SNOWBOARD Mag and Endeavor Snowboards team up to announce the "Always Endeavor" contest

Let's face it...snowboarding is damn fun but it's no easy task getting out to enjoy a day on the slopes. Whether its a busy work schedule, tons of homework, tough economic times or geographic challenges, we all have to go way out of our way to ride our favorite resort or back country spot.

To honor all those who conquer their personal challenges and endeavor to ride more, SNOWBOARD Mag and Endeavor Snowboards will give away a High Five 155cm board to the reader who writes the most compelling comment and explains why he/she works harder than anyone else to go snowboarding.

We want to hear about how far you have to drive to get to your hill, how many hours you worked at McDonald's to save money to buy your new board, how many back country hikes you had to take because you couldn't afford an expensive lift ticket. Click Add New Comment below, tell us your story and explain why you deserve to have this new deck.

The last day for the "Always Endeavor" contest has been extended to December 10th.

"Always Endeavor" contest

Hi SNOWBOARD MAG,

My name is Chue Chang, I am 25 years old and I was born, raised and live in Long Beach California.

At the present, I work 40 hrs a week, monday - friday full time at a construction company. I also go to school 3 nights a week at Long Beach State.

My closest resorts are MT HIGH, MT BALDY, SNOW SUMMIT and BIG BEAR. They are all about a 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive away, which is pretty far considering how much snowboarding I want to do. I want to snowboard at least 100 days a year, but I know that could never happen unless I live in a resort town. I also make trips to Mammoth once or twice a year when I have the chance.

In early fall, I try and find out which resort opens first and I go ride as early as I can in the season. I rode Mammoth twice already. The only times I can snowboard are friday nights and than sunday, at one of the above. If I am itching to ride, I will skip homework and go snowboarding on saturday too. I failed like 2 classes last semester because I went snowboarding so much and did not do homework. I have also called in sick to work 5+ times and almost gotten fired because I went snowboarding, especially if I knew it was going to be a pow day.

I know I work hard to go snowboarding. I think about it everyday. I watch/research snowboard videos, websites and magazines at least once a day for the past year and a half. I have gotten into fights and quarrels with my older sisters, brothers and parents because I would snowboard so much. They were complaining that I am supposed to help the family with my spare time and that I was not spending enough time at home.

They do not understand and I wish they could, because there is no other feeling in the world when going down that mountain full speed, at one with your snowboard and shredding that pow. There is no other feeling like it in the world and thats why I go snowboarding. To be at one with nature, my board and myself.

I also feel that I am less fortunate than most snowboarders my age because:

My parents could NEVER afford to drive me to those resorts, even if I started young. I did not get a car till I was 22 years old and did not get a chance to try snowboarding till I was 23 yrs old, which is pretty late compared to other people my age, who I know have many years of snowboarding behind them. Which is really helpful, especially if you want to be good. I feel that people who started early are more privileged because they got all those years behind them.

I am 1 of 10 kids in my family and grew up in the ghetto. My parents were refugees from the Vietnam war and know little english. My ethnicity is called "hmong" and barely any Hmong people go snowboarding. I LOVE snowboarding so much though, I actually wanted to start a non-profit organization, where I would introduce snowboarding to poor under privileged hmong kids who will never get the chance to experience snowboarding. I am planning to save up some of my money to help start my organization. The endeavor snowboard would make a nice contribution to a person less fortunate than I am. I am just lucky and fortunate enough to go snowboarding.

Thank you,
SNOWBOARD MAG

Chue Chang

I need your snowboard!!!!!

I go to school at the University of California Davis and it takes about two and a half hours to get the ski resorts in Tahoe which now costs soooo much money! I only have like 200 dollars right now and its very sad and im sad that my old board completely delaminated last season then it smashed into a rail on acciedent. And it would make me very happy to have this dope new ride. Peace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

worst reason ever.

I have a hard time getting to the mountain cuz your mother is too much of a nympho and wont let me leave her room. horrible

I broke my snowboard in half

I broke my snowboard in half my first time shredding the gnar last season. The only snowboard i could use was one my dad made out of a waterski. I could no longer hit rails but i could still hit the box we made. I only go on our hill in our trailer park. I work 2 jobs one at restaurant washing dishes and the other is changing an old geezers diapers. With this board I will be the most G in my whole trailer park. I also dont have the internet, I am at a public library. My Grandfather could not read,.

high five series board

Hi Guys,

I'm Santos, and just snowboarding for a few years now. I got my snowboard with a too expensive cell phone subscription. The cell phone is long gone, phone company doesn't exsist anymore but i still got my crappy board.
I live in The Netherlands, the flattest country in the world, me and my friends drive 8-10 hours to Austria or France for some fun and action every 3-4 weeks.
All our money goes into petrol and roadtaxes, so we can't afford new boards..
That's why i really need a new board.

High 5

I'd like to nominate my brother for a chance to win the Endeavor High 5. He is currently a college student in Washington state. Our father passed away suddenly a year ago and my mother has not been able to help him financially so he has had to work really hard to pay for school. He doesn't have the money for new shred gear and I know he would really appreciate this board. He teaches snowboarding and is constantly sharing the stoke with everyone he meets. Through the tough times our family has gone through he has always kept a positive outlook and love for snowboarding. I know that he would love this board and be forever thankful to Endeavor.

Thank you for considering my brother.

You think you got it bad??

I ride a hill that i had to walk one mile through my town to get to. Once i got there the snow was always tracked out by sledders that didnt stay on their side of the hill. The 55 foot vertical rise was just enough to build a nice three to four foot wedge that would only boost you about 15 feet...on a very very fast day. I hiked this hill for 6 years because the closest ski hill is three hours away. I rebuilt the jump everyday because of kids walking home from school think its cool to walk all over. I once put a few rails there. Three of my rails got stolen by hoodlums and my pride and joy 8 foot up 10 foot flat 8 foot down was ripped out of the ground by the parks department because an old lady next door thought that it was ugly. Snow oh yeah was non existant. Three years ago i took the entire snowbank from our local mall truck load by truck load for three days because it was the only snow until febuary 3rd. In total in those three days we broke 5 shovels, ripped 4 tarps, blew one dump truck cylinder, and smoked the 4x4 in our POS truck. Wisconsin winters rule come get some!!!

