STOP #5 OF VOLCOM'S NORTH AMERICAN PEANUT BUTTER AND RAIL JAM TOUR
The 5th Peanut Butter and Rail Jam of the 2007/08 North American tour spread itself all over Northern California’s Sierra-At-Tahoe Resort Sun Jan 20, 2008!
The contest was originally scheduled for Sat Jan 5, but the area was hit by a massive storm and had to be postponed. The Tahoe stop is always high on our “to-do list” so we were more then stoked to have a chance to a second go at it. Check! Jen Kotter and the posse at Sierra always go above and beyond to make sure the event goes off without a hitch. This year was no exception as the terrain park crew toiled deep into the night creating this year’s custom PBRJ setup. After all the pushing, pulling, lifting and digging were done, the site consisted of a rollar-coaster to down box, reverse shark fin box and a down rail.
The 15 and Under Division were the first to tangle with the custom features. With local Tahoe riders like Clayton Doyle, Jesse Tonarelli and Nick Defressine large and in charge, we were in for a show! Bang bang bang! The boys didn’t disappoint and motivated the rest of the field to dig a little deeper into their bags of tricks! Back lips, 270s (in and out) plus more then a few 5-oh so fines were thrown in for good measure. The big youth was happening!

The 16 & Over division jibbed into the spotlight next and didn’t miss a beat! Some classic Tahoe sunshine poked out from behind the clouds as a smorgasbord of heavies were thrown down on all three features! As the free PB&J was unleashed to the masses, Alex de Guzman, Wade Godi and the rest of the 16 & Over Division unleashed their arsenal of trickery on the rails!
The Girl’s Division had the unenviable task of following up the aforementioned ripping. If this fazed them, they definitely didn’t show it! All the girls ripped, but the presence of experienced PBRJ vets like Joanna Dzierzawski and Kirstin Seitz added the cheese to my fries and gravy…smooooth back tails, switch 50-50s and front boards had everyone anxious to see who would take home top honors.

Rounding out the day, the Open Division was up last and somehow found a way to raise the bar further! Despite recently devouring PB&J sandwiches, these guys were still hungry and it showed! Everyone witnessed some serious skills as riders threw down in search of victory and an invite to the upcoming 2008 PBRJ Championships ($40,000 cash purse, Sat April 26)!
Thanks to Jen Kotter, Kirstin Kattell, Alex Liautaud, Jeb and the rest of the good people at Sierra-At-Tahoe resort for all their hard work and stone support! Thanks also to Frankie Jones, Jimi Tomer and Wes Klahn for judging, Brooke for helping with registration and the terrain park crew for keeping the site in A+ condition all day long. As always, thanks to Celtek Gloves and Vestal Watches for supporting with product.
