The 16th stop of the 2007/08 North American Peanut Butter & Rail Jam tour flew off the handle Saturday April 5th at Brighton Mountain, UT!
This year marked our 3rd annual pilgrimage to the land of good morals and single-shot cocktails. Brighton has a great scene going on in the Salt Lake City area so we were stoked to return once again! There are a few things that make our visits memorable: at the top of the list would have to be the shredding! Riders there have things figured out and don’t hold back when the opportunity to throw down arises. The second notable aspect of the Utah vibe is definitely fashion. Everyone at the hill is part of a distinct crew that exhibits a distinct style. Whether it’s a belt/Nintendo controller cord, remarkably tight stitched-in pants, or tall teez to the kneez, no shortage of creativity goes into their ensembles.

As tends to be the scenario, the 2008 Brighton PBRJ kicked off with the 15 & Under Division. It didn’t take much time for the three custom PBRJ features (down-flat-down box, double-barreled down-rail, flat-down box) to come under heavy fire from PBRJ assailants! More then a few notable tricks were hammered out in quick-succession as these guys got everyone fired up! 50-50 to b/s 180 outs, front boards and even a flawlessly executed switch lipslide was witnessed. When the snow settled, Chase Fromm took 1st, Caleb Horne 2nd and Mike Williams placed 3rd!

Shortly afterwards, it was the 16 & Over Division’s chance to turn it up to awesome! From the starting horn it was clear these guys would seize the opportunity. Some flavors of he fashion I mentioned earlier were in full-effect. I’m pretty sure more then a few riders were smuggled into the contest inside their friend’s shirts! Cameron Neilson and Michael Kunz lead the charge early and apparently inspired the rest of the division because the level of riding went through the roof! When the 16 & Over Division’s madness came to an end it was Jeremy Seegmiller locking down 1st, Michael Kunz 2nd and Ian Van Assche placed 3rd!

The girls were up next and it was easy to see they had been paying attention to what had gone down before them because they wasted no time in administering a serious thrashing of the three PBRJ features! From Madison Blackley to Elise Borelli, the girls were large and in charge! Back lip 270 outs, back tails and switch 5-0s are just a few of the bangers that everyone got a chance to visually chew on. As the numbers had it, Madison Blackley claimed a well-deserved 1st, Desiree Melancon banged out 2nd and Ms. Iris Lazzareschi came in a close 3rd!
At long last, it was the Open Division’s turn to leave their mark and needless to say it was a big one! With notable names like Stuart Gingras, Caleb Flowers and Tristan Sadler in attendance, we knew we were in for some serious tom-jibbery! Switch back lip b/s 270 out, corked b/s 450 to tailslide and even a backside rodeo to front board were all thrown down in the blink of an eye! After some heavy number crunching it was Sean Black claiming 1st, Tristan Sadler in 2nd and Caleb Flowers a solid 3rd!

Special thanks to Jared Winkler and the entire Brighton team for all their PBRJ-related efforts. Jared and the terrain park crew were onsite all day keeping things looking radical! Thanks also to Volcom’s own TJ bottom for being an A+ host and helping pull everything together. Thanks to Brad Dohnal for helping with registration and Mo Collet, Chad Holmes and Ryan Turley for judging. Last but not least, thanks to Electric, Celtek and Vestal for backing us up with prizes for the winners! If you haven’t qualified for the 2008 PBRJ Championships yet ($40,000 cash purse!), you’ve got to get it done next Saturday at Keystone, CO (April 12)!