I need that SO SO SO SO bad... Hook it!

Man I live in Colorado so one would think that I have it pretty easy... Not so much the case with lift tickets being so damn expensive now a days and of course the cost of good equipment. Dude it's not easy as a poor college student living in Pueblo Co. I work at a hotel full time year round just so save enough cash to get a Colorado Pass to ride Summit County. $450 bucks is a lot to shell out for a kid that is paying his own tuition and supporting him self. But I do it because I live to ride.. Some people feel at peace at church or with family but me I am most at peace when I am blazing down my favorite run, making first tracks in the trees, or getting jiggy in the park.. I can't explain it, it just is! That for me is perfection. This season is not a good one for me classes are wicked hard, work is so busy, the economy is crap, and to top it all off my deck is trashed and I am in need of a new one bad... I was thinking maybe Christmas? But I don't think thats going to happen! I make the trek to Keystone twice a week all season long.. Round trip from my house is 6 hours.. That's nothing to me even if I have to ride ice sheets of man mad snow for just one run... Its well worth every minute of the drive. I live, eat, sleep, and effen love snowboarding I for sure would marry it and make sweet sweet love and little baby snowboard-Dane Hybrids... So please guys I need this deck! Hook a brother up!

MY ENDEAVOR

HI SNOWBOARD Mag and Endeavor Snowboards,

When i first read about this contest i thought it was some kind of scam to get you to subscribe to a bunch of useless offers, but when i followed the link and registered, i realized this might actually be real.

My name is Chad Campbell and i live in Reno, Nevada. I have a lot of local resorts such as Northstar, Alpine, Sugarbowl, and Diamond Peak. All of them are with in an hour or two from my house, which would be nice if i could drive. im 16 years old but my parents cant afford to put me on there insurance or to help me out with a car so i dont have my licence.

My dad has been out of work for about six months and can barely make his bills. my mom is a flight attendent and has to work insane hours just to survive. My parents have been divorced since i was 7 years old. my birthday is on Dec. 13th so ill be turning 17 in about two weeks. last year for my birthday i got a brand new board and bindings, which maxed my parents out, and i was so stoked to go riding. But i only went three times ladt year because i was riding in som backcountry at heavenly with my brother when i clipped a boulder and broke the nose of my snowboard...i was hauling ass and when i hit i flew head first into a tree. luckly i didnt hit my head but i did break my collar bone. so my board and my body was out of commision for the rest of the season. my doctor finally cleared me about a month ago for activity and so i joined my high schools ski and snowboard team. But due to the damage of my board i have to use my brothers old board which is a horibbly out dated and extremely heavy piece of shit.

i have been focusing on school this year and over summer because i need to get my gpa up so i can get the millinium scholarship to go to college, and havent been able to get a jobe to buy a new board or get a car. my brother just bought a house and has to work alot to pay his bills so he rarely gets to go snowboarding, which is sad cause he is a natural and its a waste of his talent. so to go snowboarding i have to save my lunch money to buy a lift ticket and i have to walk from my house to Boomtown with all my gear, which is about three or four miles, so i can catch a shuttle up to northstar. sometimes i hitch a ride with friends but it seems like everytime they are going i either have a big project due or i dont have any money for a lift ticket and gas.

One Of my dreams has always been to go to Mammoth but its 6 hours away and i would like to ride that mountain with a good board. If i won this contest i would be overjoyed and truely gratefull for such a thing to happen to me in these harsh times, and with my birthday so close it would be the best present of the year.

Sincerly,
Chad Campbell

I LOVE TO SNOWBOARD!!!

Endeaver and Snowboard-mag

Lets face it, snowboarding is not only fun but its the best thing on this dam planet. Snowboarding is the best way to just get away and enjoy mother nature and a good time with your friends. If i could i would snowboard for a living, only problem is im not pro and live in a pretty dam flat city.

My name is Thomas and i live in a town in Ontario Canada called London. Probably one of the flatest cities i know, it kind of sucks having to drive an hour north or south to get to the nearest mountain or shall i say hill or bump. Yah thats my local hill the Boler mountain also known as "boler bump". So basically im 18 years old, and came back for another semester of highschool before heading out to sunshine village next semester with my two best friends to ride, work and of course get a little partying done. I work at the local mall at a retail store and basically save all my money all year in order to get new gear. It also sucks having to load up the car with gas every time i get home from the hill with gas prices so god dam high right now. Right now im riding a sapient identity from two years ago and am really worried about taking this board out west. My board is a 153 and is basically for jibbing and my base is chopped up so bad. Ideally i would get a new board, something a little bigger for when i head out west so that im not flipping the whole way down the mountain with my nose diving into the pow. I have been saving up for the last couple of years in order to make this trip while saving up for gear at the same time. Now i have enough to make the trip yet i still have a tiny jibbing board thats a few years old. After i get back from out west im heading off to university, which i have also been saving up for, for quite some time as i have to pay for the whole thing myself. I think im broke now, i cant imagine how broke im going to be while im at school trying to afford new equipment. If you guys could hook me up, i would appreciate it so so much as it would save me such a hassel. To tell you the truth, snowboarding is my life, its everything i think about and i know this letter isn't properly written and gramatically correct and all, but i would just appreciate it so so much if you guys could hook me up. I love endeavor you guys are so sick and it would be an honour to be the winner of this new board, cause lets be realistic i would be the freshest kid on the hill. I know i may not have grown up in the ghetto with no money, or have a family to afford, or work full time or anything like that, im just a regular kid that loves to ride and needs a new stick real real bad. Please consider this and help me out.

