The Block heads Midwest- to open third THE BLOCK hotel

THE BLOCK Hotels and Snowpark Technologies have entered into an agreement to design and review several concepts in order to create a first class terrain park at Granite Peak Resort in Wausau, WI (www.skigranitepeak.com). The goal is to create the Number #1 terrain park in the Midwest. The park would be accessible to the markets of Chicago, Minneapolis, Madison and Milwaukee - all within 4 hours drive.

Liko S. Smith co-founder and Managing Partner of THE BLOCK Hotels and Chris “Gunny” Gunnarson founder and President of Snowpark Technologies will visit Granite Peak Resort from June 12-15 along with members of their respective teams in order to analyze the area that will be used for the terrain park and to meet with upper management at Granite Peak Resort.

“This is much more than an exploratory trip” says Liko S. Smith,..”we plan on coming up with solid designs, drawings and conceptuals that will enable us to pin down construction costs and begin building soon if they decided to open this winter,..regardless, it's going to be a lot of work” he mentions. “I’ve spoken to Charles Skinner (owner of Granite Peak) on several occasions on why we’re the team to design a park for his resort and about our vision for the snowboarder experience on the mountain,….he’s been very supportive on this project from the start. BJ, Erik,Chad Otterstrom and more great pro snowboarders have come up from the Midwest, I think it’s a market that definitely deserves our attention and Marc and I are really looking forward to testing the market here; he and I have been talking about this for nearly a year” he states. “If THE BLOCK is ever going to be successful in the Midwest; this is the first step.....I'm looking forward to working with Gunny on setting a new standard in the area" he says.

Can we say VANS PARKS!!

has anyone ever been to Wausau WI??? not a whole lot going on at that joint.

this might be where the Black "jumps the shark"

time will tell and i hope this works. but this ain't Big Bear or Tahoe. this is the Mid-West.

I find it really hard to believe that kids will spend money driving to wausau when they can drive or fly to Colorado or other Rocky Mtn resort towns for not much more.

I agree to that. When I wann

I agree to that. When I wanna ride something that doesn't suck I head out west. The midwest sucks and it doesn't matter what you do to improve it. It just flat out sucks.

What a joke

That's my local resort. The place is a dump. The top is steep, the bottom is flat. The owner is a real prick. He's a skier and a laywer and he doesn't like snowboarders. I don't know what anyone was thinking when they picked this place to open a Block at. It doesn't matter who you send in to build their park, they will screw it up. They went to Hood Cutter's Camp last summer and if you saw the park they had this year, you would have thought children with shovels and buckets built it. Their rails are a joke, usually broken and not maintained. The jumps are never built properly. The take-offs are uneven nor maintained and the landings are never maintained. The "halfpipe" was about half of a halfpipe this year. Maybe 100' long and the walls were a joke. If you dropped in the pipe, you literally dropped in because the walls bulged out about 5 feet from where the bottom was cut cuz it was never groomed after it was built. This place is a joke. If they would have talked to ANYONE who rides there on a normal basis they would have laughed when they said they wanted to open a Block there. Us locals know that it doesn't matter cuz it will turn out to be a shitty park. They don't even use their Park Bully to build their park.

Snowboarders who ride park around here go to Tyrol, Cascade or Spirit. Nobody goes to Granite and it's because the insane lift rates and the poor park. They couldn't build a park if the groomers were programmed to build it themselves. Hell, my friend has a better park in his yard then they do at their hill. Marco, Liko, don't build a Block here. The only people who go there are snobby skiers from Chicago.

I hope someone at the Block reads this or someone from the magazine reads this and posts the truth about Granite Peak. The place is a joke, the employes are a joke, the owner is a joke. The lady who runs the place doesn't ski or snowboard. They charge $46 for a daytime pass. There are actually only 25 runs from top to bottom.

If anyone wants to know more, just ask me. I know all about the place inside and out.

I thought the news sounded pretty good

until all these homies started talking about how bad the place sucked. all i know is that it can't be that bad when i rode there a few years back it was a pretty dope little hill. plus with the help from these dudes this park could be the next tyrol, cascade, or even possibly better. all i am saying is don't knock the shit before its even been done. it could end up being the sickest place in the midwest, which sounds pretty cool to me.

Watch of an increase in lift

Watch of an increase in lift rates! I'm sure they'll be up to the $60 price point before you know it.

Midwest Side!!!!!!

Grow up guys, and learn how to have fun on what you have around you. It doesnt matter if thier park sucks, or thier rails are broken, or thier are 2, 20 or 500 runs, or the pipe is 5ft tall. Go out and have fun, jib a log, jump a cliff, build a jump, slide a street rail, make your own shit. If I recall, granite peak has one of the craziest street rails ever- yeah, an "S" street rail that is not part of the hill, right next to the lodge. What about all the tree runs? Yeah, the people that work thier suck, but then dont buy lift tickets. Poach a ride. Learn to love what you have. I am all for the Block, because its just going to drive those snobby skiers out and scare them all away. Give it 2 weeks after the Block opens, and all you lil bitches will be back.

What tree runs? The two "gla

What tree runs? The two "glades" they have? I've been on almost every inch of that place and you get about 100' vertical of trees till you have to get back on the groomers or you're walking out.

I don't pay for lift tickets at Granite and it still sucks. You'd have to pay me to like that place. Oh, and I doubt this will drive out the skiers. They will still come. You ever been there on any holiday? Skiers everywhere. You can't drive out the snobby skiers cuz the biggest snob of them all owns the place.

way to them!!

lil bitches
