Interview By Scotty the body Ok, straight up without sounding to much like this kids TM, Brennen is dominating the younger pipe crowd along with the likes of Trevor Jacob, Matt Ladley, and others. He is progressing at the contests he is competing in and that is so rare for the calculated execution that comes from most kids trying to make it. Keep your eyes peeled. -Scotty the body Sponsors: Ride Snowboards, Dakine, Smith Optics, Ted Shreds (candles) tedshredsonfire.com, Bern helmets, The FL Project, Afton Alps Ski Resort. Scotty: Yo Brennen, how did you get into the game? We have seen you climbing the ranks at the revolution tour stops, and now you just got a 7th at the Grand Prix in Idaho. What's in the water your drinking kid? Brennan: Well my local ski resort in MN was lacking snowboard instructors and my dad (Rick) volunteered to learn how to snowboard and become an instructor. So, when I turned 3 years old my dad brought home this prototype 101.1 Burton Air snowboard. The thing was sick (still have it in my room), the only thing I couldn't find was a pair of boots my size, so I used some Sorel snow boots. When I turned 6 I went to my first USASA Nationals, that is what really got me going on the competitive gig. As for the water... I guess it's probably all of the Kool-Aid and sugar I put in it to make it taste good.
Scotty: Do you think living from CO has made a difference in your shredding? Brennen: Yes. I came out to CO this year for my senior year of high school (VVTA). Riding at some of the Summit County resorts everyday improved my riding by like a million percent. I just wish that they had toe ropes like in MN. Scotty: So tell me about your season so far. Pretty good run eh? Brennen: Yeah you could say that... so far I have landed the podium at every Revolution tour that I have entered, pretty pumped on that (it qualified me for FIS Junior World Championships in Russia this March). Also, I've done well at the rail jams here and there. As for the 7th place at the Grand Prix, I can only tell myself I can keep improving and doing better and never back off.
Scotty: What else do you have planned as far as filming and shooting photos go? Brennen: I've shot some photos here and there this season, pretty sick. Its really fun because you get to do huge fun tricks you love and not always the hardest trick over and over. And for filming... I haven't really had the chance for that yet, but I am sure that it will come soon. I just have to keep shreddin' and having fun doing it.
Scotty: Where do you want to take your contest snowboarding? Is the X Games or Olympics your final goal or do you just do it because your a competitive person in general? Brennen: Um... The Olympics and the X Games would be pretty intense and I hope that I will keep progressing to reach those levels, so far it is looking pretty good. I don't show it very much but I'm pretty competitive. But it wont kill me if I do bad, you just gotta be a good sport. The main thing about competitions is that it is fun do ride with your friends from different areas. Scotty: What are you doing this summer, do you shred on Hood or just chill Brennen: I guess I do a little bit of both. Hood is way rad, and I'm also planning on going to New Zealand and Australia. This summer will be sick, working at Afton Alps, fishing, wakeboarding, skating, chillin' with the dude bros, the lady friend, and relaxing.
Scotty: Well, that wraps her up, say your thank you's: Brennen: Thank you Scotty Conerly! Also thanks to the fam, the friends, and the sponsors at the top... oh, and baby Brady, Jason, Boyd!, SSCV, MSA, SAHS, and yeah! |