Thomas

I've been an East Coast rider for the past six years. Last winter I decided I would try to live the dream and move out to Lake Tahoe. I got a job as a bartender and waiter in a tiny backwoods town in Vermont to save up money for the move. I had never worked in a restaurant before, and had to deal with weekend vacationers acting like dicks to me. That wasn't so bad, however then there was the stress of being a bartender alone with the nearest police officer forty five minutes away, and an unruly bi-polar drunk wanting to fight me because I told him to stop harassing one of the women at the bar. Upon getting him to the door he punched me in the face before I was able to lock him out. He then punched out the window trying to get back in and started kicking and spitting all over my car until he disappeared. Anyway, after several months of that, I loaded up my car (after having to dump well over $1500 dollars worth of brake and front axel work, plus new snow tires and chains to make sure it would run alright when I was out there) and set out on my 3000 mile journey to Lake Tahoe. Somewhere in Illinois, my brake light comes on. I figure it's probably just the fluid because after my mechanic replaced almost every component of my brakes, there couldn't be anything seriously wrong, right? Wrong. I was sort of right, it was low on brake fluid. I bought some, threw it in, and then I was off again. forty miles later light comes on, as I approach the upcoming exit, I press my brake pedal...nothing. So I'm on the freeway with my entire life packed in my car and no way to stop it. Luckily I read that the best thing to do is to put your car in neutral, turn off the engine, and oh yeah...pray. It worked and after getting towed in to a mechanics, they informed me that the brake lines had completely rusted through and it was a $1500 job to fix it. I need a break...

Hi,

I'm Jared and I need your help to reverse a drastic decision that I made. I grew up in Montana and spent every season on the slopes, mainly at Big Sky, Terry Peak and then when I could drive we spend most of the weekends in Colorado.

Then I recieved a scholarship to go to college in Phoenix Arizona, I couldn't say no to free money so down I went, and that is when my boarding days ended. I've given my entire setup to my little brother and now I've finally found time to go again this season. We are going to try and hit up Sunrise and Snowbowl as much as possible, but now I have no gear.

So I am in need of drastic help to get me back on the slopes. I've already purchased some new boots, so with this board my setup would almost be complete. Please help a friend out, I've been checking almost every day for snow at the resorts and theres not much time left.

Thanks!
Jared

High five

Dear end and snowboard mag,
This summer i busted balls and saved my money. I missed out on a lot of bar nights and cabin trips cuz i was working nights in a warehouse. I was living in Winnipeg, Manitoba (aka middle of the prairies) where snowboarding consists of one thing, riding park. My home resort (although its ridiculous to call it a resort) was Stony Mountain which has a whopping 50ft. of elevation, 2 tow ropes, a table, and a few rails. But despite this I love snowboarding. So after graduating high school and taking my first year of uni, I knew there was only one thing to do. Go West. So as I said I made all the money i could and did just that. Now I'm living just outside of Banff and trying to go as long as i can without getting a job (in order to optimize shred time). So now im scraping by living off soup and macaroni. But the important part is im shredding every possible moment. My only problem now is that I dont know how long my board is gunna hold out. My board has gone through 2 seasons of prairie riding and jibbing has takin its toll. So what the board would mean to me is saving about a months worth of rent and food. The board would mean shredding all of December, and maybe getting me part way through Jan without having to work. Well hopefully you can hook me up.

Thanks
Lucien

Sup guys

Well uh, im not sure where to really begin.
I live in Houston texas, roughly 10 or 11 hours away from the nearest resort. I know, im probably living in the wrong place for snowboarding, but i can't go anywhere else and im actually lucky enough to even be able to hit the slopes. My city is like some sweaty armpits that even the best deodarant cant stop, its hot as balls. I am not even out of highschool, and cant legally move out. My family makes enough money to live a decent life, but not enough to take me boardning when i want to. I am sometimes able to ride 15 days in a good season.I have a 07 Rome Machine with 07 cartels. My board is messed up bad. base is all scratched up from shitty riding conditions. My laminate is peeled off like all the way. Shit, wouldnt mind riding a narrow board instead of this thing. Messed up, but i still shred my ass off when i can.
The closest resort is called Ski Apache, the farthest south resort in the U.S. im pretty sure. Last year I had saved money for a few years by mowing my neighbor's lawns, and headed up to the resort. I thought it was pretty tight cause i skipped school for like a week and a half or so during winter. I just lied my ass off and told the school i had mono. I rode a Grey Hound bus to san antonio or Austin, one of those i cant really remember but along the way i got majorly screwed, haha i ran out of money, i totally spent more than i needed to on food a few days prior and blew all my cash. I got a job at a taco bender. I didnt get paid but they said they would hook me up with a ride to Alamagordo which is like an hour away from the mountain. I didnt have a place to stay but somehow my mom got me like 300 dollars, and i picked it up at some bank kinda thing. I got to Ruidoso, the town at the bottom of the mountain, i went to a walmart and bought one of the crappiest tents and a sleeping bag. I posted up at a state park and set up camp. Im glad atleast that the lift tickets arent damn expensive, i woulda been Fucked. I shredded for about 3 days while eating some turkey sandwhiches and some myoplex powerbars. After i ran again outta money my dad had to haul his ass all the 11 hours to pick me up because i had semester exams to get back to. Overall it was some hard shit to go through, but what the hell. Come on! i would do that shit a million more times to ride a couple days, cause that was fuckin sick. The next thing im doin i think is droppin out when im a junior or senior and movin to colorado kids!!!(although my parents dont know it)

What's up Snowboard Mag?

What's up Snowboard Mag? First off I would like to say thanks for giving all the struggling and hard working people a chance at getting a break during these harsh times. Also good luck to everyone in this contest, may the best story win! Lastly, onto my reason on why I deserve to have this new deck!

