SNOWBIRD, UTAH – Skiers and riders will be able to celebrate the first day of summer on boards as Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort will open for one final weekend of skiing, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 20-22. Sunday, June 22, will signal the close of resort skiing in Utah with the last day of skiing and riding at Snowbird, Utah’s only resort still open for skiing and riding.
“Thanks to significant snowfall that began Dec. 1 and kept falling into June, Snowbird ended up with over 600 inches for the season and the ability to offer skiing and riding during the first official weekend of summer,” said Snowbird President Bob Bonar. “We’re happy to be able to open for one final weekend as a thank you to locals and season pass holders for a great, snowy season.”
Sunday will mark the 183rd day of lift-accessed skiing and riding at Snowbird during the 2007-08 season that spanned eight months from November to June. The Little Cottonwood Canyon resort received 611 inches of snow throughout the season and is currently reporting an 82-inch base.
Snowbird will be open for skiing and riding Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 20-22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Aerial Tram, Little Cloud and Mineral Basin Express chairlifts will operate, servicing advanced and expert terrain only. There is no easy skiing or riding and no beginner or intermediate terrain. The spring lift ticket price is $59 per day and tickets will be sold at the Snowbird Center only, accessed by Snowbird Entry 2.
This weekend also brings the inaugural Grill on the Hill BBQ Championship to Snowbird Friday and Saturday, June 20-21. The newest addition to Snowbird’s summer event lineup will feature the best barbeque chefs in the country vying for their share of $10,000 in cash and prizes and provide plenty of good food, children’s activities, live music and entertainment for spectators along the way.
