Nobody...
Nobody deserves it more than you GB. Congrats!!!
Not to take anything away fro
Not to take anything away from Grethchen (I met her once, she is a sweetie), but its funny how the mainstream media views her as the best female snowboarder, but within the sport itself, Marie France Roy was voted best female rider by Transworld. Just comparing different outlooks.

good call my little nut. i agree with your comment.
these days mass media appoints crowns to people that are market friendly or have some lifetime entertainment story to offer for increased ratings. case and point was palmer's life ordeals cum saga of survival that was smeared/perhaps exploited across expn2 and 'usa today' not too long ago.
sadly, the mass market appears to file story's, such as palmer's amazing achievements, under lackluster titles, like 'a remarkable athlete with an empowering story' and forget about the pzalm until he pops up at the next 'extreme broad casted event', leaving the mountain dew couch potato to say to himself, 'oh yeah, i remeber that guy... what's his name... sha...shaun something or other. does he have his own video game or is that the other shaun guy?'
this same viewer (and most probable purchaser of axe body spray™) is the same guy who knows riders like shaun white through mediums like, cnn's ticker-tape of 'the flying tomato does it again!' or some weak 'outside magazine' layout or some low-end 'rolling stone' article that portrays snowboarders as fruitcakes that don't know vowel sounds from doughnuts.
now, don't get me wrong, these market friendly riders, like white and bleiler, are truly worthy of their accomplishments and respective appointments (whether it be a check for $50k for first place in the dude tube, an espy or whatever). however, i find that all of these little things have lead to the jock-ti-fi-cation of snowboarding.
when crazy money enters the ring, the one time local slope comps are now moved to arenas full of blue chip sponsors (like audi, gillet razors, red bull, volvo, etc.). these venues now house sports agents who handle their rider/client's interviews while that same rider tells his/her waxing team what s/he wants to make them go thirty-plus feet off the quater, so that they can win that solid gold 25K oakley watch.
now everyone wants a piece of a mass market rider-car sponsors, resort sponsors, even signature clothing lines at big box stores (a la mr. white's shaun white target collection®). what happened to the days of getting spit on by supposed adults while you waited for the chair and being called a punk by thirty-something tourons? those same tourons, are the same fools high-five-ing each other every time they see the flying tomato loft out of an aspen pipe at the x-games. the aspen x-games, where they shunned snowboarding at one of their mountains up until recently...makes about as much sense as awarding the olympic halfpipe venue to park city (who also hated you for snowboarding until recently).
the snowboarding that a lot of us view as a lifestyle (whether it be the riders that we look to or influence us in regards to lifestyle, style emulation, purchases or whatever) go beyond the 'usa today' headline banners and cnn ticker-tape. personally, i don't give two-shits who won the u.s. open or any other urban rail contest. i'd rather be hiking for powder, looking for some pillow line and jibbing some deep-forested log slide than having to watch some contest donkey from my couch on a sunday morning.
whose to say if espn will 'grace' a rider, like france-roy, to enter into their country club of kewl. something tells me france-roy wouldn't give a fuck either way, as long as it did not get in the way of her snowboarding.
You surely are the Master of Crap
FYI Aspen has four mountains that make up Aspen Snowmass Resort. Buttermilk has always allowed snowboarders and that is where the X Games are held. All hail TheNut. If you are going to hate on a resort, try mad river glen, taos or Alta. I know that Taos is saying that they are open to shredders but that is truly wool over the eyes.
Other than that, I can understand where you are coming from. I sometimes miss those days to. However I don't miss living on Ramen or wondering where my rent money is coming from. Our industry has been completely redesigned since the late 80's when I started snowboarding and that is ok, mostly. That is why we do need to be mindfull of who we let control our industry and then its all good. Know your history because that is what will keep our core values alive and well. However with out these giant corporate sponsors you most likely wouldnt see Marie France or any other shred going to Japan or Russia or some remote destination. You wouldnt see huge advances in technolgy in snowboarding either. Do we need Navy ads in our mags, hell no. Do we need shreds that all they care about is signing on for football money sponsorship in out sport hell no. I am pretty sure that GB has signed on for the right reasons. She just so happens to be at the top of the game and there for she is getting rewarded for her hard work and dedication.
If Marie France Roy could comment on your statement I am sure that she would say that Gretchen does deserve her ESPY then she would say who gives a shit. Gretchen works a lot harder in women's snowboarding than most. So maybe research some facts next time because GB isnt just a "pipe jock" she is probably one of the most well rounded female shreds out there. But people will always hate when you are on top.
If you want to hate on something legit, why don't you hate on NASCAR. Did you know that it costs a NASCAR team 25 million just to fund there gas for the season. What good is comming out of that? Pollution? Bunch of fat gross people drinking beer? That my crapmastering friend is truly fucked up and wrong.
But what do I know? Im all f'd up on pills after having a wisdom tooth yanked out of my skull.
ps. its says you wear salomon boots. are they rear entry?

Easy bro-cali dude...
the aspen ski company hill i was talking about that did not allow snowboarding until recently was AJAX.
and i don't hate on aspen skiing company-i like their forward thinking approach to wind power. you need to chill on that 'aspin-tude', holmes.
i think you should re-read what i wrote, because those pills are blocking your logic.
get back to me. hope the teeth are not impacted.
...
The pills are not blocking my logic (well maybee a lil) just the pain in my mouth. Not impacted. Thanks.
And Marie France owns it. She is a bad ass and her name should have been on that list before Jacobelis.
Cali dude?
God bless america and the freedom of speech! I love this website. Fuck NASCAR.
here is a peace offering interdoobie... hahah.
hope you get some pow soon. its sounds like the fever has you good.
Is that Jewel!?!
She finally got her craggle-tooth taken care of.. nice!
ha.. j/k. Jewel rocks and Gretchen can ride.. Congrats Lady- represent!
"Ride it, don't fight it.."
ok, that made me
chuckle, t.
Lindsey Jacobellis
Gretchen gets media play because she's a cute pipe jock, Lindsey is apparently just a "racer". Lindsey effing rips, and it's sad to see a girl as dope as her not getting the respect she's due. Gretchen is sick, but so is Torah, Elena, etc., meanwhile Lindsey DOMINATES her discipline. Isn't the ESPY supposed to go to someone like her or Shaun? That guy, love him or hate him, dominates on a level nobody else does, and that's why he should win repeatedly for this
Lindsey, you had my vote.
Is that all???
But see that is where you are wrong, partially. Yes she is cute but Gretchen isnt just a "pipe jock". She will hit big back country jumps and she will follow or lead you down any big mountain lines. I think that she used too race to but was winning way to much, haha. She is not a show boater and she is a recognized voice in women's snowboarding.
So like you said its all about who is truly dominating their discipline. Racing is only one peice of snowboarding. And as for looks, come on...