Oh wow how rude of me, 4 sentences in and I haven't introduced myself yet. I am Danny, a full time 21 year old student, with too many things to do and not enough free time. I began snowboarding last year and deeply fell in love, like that first bite into Mom's freshly baked pumpkin pie she made for Thanksgiving. That warm orange filling and crumbling crust with slightly burnt edges piled on with so much whip cream you can't even see your pie anymore mmmm. Snap out of it! Let us control ourselves, as mentioned before I am currently a full time student at a community college and currently unemployed because I just didn't have enough time to go to school, work, and dance. Let me add that you should check us out, we are pretty legit. Just look up Stepboys (yes it is correct, one word) on youtube and see our 2nd place finish at World of Dance. I stopped working a month before the beginning of the semester and before I quit I made some harsh sacrafices. First, I moved out of my apartment, my mom used to live there but moved to New Jersey because she couldn't find a job. So for a few months I was alone paying rent and finally moved into my friend's house with his mom and dad. It saved me half of what I was originally paying for my apartment. I also literally gave up my dream car, a 1990 Mazda Rx-7. Stashed it under a car cover and parked it on the side of the house and made carpooling and local transportation, such as the bus and light rail, my main means of traveling. I wake up every Monday through Thursday at 5:30 AM to get to my first class at 7:00 AM and return home at 5:00 PM everyday. Although I don't have class constantly throughout the entire 10 hours, the reason why I go that early is because that's the only time the local transportation is in service. When I'm not at school I'm spending my time with my dance crew and it's demanding. I have to train constantly to be able to keep up with the local and outside talents because once you lose your edge, you're not on top. Also the image and experiences I've had with the dance group is far greater than any job I've experienced, although I think being a prosnowboarder would be freakin awesome. On the weekends I spend all my hours either training, doing homework, and lately back to back shows. Since the season has started, I haven't found any free time to go out and shred some fresh powder. Our nearest location is about 2 hours away on a good day and I recently purchased a Freebord to attempt to suffice my need to shred. It's been doing alright, but falling hurts like a b#$@h!

Well that concludes my story. Hoped you enjoyed it and thank you!

-Danny

Just a girl tryin to get on top...

Alright, Alright, so ive lived in Utah all my life. didnt grow up boardin because the family could never afford it. four seasons back my bro told me i needed to ride, so i tried it. for the first season i boarded a rental board. i went three times that season, all black diamond runs and a little back country. my bro wanted to teach me well, so he skipped the beginning stuff. the next season i stuck with the rental. it wasnt until last season that i broke down and got real seriuos. i saved up money to get a board. i now have a Solo board. never heard of it, but i got it for 70 bucks. so, i ride it, and that baby has so much flex and float. with all the adjustments ive done at home to it, it is one sick ride. so, last season i hit up night skiing as often as i could. discount tickets ofcourse, im not rich enough to have that season pass. up in those beautiful mountains i broke my elbow, and kept boarding the half pipe and rails with it broke. i also got a concussion, i boarded til i started havin a seizure.. i wouldnt say that was the smartyedt thing. but you see the love i have for the snow. i decided, why work to make enough money to board a few times when i could just work up there. so now i work for Brighton, up in Big Cottonwood. I love the snow, i love the mountains, and i love my job. but nothing is worse then watching people ride and having to work. yeah i get a free season pass, but im working all the time! i do what i can. i take the switches from top to bottom shack as often as possible, for that short run down. or even strap on just to olie a few times an hour. i say nothing beats the person making the magic happen at the resort. if i wasnt working, no one would be riding. basically, lift operators are the most important part of the show, and if they had a snazzy new board to show off, they might become more likely to take ride breaks more often. brown nosing to the boss juist aint cuttin it for me anymore. and these holiday crowds are gettin the best of me!

I love to snowboard....

that pretty much sums it up... i probably don't need this board as much as others but i definately would use the crap out of it. i ollied a baby pine and hit another when i landed so the nose is starting to delam but nothing a little epoxy cant fix. its going to be my fourth season on this board and im more than happy cause i love it. anyways i just love to snowboard and have as much fun as i can doing it.

One of my friends and

One of my friends and co-worker recently purchased a new snowboard. Obviously he was really stoked on it and couldn't wait to get out and shred. A few days ago, he found out that he needed to have a serious heart operation. He told me that heart problems ran in his family and that he was told that he was extremely high risk for heart failure. He is going in for surgery, only a week after he found out, to have a defibrillator put in his chest. Obviously he won't be able to ride this season, so he is selling his new deck for an XBox 360 or something to chill out for the season. When I saw this, I immediately thought of my friend and that a new snowboard, although he wouldn't be able to ride it until next season, would cheer him up and motivate him to have a safe and speedy recovery.

How hard it is for me to get up to the mountain.

After snowboarding for 3 years, one day in Michigan I decided to hit a big jump. The thing is, I had never hit a jump that gloriously large. After “hitting” said jump I dropped 17 feet through the air, and broke my femur in half, inches away from paralysis. After getting surgery and enjoying the morphine drip I was told that in 6-8 weeks I would be good as new. The wait time wasn’t too big of deal since I broke my leg on the last day of the season.

After waiting for 6 weeks and regaining my strength through physical therapy, I was getting psyched with the idea of “shredding” once again, until I felt a painful, foreign sensation in my upper hip area. This pain made me instantly return to my doctor and make him aware that I couldn’t ride a bike anymore, or walk without a sharp pain. The doctor’s orders were to return to crutches for as long as it took to find a doctor willing to a re-correction surgery on someone with such a delicate break. Now for any of you snowboard doctors, you know that if blood stops flying to certain places, things tend to die, or decay quite quickly, unfortunately that’s what has happened to me, I was plagued by avascular necrosis, or AVN. My young mind[being only 11 at the time] didn’t think it would be too big of a deal, until the return to crutches ruled my life.

I returned back to my once invalid lifestyle. I was unable to do the one thing I loved more than eating, snowboarding. 3 years on crutches, 1 year on cane, 108 visits to physical therapy and eight major surgeries later, I am now able to snowboard once again.

The problem is, after what I’ve been through I have a hard time getting my parents to take me up, so all the money I make ends up going towards bus rides to big bear[I’ve since moved to California]. The 3 hour drive, and ridiculously priced lift tickets have killed it for me. I want nothing more than to snowboard everyday for the rest of my life, but I can’t accomplish that without a real snowboard. I can’t afford new gear, because my parents have made it clear they don’t want me to have anything to do with snowboarding after it “ruined my life”. I love snowboarding and the adrenaline I get after hitting a buttery box, and I want to feel that again; every day of the year if I could. It has now become the only active thing I’m capable of doing since running and bike riding, is still mostly out of the question.

