Festival Returns to Whistler for it’s Seventh Year
WHISTLER, BC, March 26, 2008 - On Wednesday April 9th, Telluride's MOUNTAINFILM Festival returns to Whistler. The festival will include exhilarating and provocative works from around the world -- some shorts as well as longer pieces which were featured during the Mountainfilm Festival in Telluride, Colorado -- including adventure sports from all over the globe, glimpses of other cultures, and portraits of remarkable people.
The evening will host a blend of cultural and adventure films. At every tour stop, a MOUNTAINFILM presenter brings the films to life by setting each in its proper context, weaving a narrative thread to create a thematically distinct event.
The films tell us something about the world we live in, and the world we would like to live in. MOUNTAINFILM is about ideas. It is about cultures and the landscapes they occupy. It is about a world where adventure is alive, history is important and people are passionate about what they believe. It is about environmental integrity and about a rich spirit of celebration.
This year’s Mountainfilm event is sponsored by the Raynier Foundation in support of the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Environmental Fund. This Environmental Fund is supported by donations from Whistler Blackcomb employees that are matched by the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation.
“The Fund supports local environmental projects that are chosen by staff members,” Says Allana Williams, Chairperson for the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Environmental Fund. “To date we have collected over $180,000 and completed 32 local projects.”
To thank our members and local supporters, we will be hosting a reception before the event with appies provided by Ciao-Thyme Bistro, specializing in organically inspired cuisine. The reception will be held from 6-7 pm, with the shows starting at 7pm at Millennium Place.
Tickets are $15.00 and are available at Millennium Place or through Ticketmaster at ticketmaster.ca.
