tension on his funnybone and elbow.
I spoke with him today and he is well resting and looks to be back on track in just 6-8 weeks for the arm.
Brett is an awesome guy and we really appreciate his hustle and attitude towards work and life. If you don't know already Brett has worked his ass off the past few years founding Elm Company with Alex Karayan and then most recently breaking bread for the homeys with his own custom label ESTATE LA producing the some of the finest fitteds and custom runs using hand selected materials and Local LA labor to put it all together.