I thank you for reading my story

-Jonathan Martin

Too much Teching

Its Kyle from Minnesota here. Ive been snowboarding about three years now, and its already my passion, I love it more than anything. I jumped into deeper than any of my friends and this season I am boardless. As a full time college student I have to budget my money to make sure it goes where I want and that just didnt happen this year like I had hoped. I bought a bit of tech gear this year, everything I need to offer my good friends deals on core shots, and torn edges, cracked bases. I just picked up an SKS base welder and an entire sheet of replacement base material because I really want to learn everything I can about every aspect of the sport I love. But with an unexpected breakdown of my automobile it looks like Ill be hitching it 30 miles to get a rental board on a glorified bunny hill. This is the year wear I want to improve my riding, I wanted to have cab 5's down by the end of the season as well as the elusive frontboard. I hope the high five can do it otherwise I might not have a season and be left to sit in my living room fixing all of my friends boards. But I really wanna get out and ride in CO with my college snowboard club as well as maybe a late season trip to Jacksonhole for Spring Break!!

The Love and the Life

Mornin' snowboard Mag & Endeavor Snowboards

My name's Matt Rose, and I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. I've been snowboarding since i was in grade 5, and now in second year University, the passion still burns just as deep.

Theres nothing quite more exhilarating than ripping down the hills spraying your friends, or just setting your dropin up just intime for that one clip, before security gives you the boot. I snowboard whether the season agrees. Here in ottawa it gets snowing around the end of november, so this year september 4th, we went to our local hockey arene (Walter Baker) and asked the guy with the zamboni to drop all the snow next to this prime hill outside the arena. So from the start we have been shredding gnar in and out, with help from the community which isn't toooo bad haha.

Right now unfortunately I have resorted to shred a blank 'land rover' snowboards deck, that i got from a buddy of mine. i think its a 147, STIFF as a solid plank of wood, and no where near twin hahaha. I was left in this predicament after i delammed my RIDE DH DFC edition 156. Like what are the chances. I worked my ass off at the Loeb Grocery store down the street to pay the $650 for this board a year and a half ago, and now when all my other friends start shredding, this happens! So now im left being the film bitch, and setup crew hahaha. I must say, I'm good at doing pizza and beer runs now, since i can't shred anymore lol.

And now i'm left in the situation where i really can't afford a new shred stick, im in debt upto my ears paying off my university tuition, and its left me in the dust. Sad world eh, you work alllll summer, just waiting for the some snow so you can throw down, and all the money you make pays for an education (for chumps, yeah, im a chump now haha), and when you get out to go shred, you deelam an almost new board, with nothing left to shred.

The hardships of living in barrhaven hahaha. So we usually drive out to this rock quarry since none of us and bare to pay lift passes. This quarry is mint though, we've nicknamed it the Barrhaven mountain lab, bringing in pipes, barrels, and making endless booters with power upto our nips to land in, something you just dont see in eastern ontario. Last year we setup some scaffolding in my backyard and like 4 spotlights, flooding the whole block behind my house, just to throw some gnar down. This year, its gonna be a little harder tpo convince the rents on the setup since we tookout a few of their trees!

But yeah, basically thats my story, What i've worked for, where its got me, and why i would really appreciate winning the High Five from Endeavor. Thanks a million guys, keep up the shred, gnar levels high, and keep the issues coming!

Endeavor

I have no sad story, I live in board meca of the Pacific northwest, Mt Baker, Snoquamie, Stevens, Whistler/Blackcomb, Cypress, Grouse, and Seymour are my local mountains all within 20 mins-3 Hours. So, if want to give this board to someone who will ride the shit out of it 40-50 times per seasons then I am your guy, I do not work hard to go snowboarding I work harder than anyone once I'm there.

Go Big or Go Home

I would like to nominate my cousin Mike! He's been through alot during his life having to deal with being the middle child while his parents deal with his older brothers drug addiction.
The only thing that makes him happy now-a-days is snowboarding. It's his pasion and with every chance he gets he attempts to go. Since his parents are spenging a lot of money constantly on rehabs and hospital fees for his older brother he doesnt get help financially from them.
He works three jobs in order to stay in school and whatever is left he uses to go snowboarding. One job he is a bus boy for a bar in our town, he works at a gym. and also he works as a cashier at our local market place. Our hill is 1 1/2 hours away and not owning a car since his brother sold it for drugs, makes it a little difficult to get to the hill. Our whole family snowboards, so he jumps on the bandwagon every chance he can when we go.
Right now he's ridng a board that hes had for awhlie now and hes in need for an upgrade, but with the economy being the why it is and snowboarding equiptment being as much as it is makes it difficult for him to buy new stuff.
I know you probably hear all of this from everyone who attempts to win the board, but i believe that he will get his confidence back and be able to what he loves to do in style as well as get a sense of belonging since his family hasnt really been giving him attention since his older brother was in highschool. With this board I can actually see him smile again and maybe see him at his happiest like I used to!

Dear Snowboard Mag,

My name is Tim Mass and I am 19 years old

All my life, I have been exposed to winters in Chicago, which isnt horrible, unless you're a snowboarder. Our sad excuse for mountains (which are actually located in Wisconsin) are covered with ice. The closest mountain to me is Raging Buffalo, about 35 minutes away. Its a small hill (1 run) with a tow rope. Its not a bad park though I guess. Way overpriced at about 45 to 50 dollars for a pass. Other than that there are a few "mountains" ranging from about an hour to 3 hours away. I used to be able to get to these mountains a lot each season, however I am now attending college and money is hard to come by.

Southern Illinois University is 6 hours south of Chicago, which puts it at about 7 hours away from the nearest mountain. So coming home for a weekend isnt really an option, especially with money issues. For the past year, at least, it has been getting worse.
Right now I have no job, I start a seasonal job back home in a week when I go home for winter break. Id like to make it a goal to go riding at least once a week, but its not gonna happen. Ill be lucky to go twice. With 2 drinking tickets that I need to pay, past due bills, and some outstanding rent due, all my money will be going to that. Luckily I have enough grants and loans to pay for school.
Ive been wanting a new board for years now, seeing as mine is from 2003 I think. The edges are shredded terribly and it has nowhere near the amount of flexibility that I want to cure my love for Jibbing.

