Waterville Cultural Diversity

Waterville Valley, NH ..... The NH Cultural Diversity Council held a reception in Concord on June 4th to celebrate the 9th anniversary since the NH Legislature signed the bill to make Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day an official holiday in New Hampshire . The event was a celebration for NH Legislators thanking them for their efforts in signing this law. Waterville Valley was also recognized and received a commendation from Governor John Lynch for hosting the annual "Keeping The Dream Alive" cultural diversity conference and workshop for New Hampshire 's youth.

"Keeping The Dream Alive" was created to develop cultural awareness in today's youth while helping them to become tomorrow's leaders. Students attend diversity workshops in the morning at the Waterville Valley Conference Center , then head to the slopes for an afternoon of skiing and riding Waterville Valley . "Attendees of the conference leave feeling that they have more in common with each other and a deeper understanding of the importance of diversity and community", explains Wayne Jennings, Chairman of the NH Cultural Diversity Awareness Council. More then 1,700 students and 175 teachers have gone through the "Keeping The Dream Alive" program since its inaugural event on January 31, 2001.
