STOP #10 OF VOLCOM'S NORTH AMERICAN PEANUT BUTTER AND RAIL JAM TOUR
The 2007/08 North American Peanut Butter and Rail Jam Tour officially hit double-digits with our 10th stop going down Sat Feb 23rd at Powder Ridge Resort, MN!
This stop hit close to home for a few reasons. At the top of the list would have to be Brandon Janssen. Brandon is the newest addition to our PBRJ tour crew and calls St. Cloud, MN home. This being the case, he was able to work closely with Tommy Clingman and the rest of Powder Ridge’s terrain park crew to design a top-notch contest site! This year’s PBRJ setup consisted of a 32 ft down rail, a flat-up-flat box and a down-flat-down rail! Also, the event was moved from mid-mountain down to the base area so everyone got a chance to dive into some free PB&J as well as witness the technical wizardly being thrown down on the three features!
As tends to be the case, the Powder Ridge PBRJ kicked off shortly after 10am with the 15 & Under Division testing their mettle against the formidable features! These guys made their winning intentions clear as they pounced out of the starting gates and began their attack! Front boards through the down-flat-down, tweaked out 5-0s and a few buttery smooth back tails are just a few of the tricks that pop into my head as I type this. All the 15 & Under riders rode super well, but after the numbers were crunched it was Colin Wilson in 1st, Josh Johnson 2nd and Peter Kittok claiming 3rd! Nice work chaps!

Even though we dropped the three PBRJ features in the night before, the 16 & Over Division rode them like they’d been there all season! They must have had the PBRJ “Coles Notes” or something. Whatever it was, no time was wasted as they dropped in and threw down some bangers for the 200-300 riders and spectators! Nollie back lips, switch front boards and a few riders were even gapping to the down on the down-flat-down rail! Insanely mental! Despite some incredibly close scores, it was Russel Bissonette taking home 1st, Tony Young 2nd and Brent Mohs 3rd.

The ladies were up to throw down next! I going to go ahead and say it, the girls at Powder Ridge rip!! I can’t recall a more solid collection of femme-shreds at any of the North American PBRJ stops so far this year! They all rode hard for 20 minutes and put on a heck of a show! Switch 50-50s, front boards and even a switch 180 to 50-50 to switch 50-50 f/s 180 out were just some of the tricks that went down! Whammy! Ms. Sara Winger ended up in 1st, Brianna Zilles 2nd and Cassandra Winner in 3rd!

The Open Division followed up this anarchy with some more of their own! Everyone had been waiting to see what the Open Division would bring to the table and I think it’s safe to say no one went home disappointed! These guys had invites to this year’s $40,000 PBRJ Championships on their minds as they threw down on all three features leaving most everyone slack-jawed with disbelief! After Brandon counted and then recounted the scores, it was Ezra Jacobson claiming 1st, Josh Tranby in 2nd and Danny Nyren jibbing into 3rd! What a show!
Many thanks to Layne Anderson, Becky Steiger, Tommy Clingman and everyone else at Powder Ridge for all their hard work and stone support. Thanks also to Steve Holzheimer, Jimi Halonen and Corey Schneider for judging. Thanks to Melissa Rueble, Richie Steiger, Malorie Steiger and Volcom’s own Andy Conrad for their help. Last but not least, thanks to Electric, Vestal and Celtek for supporting the PBRJ with prizes!
