The Icer Air 2005 brought shredding to the streets of San Francisco on Thursday, Sept. 29th with riders like JJ. Thomas, Travis Parker and Brent Meyer hucking for the cash and a two-year lease to a new Jeep Cherokee! Thousands flooded the intersection of Fillmore and Vallejo as skiers and snowboarders gapped the road over a pile of slush and Styrofoam. JJ Thomas was most impressive, gathering enough speed down the sketchy run in to pull a backside rodeo seven on his final jump for the win.
Airblaster’s Travis Parker threw down the classic laid out backflips to woo the audience. If you look closely you can see R2D2 watching from the second story window.
This was the view from the top.
Tons of spectators piled into the streets, watched from rooftops and generally gave the local police a huge headache trying to deal with the mayhem. The sun was blazing and it felt like summer, but all the shred action had everyone thinking about winter already. Bay area skier Johnny Mosely put together the contest that was originally scheduled for late August but was postponed to make sure everything was cool with the city. The unprecedented event went down flawlessly, proving that even snowboarding in downtown San Francisco is possible.
Dingo was on the mic, shouting out
SNOWBOARD and hyping up the crowd with his patented Aussie accent.
The
www.somagirls.tv were there fliming web cast spots.
One of them seemed to like our own J2, who was on hand with super agent Ninja Jay to judge the contest.
I came down here full last minute panic style and ended up meeting some really cool locals who let me crash at their pad for the weekend. A sick three bedroom entire floor flat blocks away from the event, my man Tony D. has classic Twist memorabilia scattered about the house.
These guys had good style.
Brent Meyer had trouble getting speed a few times but still had fans cheering.
Chris Rotax tossed up a couple nice ones too.
Event judge J2 voted
SNOWBOARD number one!
While Ninja was a hard judge to impress.
Tahoe local Shane Reide drifted off course and almost took out a volunteer who was a little too close!
In the end, JJ Thomas killed it with a BS seven and BS Seven Rodeo, and Travis Parker's backflip was good for second. Thanks to all the sponsors for putting on a great event. Check out www.icerair.com for more info.
After he won, JJ Thomas took some time to autograph his Issue #2.1 Community Project story for a lucky fan!
