X-Games Torsten V. Rice

One tough call between rice and torsten - but the switch backside 12 was so smooth Todd called it as a 900 first. No hula hoop - smooth solid and stomped. Rice has his double cork 10 on lock as well. In the position to judge friends and teammates

I feel bad for todd being put in the middle of that with people who now very little about snowboarding.

Ultimately we discussed and I have to side with Todd - the 12 won in my bok because 1‚ it had never been seen and it was the first 12 I have seen with any kind of style let alone switch backside.

Yes sir

I'm usually a "style not math" guy, but in my opinion Torstien pulled both into a better package than TR. I've only heard of a handful of Switch back 10's, and most of em don't look good, but to pull a 12 off that kicker as well as he did definitely takes the cake. And thank you for not grabbing switch stale! the switch melon was so sick! Definitely hard to do. Those backside double corks are insane, but they are a bit whirly bird looking. TR is still incredible though. Todd made the right choice. I don't even feel like its a matter of opinion.

12 for sure

t-rice is sick but he can throw rodeos all the time and land em 8 out of 10 times. torstein is brand new in pro snowboarding(technically am) and 1st year in x games? and dials a sw bs 1260 with a switch melon grab that is so crazy and it had sick style, todd you without a doubt made the right call, i would have been really bummed if torstein didnt get 1st to a hucker trick.

To all the whinners:

It's just snowboarding-chill.

i am just stoked to see amazing riding-i don't care who 'wins'-all these riders are winners (excuse the lame coach speak).

kudos, tr.

Them logs need bowing®.

As sick as torstein's sb 12 w

As sick as torstein's sb 12 was i think trice shoulda got it. just cus trice is so ahead of the game and everyone has seen that trick before doesn't mean it isn't more difficult to do. i know if i had to try one of those off that jump it wouldn't be the double flip.

Torsten Vs. Rice

Todd called that perfect. Nothing against Travis, he's the Man. On any other night his trick would have won for sure, but a Switchback 1260 seriously? The judging format sucked to begin with. Who is the corporate Douche that came up with that?? Plus they have Todd at the bottom of the jump he couldn't see the take off. Torsten spun his first 7 before he even came into Todd's view. Torsten's 12 was so smooth and effortless, Todd had so assume he only spun a 9. I've never even heard of anybody doing a Switchback 12! THAT WAS PROGRESSION. Torsten will never be the rider Travis is but he won last night hands down. Plus did anybody see his Switchback 9 shoulder roll?????? That was sooo f#%ckin dope. Anyway, Todd called it perfect and anybody giving him flack should go watch a replay.

Too tough to call, but the 900 'shoulder dipper' Torsten put down in the final was the best trick of the night fo sho

Thought KP should have taken slopestyle though

here is my take on it...

it was an extremly sticky position to be in, and i have been catching alot of flack for my call. but, i stand by my call. a switch backside 1260 that effortless off that jump last night, won in my book hands down. who knows, any other time it may have been rice's double. all last night i had people coming up to me from both sides of the court. some really pissed off and making me feel as though my vote should have been more political than based on my, one persons, opinion on what i just saw in front of me. i thought that what torstien did last night progressed snowboarding, unfortunatly for me i feel as though that call degressed relationships that i have in the industry. lame

Werd....

I'll take a Switchback twirly-whirly with style ....over a tossed egg any day...
Good call TRichards....

people need to stop trippin

todd, you made the right call. their tricks we're equally sick, but horgmo's was soo clean. people shouldn't be giving you any shit about this at all

It's sad to hear you catching

It's sad to hear you catching flack for a call. Period. It's even sadder to hear you catching flack for making the right call. Both tricks were sick, but what Torstein did was unprecedented, and absolutely smooth. (What TRice did was great, but didn't we see it before? In Pop, then Gap Session, then in the Icer Air, etc.? Isn't Benedek doing double-corked 12's?)

You made the right call, and hopefully naysayers will realize at least one of the following 1) the BS 12 was progression, and 2) it's just snowboarding.

Anybody questioning this deci

Anybody questioning this decision probably hasn't ever tried to spin switch backside. It's the hardest and most unnatural rotation, and Torstien's jump was more tech than Rice's as a result. Not to mention smoother and more styley.

The double rodeo/cork/etc. is super sick, and definitely a more spectacular trick, but a SWBS12 grabbed smooth and stomped clean is progression defined. Nobody is denying that Rice is at the top of the game, but he threw a trick we have seen before, and Torstein did something that to my knowledge hasn't ever been landed in a contest.

Hi Todd.I just wanted to

Hi Todd.

I just wanted to say I agree that Torgmo´s ss bs 1260 was sicker than Trice´s rodeo.
Granted Trice´s trick was awesome too.

That´s what it came down to. Which trick was sicker.

I 100% behind Todd in this matter.

I didn´t see the contest, I just watched the web clips so I don´t really understand how it was judged.

It´s always hard to judge contests. And I´ve seen my fair share of lame judging.
But putting Torgmo before Rice at yesterdays semi final was not one of them.

Whatever "industry" people are giving Todd beef for liking the ss bs 12 more needs to take a chill pill and remember that this is only snowboarding not the 2000 Florida elections.

Congratulations to Torstein and Rice on stomping two insane tricks, too bad you had to go against each other.

I think.........

Last night watching that me and my friends were yelling at the television for the decision. This morning I have to admit it could have gone either way. If Eero didn't do the double back rodeo 10 in Follow me around and then if TRice didn't do that same trick in San Fran a month ago I think he should have won, but since I don't think anyone has ever done a switch back 12, I think it was the right decision to vote for Torsten. I just wanted to know if TRice had anything new and crazy for the finals or if he would have done the double back rodeo ten again. Everybody just vote for Obama and we'll be all good.

.

i dont understand why anyone is giving you flak for missing one call, people make mistakes and that is that.
but if this flak is for 1260 or double back rodeo 10, thats a different story. its your opinion and no one can say a damn thing.

i dont either.

for one... bad producing an planning on espn' side.. really no reason to put todd in that position.. to have him need to sit there and judge the moves right in front of the riders.. *what like 5ft away from him. ha.. it was kind of retarded..
there was a great point in that comp but they jus couldnt continue it for some reason.. about a qtr way in, it was very loungie feeling.. things were getting heated but pretty professional and mellow.. talib kweli tracks playin... it was feeling right.. then, as opposed to the riding... it turned down another path.. oh well.

on top of that.. they are sitting at the bottom of the landing and torstein was most likely a full 7 into his move before even being visable.. who is going to sit there and stare at the tv when it's right there..
anyways.. todd, you made the right call. the move was ridiculous and so pressed.. i even called 10 at first, watching it in HD and it took me a sec to realize the 12.. retarded skills.
add on top of that, the 9... horgmo wins.
progression and a ridiculous mindset, won that contest.

to anyone giving you a hard time.. just laugh. more or less tools, i figure?