With this winter coming fast, and only one month of being home to ride, Im going to be begging my friends for loans to get lift tickets, otherwise I will be stuck building ramps to session on at the hill down the street from my house.

Please get me a new board so I can save more money to get lift tickets next year instead of buying a whole new board!

-Tim Mass

Summer Days at the Stalls

I roll out of bed and put on some old shorts and a tank, slip on a crusty old pair of vans authentics and im on my way. The stench of the days past lingered from the previously worn outfit. A Short 15 minute drive down the I-215 and I arrive at Jimmy Flores Performance Horses.

This is how i would spend every day of summer monday through friday beginning at 7 AM. I was what you would call a "stableboy." It was hard work, 30-40 stalls a day homes! The ladies loved it... but i came to enjoy the gratitude every other week when i would realize my goal was narrowing. Saving all summer for snow is what its all about. I still have half the money. Spent it on My Jib stick and bindings... And some other stuff. This would be dope... Im not the poorest out there but i work hard for what i love. Leaving every saturday at 6 AM to the resort, spending the day in the park with friends and going home at 10PM is what its all about SON! And going every day after school (senior) till night and finding time to do everything else... But I have a one track mind and Snowboarding is pretty much all there is...

Endeavor Contest

I'm a 24 year old college student from S.E. Tennessee. There is no real snow within 3 hours of me. I go to school 18 hours each semester and work 30+ hours a week delivering food in my own truck and get no gas money for it. I love to board but never have the money to during the winter b/c of paying for rent and getting ready to pay tuition for the spring semester. So in order to be able to get on the mountain I give plasma two days each week to pay for the trip. I can only give on Wednesday's and Friday's b/c of my work schedule and can only board on Fridays so i give plasma in the morning and then drive the 3 hours 45minutes to Cataloochee NC board all day and drive back that night. Several times I have passed out on the mountain from being light headed from giving plasma including once trying to jib a rail to impress a girl. I have no board so I have to rent whatever piece of crap they have on the mountain. I've been trying to save for 3 years to get one and have always had something come up and had to use the money. I NEED THIS BOARD BAD!!!!

I live in scotland, no need to say anymore. When i go boarding in this country if there is any snow it is 2 hours drive to aviemore or lecht and more to ben nevis, after being to whistler banff and europe few times seems like there is no point going boarding in scotland anymore.2 short 2 rocky and 2 shitty. anyways to get to the point i bought a travis rice libtech magnetrac great board wavy edges looks the dogs!! anyways it broke and split when on holls in bulgaria, lol i no bulgaria, was a lovely non pisted extrvaganza of rock and mud most enjoyable until i split the libtech when i hit a giant bolder unmarked hiding under the snow, split like a banana and had to buy another which is frank montoya nitro is good board but 2 small as was only 1 i could get anyways its nackered after being used in scotland and flung over a few rails in the snowdome. If win this board would keep it for going abroad so i dont look like i ride a daewoo matiz wheneva on fancy slopes in other counties. peace 1 love 2 all. (snow!!) need some scotland sucks.

SNOWBOARDING IS FREEDOM AND MY LIFE

So i will start with explain my situacion. I live in small city near Ostrava in Czech republic(Center Europe:) ).I dont know why ,but last 3 seazons were really sucked, no snow!really, there always was a lot of snow in winter and I can ride near my home and everything was so fine.I am not a ritch man so I always was working as shaper in local snowpark and i get free lift ticket so i can ride every day.No because we fu*ked our enviroment there is no snow for whole winter. If i want to ride i have to travel around 10 hours to get to alps and it cost a really lot of money.I have to work whole summer to earn some money for spend more days on snow in winter.Last 2 seasons I was around 10 days on snow in mountains . My friends and I have only one choice. We have to jib everything on anything and you should know how it demaged your deck . Now i have only something that looks like ironing board more than snowboard bud my only thorought is snowboard more and more. So every day I look at sky and hope that nature will go good and will get me the best present ( arount 10 m of snow :).
I know that you are not possible to get nature good, but you can get me chance to spend more time on snow by your board .

cheers and please pray for some snow, its december and still no snow :(

dedication

lets go shredding!!
dang i try to board as much as i can i got a season pass to a cascade mtn that is almost 2 hours from my house. so if i wanna ride its a 4 hour drive. and i do it at least twice a week and sometimes more. the longest trip was to mt bohemia. we planned the trip me and 5 of my friends we left on a sunday drove 8 hours to the U P, stayed the night in a hotel woke up and drove to the mountain. we rode all day and then at the end of the day drove 8 hours back home. 10 monsters later we were back i tell you it was the best 2 days of my life!! nothing better than goin riding with 5 buddys to a extreme backcountry snowboarding trip beside we were tired as hell. since i got into snowboarding 3 years ago i have not stopped thinking about it every second of the day. i am so happy my friends got me into this extreme sport i would not trade anything for one run down any mountain. snowboarding is in my blood to stay!! i cant explain the feelings i get when i ride it is like nothing else matters and all i wanna hear are other boaders carving threw the snow. i just wish i could ride everyday. but lets face it we all have to live. we have house payments and the gas just to get there. sometimes i wonder where i get the money to ride. hmmm maybe its the money i was to pay my electric bill. you dont need lights when you are shredding right. thats all that matters to me in the winter i have all summer to catch up on bills!! well see you all on the slopes and keep shredding! thanks Ju$tiN

free board

easy reasons
1. Im homless
2. im carless
3. i sold stuff i got for free to get enough money to get a snowboard(plus the money i got for begging on the street)
4. my "local" Mt. is about 3-4 hours away
5. I have never driven to the Mt. i always get rides
6. i go every other weekend!!!
7. im on the computer now at a hotel in san diego posing as a guest

i actually just got a job, at a hair salon
just so i can get money to buy a pass hahaha

my mom wont let me buy a board

hi my name is thomas and for me i am a high school dropout with a dead end full time job... for the the closet place that is worth going to is 3 hours away in the twin cites minnesota area... the board that i have was givin to me by my boss at work when he got his K2 board... we were planning on going near christmas but since its hard to get time off near then we have to postpone our trip until after i get my GED and he is done with school for the semester

also i go out in our town where there are no real boxes or anything and just go down a hill carve a little and run back up and repeat... not much fun with this board it would make things easier to do that and would look a ton better then what i have already

What's up Snowboard Magazine so you want to hear a sob story about how I help other people get on the slopes but I dont have enough time to enjoy my own time on the slopes.

