Is the difference between a 162cm and 166cm board that noticeable?

I'm thinking of purchasing the new J. Jones board but not sure on size. It's not for the park, just all around free riding and light out of bounds days. I have a friend that's convinced I should buy the 166cm but all the sizing charts point me towards the 162cm. I should mention I'm 6 foot too. I guess my question is, does it really matter, are those 4cm that noticeable? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Yup...

the boards are different; at least that is my opinion. A 168 is usually engineered differently...shape may be different (look at the tail) and ride is not the same, either . A 162 can stilll make some pretty sharp turns that a 168 won't make (look at sidecut). I remember a Rossi Levitation 162 that I hated, but changed it for a 169 and loved it-and still take it for one run a year...well, it was my fav graphic, too-some of you may know which one it was...after all, I am a rastamon...

Depends on the board

Lucky for you, the Jeremy is a fairly soft board, as far as freeride boards go. I've ridden both, and am a little over an inch taller than you. The 162 is really manageable, where the 166 can feel a bit like a boat at times. Like I said, it's a soft board, so the inch and a half isn't super noticeable. It also has a fairly scoopy nose, which equals less edge contact length (a plus for the 66). I see that you normally ride a Salomon Definition. I'm not too familiar with that board, but what size is it? That might help out.
