Beijing, CHINA (November 20, 2008) - Quiksilver, the world’s leading boardsports fashion apparel brand and long-time supporter and promoter of snowboarding in China, today announced it will sponsor the world-famous Nanshan Park in Beijing, China. Teaming up with the country’s top park construction firm Mellow Constructions China, Quiksilver proudly unveils China’s finest freestyle playground, the Quiksilver Nanshan Mellow Park, scheduled to open December 2008.

Over the past few years, snowboarding has grown from a relatively unheard of sport in China into a winter sensation. This would not have been possible without Quiksilver’s ongoing support at all levels, from sponsoring the Quiksilver Snow Team and popular events such as the Quiksilver Nightrail Session, to now providing China’s finest snowboard park.

“Quiksilver sponsors and supports professional athletes around the world, as well as international events such as the Quiksilver Natural Selection snowboard competition,” Cathey Curtis, GM of Quiksilver and Roxy in greater China comments. “Coming from the ‘mountain and wave’ lifestyle, Quiksilver defines itself on the slopes just as it does on the streets. Quiksilver has been developing the boardriding heritage in China since 2004 with Danny Way’s Great Wall jump, and the Quiksilver Nanshan Mellow Park is the next step in creating a Chinese boardriding culture born on the slopes and bred through our commitment.”

Located in Nanshan, Beijing’s most popular ski resort, the Quiksilver Nanshan Mellow Park is a sign of commitment many in the local scene have long been waiting for. Mellow Constructions China CEO Steve Zdarsky says, ‘We couldn’t have wished for a better sponsor for this park. Quiksilver has been building the Chinese snowboard scene with us right from the start, and it really feels like a dream match-up to have them now providing China’s best terrain park. Snowboarding in China is just starting to blow up, and to have Quiksilver working with us is just what the sport needs right now if it ever hopes to catch up to the northern American and European levels.’

It’s obviously no coincidence that this park serves as the season-long home to the local Quiksilver and Roxy snowboard teams. Quiksilver teamrider and daily park presence Xfox says, ‘I’ve seen plans for the new park, and can’t wait to ride it. I’m stoked that snowboarding in my country is finally starting to get the recognition it deserves!’

It may also come as no surprise that Quiksilver team veteran and park building maestro Marco Huang is in charge of the park’s design. Marco has experience building parks since he started snowboarding, and has been trained by Austrian park building wizard Tommy ‘Mellow’ Marsh. ‘It’s the perfect arrangement for me – I get to support my sponsor on the slope in two ways now, both by building a sick park for them and then riding all day in it.’

A new addition this year to the park is the ‘Roxy Easy Line’. ‘I love learning fun new tricks on the smaller obstacles before taking them to the larger ones,’ top Roxy rider Yindi comments, ‘and the Roxy Easy Line is the perfect addition to the park. It will offer safer, beginner-friendly kickers and rails that everyone will be able to have a blast on!”

The new park sees the return of some of the local rider’s favorite features such as the 6mx10m over-sized butterbox and the famous double kicker line, but also some exciting new never-before-seen-in-China additions that will be unveiled this winter! In January 2009 the park will also play home to a huge crew of international pro snowboarders and Quiksilver riders for China’s largest snowboard competition, the 7th Red Bull Nanshan Open (a TTR 4-star event).

Bringing fun and innovative parks to Chinese snowboarders since 2000, the ‘Mellow Parks’ crew guarantees you will never get bored this winter! Just you wait…
