Yessurr. X Games in Aspen, Colorado is a wrap, and the SNOWBOARD Team was there all weekend long to bring you the play by play. Now, I'm not talking about the snowboarding mind you...you can get all that info from www.expn.com. It's their event, it was broadcast live in crispy cream HD, and if you really care about it then you already know what went down on the hill.
But you know how weee do. Besides the SIA tradeshow in Las Vegas (which started today my friends), The X-Games is the biggest party of the year. Private mansions, local clubs and even the top of the gondola serve as spots for all the athletes, media and company heads to get their drink on. And man, what a wild ride it is. Corpo money from brands like Oakley, Target, New Era, Zune, Toyota, Vitamin Water and Monster meant open bars everywhere. No liver was safe from complete overload. We even got in on the action and teamed up with local bros Akomplice Clothing and Radio Boardshop for some underground hip hop shit. Check out over 75 pics from everything after the jump, and get ready for more all week long from Vegas.
First stop as I rolled into town was the Akomplice HQ in Carbondale. Patrick and Mike McCraney are two brothers that grew up in the Aspen Valley and are doin' big things making clothes for the homies to rock. With a love for real hip hop and a message of unity, Akomplice has struck a chord with the finicky streetwear crowd. It's nice to see people from somewhere other than New York or LA gettin' in the game. They got us invloved in a party with Main Flow and Aspen's local shredding emcee, Mitch Reed aka Grymetyme.
The office, warehouse and trailer park home of Pat and Mike site on the covergance of two river just outside of Carbondale. Dope spot.
Jeff and Gary rolled into town right behind me, and together we headed up to the Oakley house for a welcome party. I say house, but...well, you'll see.
Part flim studio, part showroom, and all party—Oakley did it up huuuugge. Eero Ettala in the limelight.
The living room featured Gretchen Bleiler's new collection among other things.
Gretchen—still so hot right now.
Regular blogger Anne Flore Marxer and Omatic's Chanelle Sladics just gettin' started.
Comfy Target slips.
MFR has a few clothes.
And pretty eyes.
Trish Byrnes, Jacqui Berg and someone I'm upset that I don't know.
Self service bar in the kitchen. That turned out to be a problem for me later on.
Next it was on to the Target house, which was an even bigger mansion. Unfortunately they didn't want people taking photos (?), so I could only sneak in a few.
Evan and Jahlee from Transworld. They are cool.
Last stop was the New Era/Oakley/BME Click house party. Not at the fancy Oakley house, this place was right in town, full of beer and crunk juice and ready to rock.
Hexi Mexi and Chelsea from Oakley who made this whole BME thing happen. Of course none other than Lil' Jon himself was hosting the party and made sure everyone got crunked up. This was my favorite party of the entire weekend. Beats, Beezys, Booze, Bros and Blunts...what more do you need?
BME X Grenade—Yeeeaaaaahhh.
Jon, Dingo and Jenae.
This guy was classic, he didn't give a fuck.
Eddie Wall holdin' it down.
Whhhaaaaatttt. Yeeeaaaahhhh. Okaaaaayyy. (That never gets old!)
Zach Horowitz came thru in the Smith Limo and saved the day with a ride home.
Night two started out with a Vitamin Water party at our favorite hotel in Aspen, The Sky. Vitamin Water is quietly getting in the action sports drink game, recently signing Colorado Golden Boy JJ Thomas. Much tastyer (and better for your body) than most of the other the carbonated "energy drinks", Vitamin Water is a mellow alternative to the Monsters and Red Bulls of the world.
The Sky always draws the ladies in. Or maybe it was just because JJ was there?
Yeah, that must have been it.
MFM was chillin' for a minute too.
Colorado hero Chad Otterstrom.
Then it was on to Club Chelsea for the Akomplice/SNOWBOARD/Radio party with Main Flow. DJ Dev One of the Rock Steady Crew was on the ones and twos and kept the place jumpin'.
Girls love dancing with girls.
See?
D-Tale, GyrmeTyme and Main Flow.
Next stop was the Zune/Toyota Party with Trouble Andrew, J2 DJing and MYG on the mic.
Anne Flore was the life of the party all weekend long.
Three Time X Games Women's Superpipe Gold Medalist Gretchen Bleiler and Chris Hotell enjoying the spoils of victory. A late night afterparty at the Monster House and another 5:00 am bedtime signafied that night two was officially over.
The last day/night of X Games for Gary and I started out with a relaxing day of shred on Aspen Mountain. The mogul laden runs were mostly empty due to the contest so we managed to find some untracked pow in the trees.
That night it was the final blowout at the Monster Party. Plenty of free beers, booze and lots of girls made it a good time for all.
Top o' the gondola for the Monster Party.
AFM ruling it as usual.
Hey Mr. DJ.
Richards with some heavy hitters.
Patrick from Akomplice and Main Flow.
Yup.
She had dope kicks too.
Chanelle and Leanne on a roll.
They even got Wetherby in the mix.
Gary's friend for the night.
Braden from New Era™.
Hexi Mexi.
Dingo never misses a party.
Humpty Hump closin' it out.
Back down the Gondola.
Off to the Monster Mansion for after party number two.
Welcome.
DC Sock Party.
SNOWBOARD Sock Party.
Mercedes Nicoll and friends.
Basement dance party ending the night. And with that, X-Games was a wrap. The next morning Gary and I high-tailed it outta town to catch a plane for Vegas. Thank God I have a year off before this comes around again! Thanks to all the sponsors for allowing us to have such a great time. |
