01/07/2008 - Wintery conditions have hit Mt Buller bringing fresh snowfalls which began falling yesterday and continued overnight. Mt Buller residents and guests welcomed 12 cm of the fresh white stuff to the resort and with more snow predicted today and Wednesday, and favourable snowmaking conditions forecast to continue, hopes are high that Buller will open some of its most popular runs in time for the weekend.
Holiday-makers already at the resort are reveling in snow play and tobogganing on the new snow-play exclusive area in the Village centre.
Over $300,000 has been invested at Mt Buller this season in a new automated snowmaking system to ensure that snowmakers are able to respond to favourable conditions immediately. This, when combined with the Waste Water Reuse and Conservation Project, has increased Buller’s snowmaking capacity by 30 per cent.
“With more than 53 automated snowmaking machines we can produce around 200 cubic meters of snow in 12 hours,” says Laurie Blampied, General Manager of Buller Ski Lifts.
“We are confident our guests will be hitting the slopes very soon”, he said.
Buller’s action packed events calendar kicks off on July 4th with the Mark Adam’s Golf and Ski day, followed by the Australia’s most spectacular snowboarding event, the Cattleman’s Rail Jam on July 12.
