Makboard: Clear, Recyclable Snowboard Rides Like No Other

Lake Tahoe Snowboarder Invents World's First Fully Recyclable Snowboard Public invited to demo the Makboard at the Lake Tahoe Truckee Earth Day festival, April 26 at The Village at Squaw Valley USA

[Truckee, Calif.] March 27, 2008 — Designed to carve, slash, and surf the mountain, the Makboard looks and rides unlike any other snowboard on the market today – and it’s 100 percent recyclable.

Lake Tahoe rider and inventor Bob Candler was turned off by the waste created when a snowboard reaches the end of its useable lifespan. He spent 15 years tinkering in his garage, perfecting a revolutionary snowboard made entirely of Makrolon — a clear polycarbonate material that is 100 percent recyclable. Now, the Makboard solves the problem of what to do with old, played-out snowboards.

"Taking care of our planet is something that should be important to all riders," Candler said. "I created a board that, instead of ending up in a landfill, is melted down and reshaped into another snowboard when its life is over."

Since Makboards are manufactured in the USA, recycling an old Makboard is as simple as sending it back to the company with a pre-paid shipping label. And snowboarders who do choose to recycle their old Makboards will be given a credit toward the purchase of a new Makboard.

"Ultimately, what we're trying to do is keep these things from ending up as pollution," Candler said. "As snowboarders, we've got to be on the front lines doing all we can to protect what we all love — the mountains, the environment, and everything that makes snowboarding so much fun."

With the release of the Makboard for sale to the general public, snowboarders can now experience the relaxed, surf-like ride that only a Makboard offers. And all riders in the Tahoe-Trukee area are invited to demo the Makboard for free at the Lake Tahoe Truckee Earth Day festival April 26 at the Village at Squaw Valley.

“We were lucky enough to have a good snowpack this year, which means we should have great conditions on the slopes during Earth Day," Candler said.

Makboards are now available through select snowboard retailers nationwide, as well as directly to consumers through the Makboard Web site, Makboard.com.

I met these guys at Squaw last year randomly. The dude pulled over talked to me about it then handed me his stick and let me ride it for a couple of runs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iEXHpa5gYk The holes in the back are to pull the ass end down in pow so it floats better. On the hardpack it kind of dragged a bit. To me the board road wicked loose like it needed something to stiffen it up so you don't roll over the ends but the two guys that were riding them were seriously ripping on them. Heckle all you want, and no I wouldn't buy one, but when you see the stuff in person your kind of impressed. I was.

way to waste 15 years of your life tackiling a major "problem" you stupid douche. seriously, "snowboard waste" probably ranks about 250 millionth on the list of environmental issues. insulting twat, fuck off.

So sit back and do nothing be

So sit back and do nothing because snowboard waste is such a small amount of the garbage that ends up in land fills? It's better than nothing and if every manufacturer got off their asses and did their bit we wouldn't live in this shit-hole we call earth.

do you

drink bottled water because it's healthy?

not for the planet. SanFran has banned city employees from drinking it. It's the worst thing we can do to our planet as far as waste management goes. Snowboard waste is not a problem. You wanna bitch and moan, then do it about something that matters.
