The 3rd Annual Queen's Cup Open in Park City, Utah went down this weekend, this time adding snowboarding to the contest for the first time. Hosted by K2, Park City Mountain Resort and the Women's Sports Foundation, the Queen's Cup Open is an all-girls charity event with proceeds going to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. With the busy winter travel schedule in full swing for most of the industry's pros, the Queens Cup is more of a local, grassroots event that gives some of the area's solid amateur female riders, like Madison Blackley (above) a chance to show off their stuff.
Now personally, I would never go to Utah unless it was absolutely necessary—the last time being the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. While most regard it as the hub of professional snowboarding, anyone familiar with the usual haunts of the SNOWBOARD crew knows that we pretty much steer clear of Joseph Smith’s promised land and his magic underwear sportin’ followers whenever possible. But this weekend, I had an outside influence. Scotty the Body himself called me up and told me he was announcing the event and we should make a video for www.snowvision.com. When I noticed we were actually a sponsor as well, I figured, “Well, what the Hell…how bad can Utah really be?”
The weekend kicked off with a Rail Jam on Friday night in the Town Lift Plaza, right in the heart of Park City. Rails were set up throughout the snow piles on the side of the road, and a flat down was even welded in the middle of a staircase! It was the first time Park City has ever allowed a rail event downtown, and the ladies made good use of the various set ups. MFM even brought up the big rig from SLC, while DJ Knucklz provided the soundtrack for the evening. Here's Elise Borelli locking it in.
The rail over the walkway was a good gapper.
Madison Blackley, Erika Vikander and Elise Borelli walked away the winners.
Saturday brought the slopestyle portion of the event, and the girls were split into teams of five.
All the girls had fun jibbin' it up.
Erin Comstock, fresh in from Europe showed up to play team captain.
The Park City Park crew made the girls a sweet custom course.
Scotty and I acted a fool on the mic. Unfortunately when I went to lunch I left my coveted Skate Banana at the bottom of the course. Well, some little Utah wanna-be wigger thug brat stole it! That's right, the yellow Lib Tech Skate Banana with the limited edition Union SNOWBOARD bindings got jacked. This is an official APB out on the board. If anyone finds this it (and knocks out the punk that stole it), there is a HUGE reward of SNOWBOARD callabo gear waiting for you.
All the girls were stoked!
There were plenty of great prizes from event sponsors like Da Kine, Nikita, Skullcandy, Kicker, Paul Mitchell and ThirtyTwo. When it was all over the ladies from the Rail Jam continued to dominate. 1st went to Elise Borelli, 2nd to Madison Blackley and 3rd to Breck's Meg Whiteside.
But everyone went home with something, and there were lots of happy ladies.
Finally Saturday night it was time for the big blowout afterparty at Harry O's downtown. The club was crazy packed with an eclectic mix of smokin' hot Utah babes, South American imports, go-go dancers, striped shirt meatheads and of course, local and visiting shred heads.
Scotty "S.C.O.T.T." Arnold and Neil "Lil' Steeze" Provo in tha house. Scotty didn't think my description that, "It's like Hip-Hop threw up on Utah" was very funny.
Bar dancers downstairs.
We had the upstairs VIP zone on lock. Event founder Anna Demasi, Scotty the Body and yours truly.
It was a dance party up there too.
Haaaaay.
Someone rockin' a fresh DC fedora.
Steady loungin' son.
Poroto and the Chile crew.
Oh, so sexy.
Megs and Heelflip.
Haliy and Ben. Masked Marauders.
In the end, I guess Utah's not all bad. Despite getting my board stolen and having to drink 27 cocktails to get a buzz...we all had a great time. Special thanks to Nancy and Anna Demasi, and big ups to all the sponsors: K2, Park City Mountain Resort, The Women's Sports Foundation, Da Kine, Nikita, Skullcandy, Paul Mitchell, and Kicker Audio. And look for a full video report coming soon! |

yep
looks like share the same view on Utah. That place always reminds me of that movie Pleasantville, were everyone is in black and white and Im the only one in color. Whatever htough, the riding there is top notch.
Sucks about yr board dude. That GNU riders choice is over at Bakers house if you want to pick it up next time you are out there.

Bummer Panch, someone will know something soon. Those limited edition SNOWBOARD mag/Union bindings aren't hard to miss and there aren't many.
I'm sure someone will want that huge reward of SNOWBOARD callabo gear.
