STOP #4 OF VOLCOM'S NORTH AMERICAN PEANUT BUTTER AND RAIL JAM TOUR
The 4th stop of the 2007/08 North American Peanut Butter and Rail Jam tour went off under the lights at Mountain High Resort Fri Jan 18, 2008!
We were particularly excited about this event, as it would be the first evening affair of the tour. While not being particularly warm, night events are always a good time because of the atmosphere and next-level riding. Though the caliber of riding varies depending on the tour stop, we had high expectations for Mt. High’s talent. Not to worry, they delivered in a big way!
As always, Mountain High’s Chuck Allen and his entire crew overlooked nothing as they put together another world class PBRJ set up! Justin Montoya masterminded the scene, which was both accessible to the weekend warrior but contained elements that would challenge those boasting “local hero” status. The scene consisted of an up-box to 6 ft drop, flat-down box and a monstrous down rail.

The festivities kicked off at 4pm with the 15 and Under Division getting first crack at the three features. No time was wasted as the assault began with a healthy portion of vigor complemented by a groovy side of style. Nick Walters, JD Floen and Erik Mercade were in the first heat and definitely set the tone and bar for the 15 & under group! Dylan Taimarchi and Jake Vega noted this in the next heat and continued to up the ante! Notable tricks were thrown down to the tune of front boards, back lips and a few 270 to front boards.
Next up, the 16 & Over Division picked up where the younger riders had left off. Despite having their work cut out for them, their determination shone through with a delectable display of tom-jibbery! Among others, Luke Myers, Jonathon Strader and Chris Pulliam were pushing the limits and forcing the rest of the field to play a little catch up.

The ladies were up to throw down next and once again showed that estrogen is a force to be reckoned with! With notable heavies such as Nirvana Ortanez, Tanya Oleskowicz, Indigo Monk and Gabby Maiden, the show was on! The girls lived up to the hype as they proceeded to throw down tricks like high speed noseslides, 50-50 b/s 180 out and even some 270s to back tails!
After cheering on the ladies, the crowed hushed in anticipation of the Open Division. Not one’s to disappoint, these guys put on a show that won’t soon be forgotten! The Open riders dug deep into their bags of tricks and pulled out some serious hammers! After watching everything from a huge 450 to boardslide on the flat-down to a nollie backlip 270 out on the down rail, it was clear there would be no clear winners. What a night!

Thanks to Mt High’s Chuck Allen, Justin Montoya, Bryce Maxwell and Danny for all they did before, during and after the event. Thanks also to Donna Link, Kevin & Linda Quinn and Lee Dearman for helping with registration. Thanks to Ben Hugo, Justin Jones and Stevie from IE for judging. Hopefully you guys didn’t lose any fingers! Thanks finally to Celtek gloves and Vestal Watches for helping us stoke out riders with prizes!