Hi my name is Curtis and I work at a local Ski Area as a lift operator six days a week I wake up make a lunch, buy gas and drinks then I drive 45 minutes on snow and ice covered roads to our local ski Area where I clock in, go to the lifts, and start cleaning the off the chairs and go through a safety check list, after the lift deemed safe I can start sending up patrollers and more operators, And thats if you are lucky. Sometimes I am stuck out in the cold paking cars, or shoveling off the sidewalks and watching every one else hit the fresh powder while I am working just to get ski privlages for one day out of the week and thats my day off. So help me out Snowboard Magazine send me that new board and I will be a happy lift operator forever:)

hmm.where to begin.27 years old, recently married to a stay at home mom who is raising our 18 month old hellion.I work in retail auto sales about 65-70 hours a week in So Ca.If you've been in a cave for the last year you won't know how incredibly hard it is to make a buck in this industry, let alone raise a family and shred as much as possible.but by the looks of things we are'nt going to have a season this year in Bro Cal becuase it's 12/5/08 and 85 degrees still. If you decide to give me this board, don't.Make it a LIB 156 banana. Thanks

real life

well i realized i wanted to snowboard all the time so i figured out how i could do that without having to be travis rice. couldnt afford to buy a pass at a mtn so started teaching lessons, then went to school for rec management, then learned about snowboard team coaching. coaching snowboard teams on weekends so i can ride during the week and get new kids hyped on what the rest of us our doing. no sob story, just a fella making a way for himself to be able to ride 5+ days a week for free and inspire youngins.

hey there,

i supervise a snowboard school, and therefore make my living off of the industry and stoking people out on learning to ride...in my spare time i specialize in breaking boards in the park and on other foreign objects...if for no other reason, i would say that i've never ridden a board from this company and i could get some user feedback and word of mouth advertising for them based on my recommendations...rock on.

Always Endeavor

Everyday of the summer, I patiently await for winter to come. Everyday to work, I think to myself, I am one day closer to winter. Snowboarding is what drives me to get up and go to work everyday at 5 am, 5 to 6 days a week. I pedal my bike 2 miles to the bus stop to save gas, get on the bus, get drop off and pedal another mile to work in the cold summer morning. It gets up to 98 degrees F by mid afternoon, and I’m working outside at minimum wage. Why quit early? To hot isn’t a good reason but working for more money to go snowboarding is! I work all summer for a seasons pass, bus money, new board and binding this coming season. On the first day of the previous season, on a brand new board, I came up short on a rail and took out a chunk of the sidewall. Ever since then I’ve been riding with that missing chunk of sidewall. I go home from work everyday, tired, have a few hours to play, pack some lunch and go to bed by 8:30. The next day, it’s the same. I see my friends having a great time everyday, playing in the water, just being free from school. Meanwhile I’m standing outside pruning, moving ladders and pulling root suckers for my dad’s orchard in the 80 degrees weather. Its not that I’m having fun, but it’s about getting where I want to be. I hated going to work every day, but you gotta do what you gotta do. This year, the snow didn’t come early as last year so I am sitting here wishing I was up the mountain shredding away like the rest!

Thank you,
Caden

Here's My Story..

Hi, my name is Josh and I am trying to win this Endeavor High Five Series snowboard for my little sister. I live in Illinois and I live about 20 minutes from my nearest hill.. Which is only 450 feet high! It is really a hill. As of right now, I ride the Burton Uninc, but my little sister really wants to start snowboarding, and she can't afford to buy herself a setup. I worked hard cutting grass all summer in order to pay for my setup, and I am still paying my mom back what I owe her for the difference. When I can't afford to go snowboarding at a resort my friends and I just build kickers and rails in our yard. As for my little sister, she is just riding one of those Wal-Mart decks. If I win this snowboard for her she can rock it with my old bindings which would really make her happy.

Thanks Snowboard Mag and Endeavor!
Josh

I would rather be snowboarding

Now, im not gonna sit here and type you guys some story about my mom dying or anything, i'm just gonna tell you the truth. Basically, I really LIVE from late november to mid-march, every year. And all that time inbetween is spent, believe it or not, checking websites or old magazines for the first signs of snow. I went on a cruise this year and even though it was great, i would rather be snowboarding, so at night i laid in bed and watched draw the line, and thanks in advance about eight times a piece. The only way i can afford to pay for any new gear (very rare for me to purchase it) lift tickets, and transport to the actual mountain, is for me to work endless hours at the local ice cream stand making a whopping *gasp* $6.75 an hour. Now i know that isnt too bad, but because im traveling to canada, which is really my first snowboarding trip in my 8-year carrer more than 200 miles away, its costing $479.00 , and im actually gettin a very good deal. So all im asking is to just have the chance to win this board, and my fingers are becoming very tired of re-entering my email adress for free giveaways on numerous sites that i have never won, and including my personal information, in the hopes of winning a new board, that hopefully wont break or become broken beyond repair, because if that happens, all my money will have been spent in travel and lift tickets, so it would be grueling wait until the summer returns for me to work even more hours to be able to fix, or buy a new board. In other words my life will be over.

I don't have much of a

I don't have much of a story...rode a few times last year when i started, and this year i dropped $350 for the night pass, and I try to get out when I can. Problem is that while gas is semi cheap at the moment, I can't get out there enough because driving for two hours a day is freaking tiring.

