The 7th stop on the 2007/08 North American Peanut Butter and Rail Jam tour touched down just North of Toronto at Blue Mountain Resort Sat Feb 2, 2008!

In case you’ve never had a chance to visit the area, Blue Mountain is located less then two hours from Ontario’s capital of Toronto in the town of Collingwood. Despite the town’s population only being around 17,000, Blue Mtn. offers all the things you might find at a larger resort. Among other things, the village at Blue is full of restaurants, shops and it’s fair share of adult beverage fill-up stations. While this is all good, the thing that interests myself and many other like-minded individuals would have to be Blue’s next-level terrain park. Designed and maintained by Jonathan Reid’s terrain park crew, the place is full of rails, boxes well-groomed tables and an impeccable halfpipe!

Things got underway at the second night PBRJ in as many weeks with the 15 and Under Division! The game was afoot and it didn’t take the 15 & Under Division riders long to give us more then a few reasons to take note of their trickery. As it is common knowledge that girls like guys who have skills, these guys were definitely straight playas. After hammers being thrown down in all three zones, it was Mason Hambly taking 1st, Taylor Watling sliding into 2nd and Anthony Wolf claimed 3rd.

Following standard PBRJ protocol, the 16 & Over group was up next and got right down to it! B/s 270 to boardslides, nollie back lips and switch back tails were just a few of the tricks that went down and kept the judges busy scribbling. After all was said and jibbed, Pat Hrivnak came out on top with Blair McKinney and Jesse Hambly taking 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The Girls Division was up next and the heat was on! After claiming 3rd at last weekend’s PBRJ in New Jersey, Christina Myal drove all the way from Pittsburgh, PA with her friend to take on the Canucks! Taking all the PBRJ host resorts around North America into consideration, top honours in the Girls Division at Blue continues to be one of the most tightly contested. After some serious riding and close scores, it was Victoria Marshall taking home 1st, Christina Myal 2nd and Palmer Taylor in 3rd.

Darkness was upon us as the Open Division got underway and the show began! Thinking back to the past few years I can’t recall a stronger contingent of Open Division riders at a regional, pre-championship contest! Their bag of tricks was apparently bottomless as a daunting array of heavies were thrown down in all three custom PBRJ zones!

Thanks to Blue Mountain’s Jonathan Reid, Heather Favalaro and the terrain park crew for once again going above and beyond to host the 5th annual PBRJ at Blue! These guys know what they’re doing! Thanks also to Tyler Ellement, Eric Gravinish and Jay Beech for judging, Erin Gilbart and Natasha Lucky for tabulating, and Tarik Elmas, Nic Harlos and Ryan Ceaser for helping put out the vibe. We can’t wait to see the Blue Mtn qualifiers throw down at the 2008 PBRJ Championships at Mammoth Sat April 26 ($40,000 cash purse)!