Me and my wife just had a

Me and my wife just had a baby so we're kinda broke at the moment...we both work over 40 hours a week and then when we're not working we're busy being "adults." Don't get me wrong, I love our daughter and wouldn't trade having her for anything in the world...I would just like to have a new board to ride this year.

Hello

My name is David and I live in Austria. To go to a mountain I have to get up at 5 o clock in the morning. Then I have to drive about 3-4 hours to get to a mountain. I like snowboarding a lot so for my new snowboard I had to work half of my whole summer hollidays. I worked in a factory and I had to carry 30 pounds of stones every day. Sometimes, if I cannot afford any liftticket I hike the mountain.

These are the moments I feel alive :)

best wishes

Dave

Yo

Endeavor and Snowboard-mag,

My name's J, 17 years old. I live all the way in London so I don't get as much mountain time as everyone else. I have to balance going to school, taking care of my brother and making a 3 hr one way trip to my closest indoor snowslope. One of those trips to get to some crappy, icey, 150m slope costs me about £70 which in USD is aout $100 + I think... When you consider that one night I can go snowboard on some weak ass features for only about 2 hours cost me that much, it ain't cool. My parents are divorced as well with my dad apparently not caring what really happens to us. Haven't spoken to him for a good couple years now. What that means is that I take care of my bro now. Mum's out working trying to scrape enough money for us to eat and live as comfortably as possible. All the money I manage to earn from work whilst my bros at school or at a friend's house I save to get away from here and go to a real mountain where the slopes last for over 20 seconds and I can forget about everything but snowboarding, one of the only pure things that put a smile on my face that won't come off for hours. You hear about these people complaining about too much ice, season not coming, resorts being too far away but in reality they got it good you know... They gotta drive like 3-4 hours sure but once they get there at least they got some huge mountain which won't rape their cash for 2 hours of ice and wood with these poor features that jsut aren't exciting or fun anymore.
After school I'm going to try to scrape enough money together to go to uni and move out to the states and live in a resort or something cus it's where I'm the happiest.

Anyways, take it easy and I'm sure whoever you give the board too will be stoked! It's a sick board and you guys are doing a nice thing...
Laters,
J

"Always Endeavor" contest

Hey SNOWBOARD Mag and Endeavor,
My name is Logan Doyle and I am 19 years old. I am a full time student at the University at Albany. Because I am a college student I have little to no money to get to the mountains with the price of lift tickets, gas, equipment, and the economy going down hill it is tough. I am a twin so me and my brother have to share a car and because we go to different schools it was only fair that we would have to leave it home because we can not afford to get another one. My parents are divorced and my mom raised us basically by herself. She got me involved in skiing when I was four but when I was nine I switched to snowboarding. My mom is the only one helping to pay for both colleges. Since I am a twin she is not only paying for mine but my brothers too. I worked all summer as a lifeguard to get enough money to spend during the school year on anything that was left over from helping pay for tuition. The main thing I am spending my money on for the last couple of years have been snowboarding.
I have given much time and effort to e able to get to the mountain. Whenever I can go it is one of, if even the best part of my winter. I have been out on the mountain in negative 15-degree wind chill and freezing because it was one of the only days that I could go for last season. On my old board the bottom is chunked out from spring snowboarding on the crappy east coast slush. The new board will be an awesome gift so I can just focus on getting to the mountain. I love going to the terrain park and going off jumps and rails also bombing down hills as fast as I can. My old board is a beginner one with almost no flex and the edges catch on random parts of the mountain. To improve to be able to hit bigger jumps and larger rails I need a board capable of a little give.
Even when I do get to the mountain it is never during the school year only on breaks and holidays. I have to drive up from my house on Long Island. It takes from 3 to 6 hours to get to a mountain, mainly 5 hours to get to a decent mountain with snow and better trails. These trips kill my energy so I have to pay for a hotel so I don’t have to drive back another 5 to 6 hours and worry about falling asleep or worse crashing my car.
I do not have a car up at school so it is very hard to get snowboard trips organized. To accomplish getting to the mountain to snowboard I went to my Student Association to go through all the paper work to set a club up. I had to re set up the old club at our school called the Ski and Snowboard Club. Since my school is stingy about giving money away to clubs for funding I have had to jump through many hoops and do all this mindless stuff just to get to powder. Some of the things that a president has to do is write out a constitution and get it approved by the Student Association president, show that there was a good interest in the club, have meetings with senators to see what my groups progress was, go to a class to learn how to run a club properly and take a treasurers exam so if and when I get funding I could manage the money of the club. There have been many meetings that I have set up, where I had to make flyers to promote and advertise, organize a website to show the number of people interested, and make a face book group as well as organizing emails to set up dates of trips.
Since the bus rides are expensive to bring many people that would be in a group up to the mountain I looked in to any funding I can possibly get. I got the paperwork and set up a new and unfunded group money application to get money towards buses. I called every bus and Coach Company to look for the cheapest rates so I could spend as little as possible. Since this year I am making trips to get to the mountain I spent my money on the season pass deal to Stratton, Okemo, Sunapee Mountain. For this reason I need a new board that is better so I can keep progressing. If I do win, I will donate my old board to the club so some one else can use it, save money and enjoy snowboarding like I do. Thank you.

Dec 10th, 7:32pm Pacific Time, Location, Whistler BC... Hi my name is Jonathan, I'm 21 years old, used to live in Montreal Quebec but recently changed my way of living. Me and my girlfriend decided it was time for us to realize our dreams; snowboarders since we can remember it, that's what we do and it's more and more a reason for us to go forward in life. I drove more than 5000km, going through the States, than Banff Alberta and then here to get established. Whistler's the best at our eyes, caus' some may say it's not... but it's our heaven and we wish we can stay as long as we can overhere so we fuly live our dream. On september 24th we left Montreal, took a week sometime sleeping in awful places, finally got where we wanted and sat down to enjoy the views ;). We're more than happy, life is GOOD. We both work our a'' off to get enough money to stay here but it's totally worth it... as I said we're i heaven! So eveything's worth it... A new snowboaqrd wouldn't be too much, I need that to go and shred out these slopes...

Maybe someone else's going towin this, but hey, it's worth a try! C'ya!
